Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 293 Exploring the Traitor's Web

The dark figure moved with incredible speed, disappearing in a flash. Had I not been constantly on my guard, I would have almost missed it. I held my breath and silently followed. The figure meandered through the streets, finally arriving at an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. I recognized the figure as the Golden Beastmaster, suspected of being a traitor.

The warehouse door was tightly shut, so I carefully went around to the back of the warehouse and found a small window that wasn't closed properly. Through the crack, I saw that the warehouse was brightly lit, and the Golden Beastmaster was talking to another person. The other person was wearing a black cloak, so I couldn't see their face.

"How's it going?" The cloaked figure asked in a low, sinister voice.

“Everything went smoothly,” the Beastmaster replied respectfully. “As you instructed, I have spread the false information, and Nong Yu must be in a real mess right now.”

The cloaked figure chuckled softly: "Very good, Nong Yu is too much of a nuisance, we must get rid of him as soon as possible. This plan is of utmost importance, we cannot afford any mistakes."

I was shocked. It turned out that the Golden Beastmaster wasn't a traitor, but a frame-up! The real mastermind was this mysterious cloaked figure! I had to tell Su Yao this as soon as possible and find out the true identity of this cloaked figure.

Just as I was about to leave, I suddenly heard a strange noise coming from inside the warehouse. I quickly looked through the crack in the window again and saw several men in black escorting Yi Beastmaster in. Yi Beastmaster was pale and trembling all over, clearly having been severely tortured.

"Iridium Beastmaster, do you have anything else to say?" the cloaked man asked coldly.

"I...I've told you everything I know..." The Beastmaster's voice was weak, tinged with despair.

"Hmph, it seems you won't shed a tear until you see the coffin!" The cloaked man waved his hand, and a man in black stepped forward, holding a sharp dagger.

My heart tightened; I knew the Beastmaster's life was in imminent danger. I had to intervene!

However, just as I was about to break down the door, I noticed several powerful auras surrounding the warehouse. These auras were extremely well concealed; if it weren't for my keen senses, I wouldn't have been able to detect them at all. It seems the traitors were prepared and had set up an ambush!

I gritted my teeth, caught in a dilemma. If I acted rashly, I wouldn't only fail to save the Beastmaster, but I would also put myself in danger. But if I stood idly by, the Beastmaster would surely die!

Just as I was hesitating, I suddenly heard Su Yao's voice from behind me: "Nong Yu, what are you doing?"

I was startled and quickly turned around to look. I saw Su Yao standing not far away, looking at me with a puzzled expression.

Damn it, how did she end up here? Did she also discover the traitor's trail?

I was about to explain when I suddenly felt a strong sense of crisis. I turned around abruptly and saw the warehouse door suddenly open, and several men in black rushed out, surrounding Su Yao and me.

"It seems you've discovered our secret." The cloaked figure emerged from the warehouse, his voice icy. "In that case, don't blame us for being impolite!"

I clenched my fists, my heart filled with anger and helplessness. It seemed the investigation had reached a stalemate.

Just then, a clear voice suddenly rang out: "Perhaps, I can help you."

I looked in the direction of the sound and saw a boy standing not far away with a confident smile on his face.

"Who are you?" I asked warily.

"Silver Boy." The boy smiled slightly, "I know a new direction for investigation..."

The silver-haired boy's words stunned both Su Yao and me. A new direction for the investigation? In this situation, what new breakthrough could there be? I looked at Su Yao, and her eyes also flickered with doubt.

"Tell me about it," Su Yao said first, her tone filled with anticipation.

The silver-haired youth pointed to the largest beast-taming trading market in the city and said, "I overheard a beast-tamer mention that traitors would trade with dark forces through special channels, and these transaction records are likely hidden in the archives of the beast-taming trading market."

A thought struck me; this was a direction I'd never considered before. While the beast-taming market appeared to operate legally, some shady dealings did indeed exist behind the scenes. If the traitors were truly colluding with dark forces through this method, then the transaction records would inevitably leave clues.

"Okay, let's go to the Beast Taming Trading Market right now!" I made a quick decision, grabbed Su Yao's hand, and prepared to leave. Su Yao gently took my arm, a faint fragrance emanating from her, which calmed my anxious heart a little. "Be careful, Nong Yu," she said softly, her tone full of concern.

I nodded, feeling the warmth of her hand, and a surge of warmth welled up inside me. With Su Yao by my side, I felt as if I had boundless courage.

The beast-taming trading market was bustling with people. We disguised ourselves and blended into the crowd, beginning our careful search for the "special channels" mentioned by the beast tamers.

Following the silver boy's directions, we found a secret auction house beneath the trading market. The atmosphere there was eerie and sinister; everyone coming and going was in a hurry, acting furtively. Su Yao and I exchanged a glance, both seeing a hint of unease in each other's eyes.

We paid a price to finally obtain the recent transaction records. I carefully examined the thick ledger, searching page by page for anything suspicious. Su Yao, on the other hand, kept an eye on our surroundings to prevent anyone from secretly monitoring us.

Time ticked by, and fine beads of sweat appeared on my forehead. Just as I was about to give up, a familiar name suddenly caught my eye—Platinum Strategist!

Platinum Strategist, a highly respected advisor in the city, appears gentle and refined on the surface, but is actually extremely cunning. I had suspected him before, but had never found conclusive evidence. And now, his name has appeared in this secret transaction record!

My heart started pounding, and a premonition told me that I had found the real mastermind!

I told Su Yao about this discovery, and she was equally shocked. We continued to examine the ledger and, sure enough, found more transaction records related to the Platinum Strategist, including even the name of the Iridium Beastmaster!

The truth has come to light! The Iridium Beastmaster was not the real traitor; he was merely manipulated by the Platinum Strategist! And the Platinum Strategist is the true mastermind behind it all!

I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. Now is not the time to be happy; we must deliver this evidence to the city lord as soon as possible and expose the strategist's conspiracy.

Just as we were about to leave, a letter was suddenly slipped into my hand. I opened the envelope and saw a line written on it:

"Don't investigate any further, or you'll regret it..."

My hands began to tremble uncontrollably. Who was it? Who was secretly watching us? And who was threatening us?

I looked up and around, only to find the crowd still bustling about, as if nothing had happened... "Su Yao, we..."
