Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 326 A Glimpse into the True Intentions of Allies
Like a swarm of giant bats, dark shadows swooped down from the mountain peak, their sharp cries echoing as they hurtled towards the battlefield. These shadows moved with incredible speed, closing in in the blink of an eye. Only then did I realize that they were a group of ferocious flying beasts, their bodies entirely black, their eyes gleaming with an eerie green light that sent chills down my spine.
"Watch out!" I shouted, directing the Crimson Griffin to charge forward. Su Yao followed closely behind, her longsword flashing with silver light as she slashed down the approaching beasts.
The battle intensified once again. Su Yao and I worked in perfect harmony, charging left and right through the horde of ferocious beasts like two bolts of lightning, felling wherever we went. However, I couldn't fully concentrate on the battle; my gaze kept drifting towards Pu and his beast tamers.
Their actions still seemed chaotic, attacking the beast's flanks one moment and suddenly turning to attack its rear the next. But for some reason, I always felt that there was some kind of pattern hidden behind their actions, a pattern that I couldn't understand.
I tried to calm myself down, carefully observing the Beastmasters' every movement, every command, and every reaction of their beasts. Suddenly, a thought struck me, and I noticed a detail: when attacking ferocious beasts, the Beastmasters would always deliberately avoid certain specific parts of their bodies.
"Are they protecting these ferocious beasts?" The thought flashed through my mind.
I refocused my attention on the battlefield, carefully observing the beasts of my other allies, and discovered that they were doing the same thing. They weren't actually attacking the beasts with all their might, but rather, to some extent, they were controlling the pace of the battle and protecting these beasts.
Why? Why would they do this? Do these ferocious beasts have some special value?
A series of questions churned in my mind, making me even more perplexed. Just then, I saw the thorium boy standing to the side, curiously observing the battlefield. He seemed to notice me too, and gave me an innocent smile.
"Brother Nongyu, you're amazing!" he shouted.
I forced a smile and nodded at him, but my heart felt even heavier. The thorium boy was completely unaware of all this; he only saw the surface of the battle, but he didn't know the secrets hidden behind it.
I took a deep breath, clearing my mind of all distractions, and refocused my attention on the battlefield. I had to figure everything out as soon as possible, to uncover the true purpose of the Beastmasters.
I commanded the Crimson Griffin to launch another fierce attack on the beast horde. This time, I didn't just attack blindly; I deliberately mimicked the actions of a Beastmaster, avoiding certain specific parts of the beasts.
Sure enough, my actions caught the attention of the Beastmaster. He turned to look at me, a barely perceptible hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
A surge of joy welled up within me, knowing I was one step closer to the truth. Just then, I felt a cold gaze fall upon me. I turned to see the Beastmaster glaring at me, his eyes filled with anger and disappointment. He strode towards me, his spear pointed at me, and said in an icy tone, "You…"
"What...what are you doing?!" the Beastmaster roared, his spear almost piercing my face. "You're imitating those guys of unknown origin! Do you even know what you're doing?!"
I frowned, suppressing my anger. I knew the Beast Tamer of Nai was suspicious of the Beast Tamer of Pu, but his indiscriminate accusations against me were infuriating. "Beast Tamer of Nai," I said, "I have my reasons for doing this. Now is not the time to explain. Please believe me."
"Trust you? How can you expect me to trust you?!" The Beast Tamer's voice grew even sharper. "You so easily trust these people of unknown origin? Where do you place the safety of our Beast Taming world?!"
“I don’t easily trust anyone,” I said, trying to control my emotions, “I’m just trying to find the truth.”
"The truth? Hmph!" The Beastmaster sneered. "I think you've been misled by them! Look at them, their actions are so strange, their motives are so unclear, and you still believe them!"
The surrounding beast tamers all stopped what they were doing and looked at us. I felt an invisible pressure bearing down on me, making it almost impossible to breathe. I knew that my actions had aroused suspicion and doubt within the beast taming community.
Su Yao walked to my side and gently put her arm around my waist, her soft body pressed against mine. She whispered in my ear, "No matter what, I support you." A warm feeling welled up in my heart, and I looked at her gratefully, my heart filled with strength.
I took a deep breath, turned to look at the Beastmaster, and said firmly, "Beastmaster, I know you have doubts about them, but please give me some time, and I will prove my judgment."
"Time? How much time do we have left to waste?!" the Beastmaster roared. "Do you know that our enemies could attack at any moment? We must unite to fight them!"
“That’s precisely why we need to figure out their true intentions,” I said firmly. “If they are truly our allies, then we can naturally join forces to fight the enemy. But if they have ulterior motives, we must prepare in advance!”
Just then, I saw the Beastmaster approaching us. A meaningful smile played on his lips, but his eyes held an unfathomable light. He stood before us and slowly said, "It seems our cooperation has encountered some minor disagreements..."
A chill ran through me, a coldness shooting from my feet to the top of my head. The Beastmaster's words struck me like a hammer blow. He knew all along I would discover their secret… He had been watching me all along…
My hands unconsciously clenched into fists, my eyes fixed on the Beastmaster, waiting for his next words.
