The Young Swordsman of Dalu

Chapter 97 Solve the doubts

When Wen Fei and his entourage came out of the palace, the Wen family's carriage was already waiting outside the palace gate.

"Second Young Master, Fourth Young Master and Princess Consort have sent me to escort you back to the manor," a servant from the Wen residence said.

“We’ll ride back ourselves!” Wenjie said.

"Chang Sheng and A Fu, take the carriage back. We still have some things to take care of," Wen Fei said.

The servant looked at Wenjie with difficulty, and Wenjie said, "Don't be troubled. Go back and tell the Princess that the Fourth Young Master and I will be returning to the manor soon."

Changsheng and Afu boarded the carriage, and only then did the servants feel relieved enough to take them back to the mansion.

"The imperial edict pardoning the Feng family should have reached the Ministry of Justice by now, Second Brother? I'd like to go see them," Wenfei said.

“I’ll go with you,” Wenjie said.

Wen Fei and his companion bid farewell to everyone and went straight to the Ministry of Justice. They waited at the entrance of the Ministry of Justice, and soon the Feng father and son came out from inside.

Wen Fei walked forward, and Feng Datian, seeing Wen Fei, also quickly walked up to him.

"Wenfei, my son and I are so grateful to you for saving our lives. We just heard from the eunuch who was delivering the imperial decree that you pleaded for us before the emperor. We will never forget your kindness." Feng Datian was about to kneel down to express his gratitude.

“Uncle! You are my maternal uncle, how can you kneel before me like this? Are you trying to torture me? I am doing this to fulfill my mother’s wish that you all be well.” Wen Fei quickly helped Feng Datian up.

"Kuo'er! Come over here and thank your cousin!" Feng Datian turned around and called to Feng Kuo.

Feng Kuo slowly walked up to Wen Fei and said, "I thought you would do something earth-shattering after returning to the capital, but I'm so disappointed."

"Kuo'er, what nonsense are you spouting! Quickly thank Wenfei for saving your life!" Feng Datian scolded.

"Thanks!" Feng Kuo gave Wen Fei a perfunctory bow.

"What kind of attitude is that! I'm sorry, Wenfei!" Feng Datian said apologetically.

"It's alright! Uncle, where are you going next?" Wenfei asked.

“We are going to the East China Sea. From there, we will set sail and stop wherever the ship drifts. We will find a deserted island and live out the rest of my life there. I will be very content with that,” Feng Datian said.

"Feng Kuo, come here, I have something to say to you." Wen Fei called Feng Kuo aside.

"What do you want to say to me?" Feng Kuo asked.

“I think you should be clear about your situation. You have been deeply poisoned by Feng Yumian. I hope you will stop having any illusions and spend the rest of your life with your uncle. If I find out that you have done something detrimental to the country, I will find you and kill you no matter where you are in the world. I will not hesitate to do so.” Wen Fei warned Feng Kuo.

"Who knows? Let time decide! Farewell!" Feng Kuo turned and walked to Feng Datian: "Father, let's set off!"

"Wenfei, farewell!" Feng Datian looked at Wenfei with reluctance.

"The road ahead is long and arduous! Take care on your journey, Uncle!" Wenfei watched the Feng father and son depart into the distance.

Wenjie walked over and, seeing Wenfei's dejected look, said, "Wenfei, don't be sad!"

"Second Brother, I'm fine. You should go back to the manor first! I have other things to do, so I'll go back in a couple of days," Wenfei said.

“Wenfei, you will eventually have to face your father, so don’t run away from it, okay? Your second brother will protect you, so don’t be afraid, okay?” Wenjie said.

"I won't run away. I'm just going to the post station to find Elder Li. I have some questions for him. Don't worry, Second Brother, I'll return to the manor after I'm done," Wenfei said.

"I'll wait for you at the manor!" Wenjie turned and rode his horse toward the Wenwang Mansion.

After watching Wenjie leave, Wenfei rode his horse to the post station. The post station was bustling with people, and Wenfei noticed that they were all carrying gifts, as if they wanted to see someone.

