The Young Swordsman of Dalu
Chapter 17 I am me, and who are you?
Wenfei stayed in Wenxian Pavilion for half a month. Apart from being served tea and meals, no one came to tell him what to do. Li Chaoyang also did not see him and left him to his own devices.
That day, after breakfast, Wenfei was quite bored in his room.
"Chang Sheng, go out for a walk. To be honest, I've discovered that this place is not only beautiful, but also a great place for health and wellness."
"Fourth Master, have you forgotten why you came here?" Changsheng said.
"Of course I haven't forgotten. No rush, let's enjoy the beautiful scenery of this mountainside first," Wenfei said leisurely.
"Didn't we tell you to stay in your room and not wander around?" Changsheng said.
"We've been holding back for over ten days, and I really can't take it anymore. Let's sneak out later," Wenfei said smugly.
"Fourth Master, let's just stay in our room and not cause any more trouble, or we'll have Elder Li send us home again," Changsheng advised.
"Watch me later," Wenfei said confidently.
Changsheng quietly opened the door, peeked out and looked around. Finding no movement outside, Wenfei and the other man quietly left the room.
They arrived at the back mountain of Wenxian Pavilion without any trouble, where they found a completely different scene.
In autumn, wildflowers bloom all over the mountains and fields. The temperature here is higher than that of Wenxian Pavilion. Spring water flows gently and feels warm to the touch.
"It's a hot spring!" Wenfei exclaimed.
"Fourth Master, keep your voice down," Changsheng said uneasily.
"Look how scared you are, Changsheng," Wenfei said with a laugh.
"It's better to be careful, Fourth Master," Changsheng said.
"Chang Sheng, can you feel that the temperature here is higher than at Wenxian Pavilion?" Wen Fei said.
"Fourth Master, I don't feel anything. Let's go back quickly, or someone will see us." Changsheng said nervously.
"We're already out here, what's there to be afraid of? Just send us home, we'll go home then," Wenfei said loudly.
“If that happens, the prince will beat you again,” Changsheng said.
"Let them fight! I'm used to it anyway," Wen Fei said nonchalantly.
"Fourth Master," Changsheng called out helplessly.
"Since you're here, make the best of it," Wenfei comforted her.
"Fourth Master, what exactly does Elder Li mean? At least give us an explanation. Even if we return to the Prince's residence, we need to give the Prince a reason to go back, lest he take his anger out on you later," Changsheng said.
"Don't worry about it, Changsheng! Let's just enjoy the scenery." Wenfei said, and walked forward.
After walking along a mountain path, they came to a pavilion and went inside to rest. Just as they sat down, a voice rang out: "Who goes there? How dare you trespass on my property?"
Wenfei and his companion looked around but didn't see anyone.
"I wonder who you are. Please show yourself," Wen Fei said.
"I am me, and who are you?" As soon as he finished speaking, a handsome man flew into the pavilion from outside.
Wenfei and Changsheng were stunned for a moment.
"Fourth Master, Wenxian Pavilion is truly a magical place; even the boys there are so handsome," Changsheng exclaimed.
"How come I didn't notice?" Wenfei said.
The person who came up to them said, "Then let's take another closer look."
"I'm sorry, we've never traveled far from home and are not very worldly. Please don't laugh at us, it was our rudeness," Wenfei said.
"Have you just arrived at Wenxian Pavilion? You look unfamiliar," the visitor said.
"May I ask who you are, and whether you have also come to Wenxian Pavilion to become an apprentice?" Wen Fei asked.
"Yes!" the visitor replied.
"Judging from your superb lightness skill, you must have studied under one of the masters in the pavilion," Wen Fei said.
"I don't necessarily need to become your apprentice. Perhaps I have exceptional talent," the man said confidently.
"Pah! Shameless! This is ridiculously exaggerated," Wen Fei cursed inwardly, a look of disdain on his face.
"Don't look at me like that, I'm just that awesome. Hahahaha!" the man said, laughing loudly.
"I was ignorant," Wenfei said.
"Go look elsewhere, I need to practice my skills," the visitor said, dismissing them.
"I am Wen Fei. I do not know who you are...?" Wen Fei asked.
“We don’t know each other, so there’s no need for us to know each other,” the visitor said.
“In that case, let’s leave. We’ve disturbed you.” Wenfei gestured for Changsheng to walk forward.
"Just a heads up, we've reached the edge of a cliff," the person warned.
"Thanks!" Wenfei said, leading Changsheng back.
"Fourth Master is a very strange person," Changsheng said on the way back.
“Anyone who walks out of Wenxian Pavilion could be an extraordinary person, so it’s not surprising. You’ll get used to it,” Wenfei said.
"Fourth Master, what should we do? Will Elder Li accept you or not?" Changsheng asked anxiously.
"I don't know either. I'm not a mind reader, I don't know what he's thinking. Let's wait and see, if it doesn't work out, we'll just head home," Wenfei said.
"Alas!" Changsheng sighed.
"Chang Sheng, relax and let nature take its course," Wen Fei comforted him.
Actually, Wenfei wasn't sure either. He didn't know what Li Chaoyang was thinking. He had made up his mind that even if Li Chaoyang sent him down the mountain, he wouldn't go back to the Prince's Mansion. He wanted to find his second brother and wander the world like Wenjie. Just thinking about it was very exciting.
When Wenfei and his group returned to their lodgings and opened the door, Li Chaoyang was already sitting there waiting for them. Wenfei felt a sudden panic.
"What's the scenery like on the mountain?" Li Chaoyang asked.
“It’s beautiful,” Wenfei said calmly.
"Have you thought it through?" Li Chaoyang asked.
"If Elder Li insists that I am not Wen Fei, I have nothing to say. Since Elder Li is so unwilling to accept me as a disciple, I will leave on my own. Elder Li, please don't come up with such a way to make things difficult for me, forcing me to admit that I am not myself. Chang Sheng, let's go home." Wen Fei said, pulling Chang Sheng along to leave.
"You can stay here for now and wait for further instructions," Li Chaoyang said before leaving.
"I don't want to wait another half month. After all, everyone's time is precious," Wen Fei said loudly towards the door.
"Fourth Master, the person has already gone far away," Changsheng said.
“He can hear me,” Wenfei said smugly.
"Fourth Master, does that mean we'll stay?" Changsheng said happily.
"Look how happy you are. I don't care if I have to stay here. The world is so big, there's nowhere for me to stay," Wenfei said.
"Fourth Master, let's behave ourselves, after all, we're on their turf," Changsheng said.
"I know, Changsheng, you're such a coward," Wenfei said.
Wenfei didn't know what kind of tests Li Chaoyang would put him through in the future, but no matter what, he had to persevere. When he walked out of Wenxian Pavilion, he was sure to make a name for himself.
