The Young Swordsman of Dalu

Chapter 16 A Person in the Martial World

Since Wen Fei left, the Wenwang Mansion has become much quieter. The old princess consort would occasionally send people to her son, the prince, to inquire about Wen Fei's whereabouts. The prince would only say good things to reassure the old princess consort.

Three sons have left the Prince's mansion in succession. The third son, Wenwu, also went to take up his post in the South China Sea two days ago. Prince Wen was a little disappointed. Although his sons were usually by his side, he was still very annoyed. Now that they were away from home, as a father, he was worried about their future. He hoped that they would be safe and sound while they were away.

After leaving the Prince's Mansion, Wenjie didn't dare to delay for a moment. He rode his horse at full speed straight to Langzi Cliff. After a long and tiring journey, he arrived at Langzi Cliff, where a group of friends from the martial arts world were gathered at the foot of the mountain, waiting for Wenjie.

"Thank you all for your help, I'm late," Wenjie said, bowing respectfully.

"You're too kind! Brother Wen, we've already sparred several times, and you're the only one left to go," the crowd said.

After a hearty meal and drinks, fueled by the alcohol, Wenjie leaped to the top of the cliff, and the others followed suit. Bathed in the afterglow of the sun, Wenjie casually wielded his sword, displaying a set of fluid and graceful swordplay that drew praise from the crowd.

Wenjie sparred with each of them, and in the end, they all fell to Wenjie's sword.

It was getting late, and everyone said they would go down the mountain for drinks and have the competition again tomorrow.

Wenjie sat alone on the cliff top, gazing at the bright moon in the sky, his thoughts racing.

At the age of twelve, after traveling the world with his master, Daoist Wuyou, he became unstoppable.

That year, he also met a woman he would never forget—Shangguan Xingyun, a woman with superb martial arts skills and a free and elegant demeanor. He had never seen a woman like her before, and from the first moment he saw her, he imprinted her firmly in his heart.

Wenjie never told anyone about this; he kept this secret deep in his heart.

Later, he intentionally reduced the number of times he returned home. He didn't want to hear his father talk about his marriage, nor did he want to face Liang Feiyan. He felt that he was no longer worthy of her because his heart already belonged to someone else.

Wenjie wandered the world, hoping to one day meet Shangguan Xingyun again. He would rather spend his life wandering the world with her.

Wenjie and his friends spent a few days at Langziya, during which they drank, sparred, and talked about everything under the sun.

One day, Wenjie received a message from his master, Daoist Wuyou, via carrier pigeon, asking him to return to Nanshan. After receiving the message, Wenjie bid farewell to everyone and rode away on horseback.

Upon arriving at Nanshan, Wenjie went to see Daoist Wuyou.

"Master, what's the matter that's so urgent for me to return to the sect?" Wenjie asked.

"Wenjie, do you remember Shangguan Xingyun?" Master Wuyou asked.

"What's wrong with her?" Wenjie's heart skipped a beat when he heard his master's words.

“Something happened to her. Her master, Abbess Wuyi, wrote to say that a month ago, Shangguan Xingyun went to the Northern Frontier alone and has not been heard from since. She must have had an accident. In the past, she would send a letter to her master by carrier pigeon every three to five days after she went out, but it has been more than a month and there has been no news.” Master Wuyou said.

"Why did Master send me back?" Wenjie asked nervously.

"I want you to go to the Northern Frontier. You've been there before and should be quite familiar with it. Go and find out about Shangguan Xingyun. No matter what the outcome, I hope you can send a message as soon as possible," Master Wuyou instructed.

"Master, did Abbess Wuyi say what Shangguan Xingyun was going to do in the Northern Frontier?" Wenjie asked.

“She didn’t say, and I didn’t ask. In the world of martial arts, everyone has times when they are not in control of their own destiny,” said Master Wuyou.

"I will immediately ride to the northern frontier and send back news of Shangguan Xingyun as soon as possible. Please rest assured, Master," Wenjie said firmly.

"There's no time to lose, go ahead. Be careful while you're out and about," Master Wuyou instructed.

Wenjie changed to a fast horse and rode away. Daoist Wuyou watched Wenjie leave and said, "I hope it was just a false alarm."

Furthermore, after Liang Feiyan and Caihong shook off their accompanying guards, they dressed as men and avoided the main road, choosing instead country lanes.

Autumn is a season of harvest, with the countryside turning golden and everywhere a scene of abundance.

Liang Feiyan took a deep breath, inhaling the mature scent, and felt that life was truly wonderful.

"Miss, let's hurry on our way! We need to find a place to stay before dark." Rainbow pulled Liang Feiyan back to reality.

"Rainbow, you really have no sense of fun. You finally get to come out here, can't you at least enjoy the outside world?" Liang Feiyan complained.

"Miss, I feel it, I'm exhausted. Let's find a place to rest, please have pity on me! I've been running around with you all day," Rainbow said with a mournful face.

"Alright, let's go! Let's find a place to stay." Liang Feiyan pulled Caihong and ran quickly.

"Miss, please spare me! I really can't run anymore," Rainbow pleaded.

"Hahaha! You've been lazy and good-for-nothing all this time, haven't you?" Liang Feiyan said with a laugh.

"I'm so angry!" Rainbow said, pouting.

The two chatted and laughed as they arrived at a village. It was already dark when they walked into the village along the street.

"Miss, where should we stay?" Rainbow asked.

"Let's wait and see," Liang Feiyan said.

"Miss, I can't go on anymore, I'm so tired," Rainbow said, feeling wronged.

"Alright, find one right away. Don't call me 'Miss' anymore, call me 'Young Master', remember that," Liang Feiyan said.

“I’ve remembered, young master,” Rainbow said.

They walked to a wooden door, and Liang Feiyan helped Caihong to knock on the door. After a series of knocks, the door creaked open.

"May I ask who you are?" the person who opened the door asked.

“Uncle, we’re just passing by. It’s getting late, and we’d like to ask if we can rest here for the night before continuing our journey tomorrow,” Liang Feiyan said.

"Life is tough for everyone in this world, come in!" the old man said readily.

"Thank you, sir," Liang Feiyan and her companion said.

“You haven’t had dinner yet, have you? Perfect timing, there’s still some rice in the pot. You can eat it. If it’s not enough, my wife can make you some more,” the old man said.

As he spoke, the old man asked his wife to bring the food to the table.

"Eat it while it's hot," the old woman said.

"Thank you, Auntie," Liang Feiyan said politely.

Rainbow picked up the corn tortillas from the plate and began to wolf them down.

"It's delicious!" Rainbow exclaimed.

"Slow down, your image, your image," Liang Feiyan said softly.

"Miss, we're starving, why worry about our appearance? Let's eat first." Rainbow muttered, her mouth full of food.

"Just eat!" Liang Feiyan couldn't bear to look at Caihong eating.
