Don't meet me in your next life.

Chapter 23 She Wants to Let Go

After eating the porridge, Xiang Yiyi's complexion improved a lot, and she didn't look as haggard as before.

"Lin Lubai, Lu Sichen, you should both go back first. Xiao Qing is here to keep me company." Xiang Yi thought they were busy, so she didn't ask them to stay.

Lin Lubai was about to speak when he heard "Yi Yi".

"Lin Lubai, let's talk about our matter later, let me calm down," Xiang Yiyi said first.

"Okay." Lin Lubai nodded.

"Yi Yi, I'm leaving now. Remember to eat and take good care of yourself," Lu Sichen said.

"Yes. I'm fine, don't worry." Xiang Yi didn't say anything more.

Lin Lubai took a stool and sat down next to him.

"Lin Lubai, you should go ahead and get busy too. I'm so confused right now. Let me calm down, and then we can talk," Xiang Yi said, urging him to leave.

Seeing Xiang Yiyi like this, Lin Lubai didn't want to upset her, so he could only walk out the door first.

Lu Sichen was waiting for him at the door.

“Brother, let’s talk,” Lu Sichen said to Lin Lubai.

"Okay." Lin Lubai followed Lu Sichen to the underground parking garage, and Lu Sichen gestured for him to get in the car.

Lu Sichen drove the car directly to a riverbank, and the two got out.

Lu Sichen didn't speak, and neither did Lin Lubai.

Compared to Lu Sichen's composure, Lin Lubai's hands gripping the railing were slightly sweaty.

"Brother, do you love Xiang Yiyi?" After about a minute, Lu Sichen finally spoke.

"What do you mean? She's your sister-in-law," Lin Lubai asked.

“Yes, she is my sister-in-law now, but she was my girlfriend before,” Lu Sichen said earnestly.

"I'll say it again, we're already married. I don't care what your relationship was before, she's your sister-in-law now." Lin Lubai said angrily.

"She's pregnant, you know that, right? If it's my child, what would you do?" Lu Sichen probed him.

Lin Lubai clenched his fist and punched him.

"What else do you want? Even if it really is your child, it's mine now." Lin Lubai was very angry.

"Are you with her to get revenge on me?" Lu Sichen asked fearlessly.

"So what if it is, so what if it isn't?" Lin Lubai retorted.

“I don’t know why you’re with her. If you’re really after revenge, then come at me. She’s innocent,” Lu Sichen said through gritted teeth.

"Heh, you think I'd lay a hand on you? You're not worthy." Lu Sichen sneered.

"call--."

Lu Sichen took a deep breath.

“The child isn’t mine. Our plan was to save my first time for marriage, but I cheated on him,” Lu Sichen said.

"Say it again? The child isn't yours?" Lin Lubai's lips curled into a smile.

“The child isn’t mine. We just announced our relationship, but I’ve never touched her.” Lu Sichen felt as if another knife was stabbing straight into his heart.

"Then what do you want from me?" Lin Lubai didn't doubt Lu Sichen's words, after all, he knew about what happened that night. However, he still had a question that he would have to ask the family doctor later.

“You should be able to tell that I still love her,” Lu Sichen said slowly.

"Aren't you afraid I'll beat you up again?" Lin Lubai glared at him.

“I’m not afraid. If you love her, I’m willing to step aside. If you don’t love her, I will do everything in my power to protect her,” Lu Sichen said earnestly.

“Even if she doesn’t love me, I won’t let her go and give you a chance,” Lin Lubai said firmly.

"I'm relieved to hear you say that. Love her well. I won't fight you for her. I promise I'll only protect her silently from behind." Lu Sichen said, suppressing his heartache.

"Get out. She doesn't need your protection. She has me. And next time, call me 'sister-in-law.' I don't want to hear you call Yi Yi again," Lin Lubai said with a gloomy face.

“She’s gone. There’s more. Impossible. I knew her first, and I fell in love with her first. No matter who she is, she’s my Yi Yi.” Lu Sichen smiled and walked away.

"You'd better watch out or I'll teach you a lesson." Lin Lubai wished he could go over and punch him.

However, Lu Sichen ignored him completely, quickly got into the car, and drove off, leaving him behind to wait for the driver.

Lu Sichen's eyes were blurred with tears, and he longed to stop and cry his heart out.

But he dared not stop the car, afraid that his brother would see the tears in his eyes. Even with his own brother, offering blessings was harder than climbing to heaven.

Watching Lu Sichen's departing figure, Lin Lubai couldn't help but laugh. Heaven knows how afraid he was that the child was Lu Sichen's, how afraid he was that Lu Sichen would say he wanted to start over with Xiang Yiyi and make him back off.

Lin Lubai made up his mind that no matter what Xiang Yiyi thought, whether she loved him or not, he would not let go.

Xiao Qing accompanied Xiang Yi out of the hospital.

"Yi Yi, why don't you stay at my place tonight?" Xiao Qing said.

"No, Xiao Qing, I'm fine. I want to go back and keep Grandma company," Xiang Yi said.

"Yi Yi, don't be like this. The doctor said your pregnancy is unstable. Don't get too excited and take good care of the baby," Xiao Qing said to her.

"Okay." Xiang Yi subconsciously touched her flat stomach.

“Grandma will be watching over you from heaven and protecting you. You’re pregnant now, you need to think about the baby,” Xiao Qing said.

"Yes, I know, I'm fine," Xiang Yi said.

"How about this, I'll go back with you today," Xiao Qing said.

"Okay." Xiang Yiyi did not refuse.

Xiao Qing drove Xiang Yiyi home. Xiang Yiyi looked at the empty house, hugged herself, and buried her face in her knees.

"Yi Yi, don't cry." Xiao Qing hugged her arm.

"I'm fine." Xiang Yi raised her face, her eyes red-rimmed.

"What are your plans next?" Xiao Qing asked, looking at Yi Yi.

"Yi Yi, you and Lin Lubai are married, why don't you tell him about the child?" Xiao Qing couldn't help but ask her.

"Xiao Qing, I want a divorce," Xiang Yi said seriously.

"What did you say? You've gone mad because Grandma left, haven't you?" Xiao Qing asked her in surprise.

“I’m not stupid. This marriage was too hasty, and we only got married because of my grandmother. Now that she’s gone, our marriage should be null and void,” Xiang Yi said calmly.

“How could you think like that? Although your grandmother was the one who arranged this marriage a lot, if you didn’t have feelings for each other, how could you have agreed to it in the first place?” Xiao Qing advised her.

“But you know, I don’t know anything about him. I’ve only known him for about half a month,” Xiang Yi said.

"Feelings can be cultivated slowly. Besides, you're pregnant," Xiao Qing said.

"I've decided to give birth to the child, regardless of whether Lin Lubai wants it or not," Xiang Yiyi said firmly.

"Have you made up your mind?" Xiao Qing asked.

“I’ve made up my mind. After Grandma passes her seventh-day memorial service, I want to move to another place to relax and clear my head. I’ll come back after the baby is born,” Xiang Yi said.

"Where do you want to go? Or I can quit my job and come with you," Xiao Qing asked her.

"No need, you just focus on your work. You'll have to support me when I have a baby and have nothing to eat. Besides, can you help me manage the tailor shop? Once I'm all set up, I'll come back and open my own studio," Xiang Yi said coquettishly.

"Okay, so where are you planning to go?" Xiao Qing asked her.

"I don't know yet. Maybe I'll go to the grasslands. I want to see the blue sky and white clouds there," Xiang Yiyi said.

She longed for the vast grasslands and the tranquility they offered.
