The Young Swordsman of Dalu
Chapter 98 Father and Son Reconciliation
Zhou Moyao has been imprisoned in the Prince's mansion for almost half a year. His journey from rebellion to imprisonment is like a rollercoaster ride. He thought his dream would come true, but he underestimated his emperor brother. Although Zhou Muyao is not as good as his younger brother Zhou Moyao in martial arts, he has been well-versed in the works of various philosophers since childhood and is much better than Zhou Moyao in strategy.
“Brother, this is the last time I will call you. After today, we will never see each other again! I can pardon the Feng family father and son, and I can pardon you as well. Father Emperor doted on you when he was alive. From now on, your family will go to guard the Imperial Mausoleum. Depart immediately,” Zhou Muyao said.
"Thank you so much, Your Majesty, for sparing our lives!" Zhou Moyao's entire family knelt on the ground, expressing their deepest gratitude to the emperor.
"I hope you will reflect on your actions before your father's tomb. You'd better live the rest of your life in peace and obedience, or else don't blame me for disregarding our brotherly bond," Zhou Muyao said.
“Your subject will keep this in mind!” Zhou Moyao said.
"You'd better watch yourself!" Zhou Muyao said before turning his carriage back to the palace.
Watching the emperor's retreating figure, Zhou Moyao slumped to the ground. The months of anxiety were finally over. He could continue to live. His elder brother had pardoned him. The flame of hope in his heart was rekindled.
In the Prince Wen's mansion, Wen Tao was throwing a tantrum in the front hall. His two sons, Wen Hao and Wen Jie, stood to the side, not daring to say a word. The princess looked at Wen Tao and gave her two sons a look. Wen Hao said, "Father, please calm down. Don't get sick from anger."
"He's practically the nemesis of our Wen family. What sins did I commit in my past life to have a son like him?" Wen Tao said, pointing to the sky with a pained expression.
Wenjie stood there without saying a word. He knew that nothing he said would make a difference. The problem between his father and Wenfei was something they needed to solve themselves, and no matter what others said, it wouldn't matter.
"Father, I'm going to find my fourth brother and bring him back." Wenjie took the opportunity to leave the palace.
Wenjie was still thinking about Shangguan Xingyun. He knew that Wenfei should have gone to the post station to find Li Chaoyang. Since Shangguan Xingyun was also at the post station, he could take the opportunity to check on Shangguan Xingyun.
When Wenjie arrived at the post station, the people there said that Shangguan Xingyun had left early in the morning and had been picked up by Miss Feiyan from the Liang family.
Wenjie saw that there were many visitors at Li Chaoyang's door, but Li Chaoyang's door was tightly closed. Seeing this, Wenjie decided not to disturb him and left the post station alone. Wenjie asked the innkeeper if Wenfei had come by, and the innkeeper told him that Wenfei and Li Wei had left the post station together.
Wenjie walked down the main street of Yulu City, watching the flow of people coming and going. He hoped that the person he was looking for would appear before him immediately.
He remembered what Shangguan Xingyun had said to him when they parted in the northern frontier, but he just couldn't help wanting to see her again.
As for Liang Feiyan, he needed to give her an explanation. He could see that Liang Feiyan had genuine feelings for him, so how could he refuse her? Thinking about this, Wenjie became agitated.
"Second Brother!" Wenfei spotted the absent-minded Wenjie in the bustling crowd.
Wenjie heard Wenfei's shouts and yelled, "Wenfei, you're still wandering around the streets! Father is furious! Come back with me right now!"
"Young Master Wen, I asked Wen Fei to accompany me. I'm about to return to Wenxian Pavilion, and I don't know if I'll have another chance to come." Li Wei and Wen Fei walked over from behind.
"Weren't you with Miss Shangguan and the others?" Wenjie asked.
"Sister Feiyan took Sister Shangguan away, and Grandpa won't let me go out. I'm so angry!" Li Wei said, pouting.
"Wenfei, take Miss Li to Miss Liang first, then you come back to the manor with me," Wenjie said.
“Alright. Some things need to be resolved, tomboy. I’ll take you to Sister Feiyan’s place. I’ll come find you after I’m done with my business,” Wenfei said.
“Alright! Since you have something to do, I’ll go to Sister Feiyan’s place,” Li Wei said.
After Wenfei escorted Li Wei to the Liang residence, he followed Wenjie back to the Wenwang Mansion.
