Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 292 All Accomplices Exposed
I grabbed the Beastmaster by the collar and lifted him off the ground. "Tell me! Besides you, who else was involved in this conspiracy?!"
The Beastmaster Yi trembled, his eyes flickering, his lips quivering, yet he remained silent. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, reflecting the faint moonlight. He was afraid, afraid of the Strategist Bai's revenge. He knew all too well that if he betrayed Bai, he would meet a terrible end… “I…” he managed to utter a single word, then fell silent again. His gaze darted around, as if he were engaged in a fierce internal struggle.
"Looks like you won't learn your lesson until you see the coffin!" I sneered, my spiritual energy surging in my hand. A fiery red spirit fox appeared beside me, letting out a low growl, its eyes flashing with a fierce light. This was my natal beast—the Crimson Flame Fox.
"No...don't..." The Beast Tamer's face turned even paler when he saw the Crimson Flame Fox. He knew how powerful the Crimson Flame Fox was, and he also knew about my Beast Taming ability—I could read some of the memories of my tamed beasts through the Crimson Flame Fox!
I sneered and pressed the Crimson Flame Fox's paw onto the Iridium Beastmaster's head. "Since you won't tell me, then let me see for myself!"
The Crimson Flame Fox's claws emitted a faint red glow, and the Iridium Beast Tamer's body began to tremble. His eyes gradually became vacant, as if he had lost consciousness. A stream of information flooded into my mind—fragments of the Iridium Beast Tamer's memories.
I saw a dimly lit room where the Platinum Strategist was having a secret conversation with a tall, Golden Beastmaster. Their conversation was fragmented, but enough for me to glean some crucial information. The Golden Beastmaster had been framed! There was another real traitor, a very well-disguised individual—the Palladium Assistant!
I abruptly recalled the Crimson Flame Fox, and the Iridium Beast Tamer collapsed to the ground, his eyes vacant, clearly still recovering from the impact.
I took a deep breath, suppressing my anger. The fact that the Golden Beastmaster had been framed gave me a slight sense of relief; at least we hadn't lost a high-level beastmaster. But the Palladium Assistant… this guy who had been hiding behind the scenes all along was the real threat!
“Palladium Assistant…” I murmured to myself, the image of that always taciturn figure following behind the Platinum Strategist flashing through my mind. He had always maintained a very low profile, to the point that people almost forgot he existed. I never imagined he was the real mastermind!
I turned to Su Yao and said, "Su Yao, we must find Palladium Assistant immediately and stop him!"
Su Yao nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "Let's go!"
I grabbed the Iridium Beastmaster, hoisted him onto my shoulder, and then, together with Su Yao, ran towards where the Palladium Assistant might be hiding.
The night wind howled, whipping at my clothes and stirring the unease in my heart. I knew a greater storm was about to break… I suddenly stopped, a sense of foreboding washing over me. I whirled around, looking behind me—a dark figure was silently approaching… “Who?!”
I demanded sharply, and the Crimson Flame Fox in my hand let out a low, warning growl, flames rising around it and illuminating the surroundings. The shadowy figure paused, then revealed itself—it was Palladium Assistant! His face was grim, and his eyes flashed with a vicious light.
"Nong Yu, you've ruined my plans!" Palladium's assistant said through gritted teeth, a dagger that had appeared in his hand at some point, gleaming coldly.
"Hmph, do you think you can escape?" I sneered. The Crimson Flame Fox was eager to attack, ready to strike at any moment. Su Yao stood beside me, holding a long sword, her gaze icy, like a guardian deity.
"Escape? Why would I escape?" The palladium assistant gave a sinister smile. "I'm just here to see you off."
With that, he flashed forward, lunging at me like a ghost. The dagger whistled through the air. I was already prepared, and dodged his attack by sidestepping. At the same time, the Crimson Flame Fox pounced, biting at the arm of the Palladium Assistant.
Palladium Assistant reacted swiftly, retracting his dagger and blocking the Crimson Flame Fox's attack. Sparks flew, accompanied by a piercing metallic clang. He and the Crimson Flame Fox were locked in combat, neither gaining the upper hand for the time being.
I didn't stand idly by. My spiritual energy surged in my hand, condensing into a sharp longsword, and I joined the battle. Su Yao also coordinated with my attacks, her longsword dancing, sword energy crisscrossing, forcing the Pa Assistant to retreat steadily.
"Damn it!" the Palladium Assistant roared, suddenly pulling a black bead from his pocket and slamming it to the ground.
"Watch out!" Su Yao exclaimed and pushed me away.
The black bead exploded, and a thick black mist instantly spread out, obscuring my vision. I felt dizzy and had difficulty breathing.
"Cough cough..." Su Yao coughed violently, clearly also affected by the black mist.
"Despicable!" I roared, enduring the discomfort as I tried to dispel the black mist. However, the black mist clung to us like a leech, impossible to shake off.
Just then, a warm hand grasped mine tightly.
"Nong Yu, don't be afraid, I'm here." It was Su Yao's voice, trembling slightly, but incredibly firm.
I took her hand in return, feeling the warmth of her palm, and my unease gradually dissipated. I knew that no matter what happened, she would be by my side.
The black mist gradually dissipated, and the figure of the Palladium Assistant had long since disappeared. I took a deep breath, suppressed the anger in my heart, and turned to look at Su Yao.
"Are we alright?" I asked with concern.
"It's nothing." Su Yao shook her head, her face a little pale, but her eyes shone with determination.
We smiled at each other, and the trust and love between us deepened at that moment.
Based on some clues provided by the Beastmaster of Iridium, I revised the battle plan and began to investigate other possible traitors.
In the dead of night, I quietly sneaked into the vicinity of the residence of a beast tamer suspected of being a traitor, closely observing the surrounding movements.
Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed through the house...