Wen Fei could guess that these people were all there to visit Li Chaoyang, and he had also heard that Li Chaoyang had been staying at home and refusing visitors during his stay in Beijing.

"Hey! Hey! Li Chaoyang is really a weirdo!" Wen Fei muttered to himself.

"Grandpa! If these people don't leave, I can't go out and have fun. It's so boring to finally get to the capital." Li Wei complained to Li Chaoyang.

"We'll be going back to Wenxian Pavilion tomorrow. You should get back to your studies and practice martial arts properly. Find your teacher to help you catch up on the lessons you've missed," Li Chaoyang said seriously.

"Grandpa! You've come all this way, please let me have some fun!" Li Wei pleaded.

“You’ve gotten too wild, girl. Get your heart back on track,” Li Chaoyang said.

"Old Pavilion Master! Wen Fei requests an audience."

"Invite him in!"

Wen Fei entered the room and saw Li Chaoyang and Li Wei sitting there, grandfather and granddaughter. He saw that Li Wei's face was full of grievances, and he couldn't help but find it funny.

"Elder Li!" Wen Fei said respectfully.

"Wenfei, the green thumb ring should be with you now," Li Chaoyang said.

"Old Master's foresight is truly admirable. I have come today to ask you some questions, and I would be grateful if you could answer my doubts," Wen Fei said, bowing.

"Go on," Li Chaoyang said, stroking his beard with his right hand.

"Why is my mother's green thumb ring in your hands? Did you witness my mother commit suicide back then?" Wenfei asked.

Li Chaoyang closed his eyes and sighed. He was finally going to face this day. Before Feng Yuwan committed suicide, she had only one request: that her son grow up safely. Li Chaoyang agreed. Feng Yuwan took off the green thumb ring on her hand and asked Li Chaoyang to give it to Wenfei one day. This was the only thing she left for Wenfei.

“In the South China Sea, I personally witnessed your mother commit suicide. At the time, I felt compassion and wanted to spare her life, but your mother gave up. For you, she actually gave up her right to live. She gave me the green thumb ring and asked me to find an opportunity to give it to you,” Li Chaoyang said.

"Why won't you take me as your apprentice?" Wen Fei asked.

"Your grandfather told me before he died that I must not take you as my disciple. After all, your background has always been a taboo in the Wen family, and he was afraid that you would do something detrimental to the Wen family for your mother's sake," Li Chaoyang said.

"So, you're just going to watch a child fend for himself?" Wen Fei asked coldly.

"Didn't Ji Wuchang take you as his disciple?" Li Chaoyang said.

Wenfei recalled that when he returned from the far north, his master Ji Wuchang had told him that it was Li Chaoyang's idea to take him as a disciple.

“I understand,” Wenfei said.

"Now that things have come to this, don't you still want to reveal your origin?" Li Chaoyang pressed.

"I am Wen Fei, the fourth young master of the Wen family!" Wen Fei said confidently.

"What are you talking about? I don't understand." Li Wei was completely confused.

“It’s because the old master is too suspicious. You don’t need to know too much, you tomboy,” Wen Fei said with a smile.

"You brat! You're just trying to provoke me!" Li Wei got up and was about to hit Wen Fei.

"Hey! A good man doesn't fight with a woman! Old Master, save me!" Wen Fei ran up behind Li Chaoyang.

"What kind of behavior is this?" Li Chaoyang said.

"Thank you for clearing up my doubts, Elder Pavilion Master. Farewell!" Wen Fei said, preparing to leave.

“Wenfei!” Li Chaoyang looked at Wenfei with a question in his eyes.

"Old Master! Please don't take this matter too seriously. In my family's eyes, I am just Wenfei." Wenfei stopped at the door with his back to Li Chaoyang and said.

“I understand now!” Li Chaoyang said.

"Hey kid, wait for me!" Li Wei followed Wen Fei out of the room.

Li Chaoyang didn't stop them from leaving. He thought he was really getting old, and this exciting world of martial arts belonged to the young. It was time for him to retire completely.