Wenfei did not go to the front hall, but went to the Dowager Empress's courtyard. He had been gone for more than a year and missed the Dowager Empress very much. Every time he saw the Dowager Empress, he thought of his deceased grandmother.
"Grandmother! Your precious grandson is back!" Wenfei shouted as soon as he entered the courtyard.
The old princess was drinking tea in the pavilion in the middle of the lake when she heard the sound. She got up and walked into the courtyard, where she saw Wenfei running towards her.
"My dear grandson, I've missed you so much! You've finally come back to see me! Let me take a good look at you!" the old princess said happily.
"Grandma!" Wenfei rushed into the old princess's arms. He felt as if he were in his grandmother's arms and immediately found the feeling of coming home.
"Let Grandma take a good look," the old princess said, cupping Wenfei's face in her hands. "You've lost so much weight. I told you not to go out and suffer like that. Look at you, it breaks my heart."
"Grandma! Didn't your grandson come back to you safely?" Wenfei said coquettishly.
"Good child, don't go anymore! Stay with Grandma, Grandma doesn't have many years left," the old princess said sadly.
"Grandma will live another thirty or fifty years, she'll live to be a hundred," Wenfei said.
"I've become a deity." The old princess laughed.
"Your Highness, the Prince wants the Fourth Young Master to go to the front hall," a servant from the Prince's residence reported.
"My dear grandson, just listen to what your father says, and don't talk back to him. Don't worry, Grandma will back you up," the old princess said.
"Don't worry about me, Grandma. I'll come back to keep you company later." Wenfei said goodbye to the old princess and went to the front hall.
Wen Tao and the Princess sat in the main seats in the front hall, while Wen Hao and Wen Jie stood to one side. Wen Fei entered the front hall.
"Wenfei greets his father and mother," Wenfei said, bowing.
"Wenfei, come here quickly. It's been over a year since I last saw you. Let your mother see you," said Princess Wen kindly.
"Kneel down! You unfilial son!" Wen Tao shouted, startling everyone present.
Wen Fei immediately knelt on the ground. Wen Tao stood up, walked to Wen Fei, and said, "Bring me the family rules. I'm going to beat this bastard to death!"
"Why are you being so fierce when the child just came back?" Princess Wen said.
"Father! Speak your mind, don't hit people!" Wenjie said, dissatisfied.
"Wenhao! Didn't you hear me? Bring out the family rules!" Wentao shouted at Wenhao.
"Father, I'll go get it right away!" Wenhao was so frightened that he hurriedly went to get the family law.
"Big brother!" Wenjie tried to stop Wenhao, but Wenhao had already run out.
“Father! I know I almost caused trouble. That day in court, if our Emperor had been a little less magnanimous, our Wen family would have been wiped out. But I had to do it. I didn’t want my mother’s wish to be in vain,” Wen Fei said.
“You know, you’re gambling with our entire family’s lives. Do you think His Majesty didn’t intend to kill us? He only made this compromise to spare Prince Zhou’s life,” Wen Tao said.
“Isn’t this good? We each get what we need,” Wenfei said.
"You good-for-nothing! I regret not disciplining you properly when you were young, you good-for-nothing!" Wen Tao said.
"Father, did you ever truly love my mother? Have you thought of her all these years? Does thinking of her make you sad? Do you feel you've done right by her?" Wenfei asked, staring intently at Wentao.
With a "slap!", Wen Tao slapped Wen Fei hard across the face. Wen Fei's ears immediately started ringing. Wen Tao's hand stopped in mid-air and slowly fell down. Wen Fei's questions had deeply pierced his heart.
For so many years, Feng Yuwan has been a thorn in his side, and now their son has reopened his old wounds, leaving him heartbroken and furious.
“Father, to tell you the truth, when I learned the cause of my mother’s death, I wanted to kill you. Feng Yumian also wanted me to do so, but I couldn’t. I know that you were in different positions at the time and made different choices. I don’t blame you. My master told me to follow my heart, and I did. I will still be your son from now on,” Wen Fei said calmly.
"Does it hurt?" Wen Tao asked, his face streaked with tears, as he stroked Wen Fei's cheek.
"It hurts, but my heart feels warm." Wenfei's tears fell.
“Your mother will always be in my heart,” Wentao said.
Wenfei hugged Wentao tightly.
Wenhao came in with the family law. Wenjie gave him a wink, and Wenhao quickly hid the law behind his back. Wenjie gave him a thumbs up, and Wenhao smiled sheepishly.
