Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 294 The Traitor's Backlash

"Su Yao, we must be even more careful." I said in a low voice, my heart pounding. The handwriting on that letter seemed to carry a chilling aura, clinging tightly to me. Su Yao nodded solemnly, gripping her longsword tightly.

We left the money exchange. The streets were bustling with people and the sounds of vendors calling out their wares, but this noisy scene did nothing to dispel the unease in my heart. That letter was like a time bomb, ready to explode at any moment.

Over the next few days, we investigated the Platinum Strategist with even greater caution, while also secretly searching for the person who sent us the letter. However, things took an increasingly bizarre turn. Every day, I received an anonymous letter, the contents of which escalated from initial warnings to blatant threats, even mentioning my family.

Fear began to spread; I felt like prey caught in a spider's web, unable to move. Su Yao noticed my distress and comforted me, saying, "Nong Yu, don't be afraid, I will protect you." Her eyes were firm yet gentle, giving me immense courage.

Today, we're heading to a secluded forest on the outskirts of the city to find a hermit who knows the secrets of the strategist, Platinum. This road is remote and rarely traveled, making it perfect for those hiding in the shadows to strike.

"Be careful, I have a feeling something's not right," I whispered, glancing warily around. Su Yao nodded, summoning her tamed beast—a snow-white spirit fox—to lead the way.

After walking for about half an hour, we came to a dense forest. Just then, the fox suddenly stopped and let out a low growl.

"There's an ambush!" Su Yao's expression changed, and she pulled me behind her.

No sooner had the words left his mouth than a group of men in black burst out of the woods, brandishing gleaming swords and knives, lunging towards us. Leading them was none other than Platinum Strategist's assistant—Palladium Assistant!

"Nong Yu, you didn't expect this, did you? We'd be waiting for you here!" Palladium's assistant sneered. "Today is your death day!"

My heart sank to the bottom. It seemed that the strategist had already noticed our actions and made preparations in advance.

I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down. Now is not the time to be afraid; I must protect Su Yao, and I must protect myself.

"Su Yao, watch out!" I shouted, summoning my beast—a gigantic bear.

The giant bear let out a deafening roar and charged towards the man in black… “King Kong, protect Su Yao!” I whispered, my eyes fixed on the Pao Assistant, my hand already reaching for the short knife at my waist…

King Kong roared, its massive body, like a small mountain, blocking Su Yao and me. It swung its enormous paws, swatting away the charging men in black as easily as swatting flies. I took a deep breath, suppressing my fear, and fixed my gaze on Pad Assistant. Although this guy didn't have a beast tamer, his eyes were sinister; he was clearly not someone to be trifled with.

"King Kong, unleash your earth-shaking roar!" I shouted. King Kong understood, stomped the ground, and let out a deafening roar. The ground trembled violently, and some of the weaker men in black were knocked unconscious. Taking advantage of this opportunity, I activated my "mind-eye sharing" with King Kong. King Kong's vision, hearing, and sense of smell instantly connected with mine, and everything around me became incredibly clear.

I noticed that although Palladium Assistant was directing the battle, his eyes kept drifting towards a certain direction—a dense thicket of bushes. On a whim, King Kong immediately pounced towards the bushes.

"There they are!" I shouted, and King Kong's massive bear paw swung, smashing the bushes to pieces. Sure enough, there were several men in black hiding there, preparing to ambush us.

"Trying to launch a sneak attack? Not so easy!" I sneered and commanded King Kong to drag them out one by one.

At this moment, Su Yao joined the battle. Her movements were agile, her longsword wielded with impenetrable speed, like a silver lightning bolt weaving through the men in black. Her resolute gaze and powerful figure made my heart race, and a warm feeling welled up inside me.

"Watch out!" I saw a man in black attack Su Yao from behind and shouted immediately. Su Yao reacted quickly, dodging the attack with a sidestep, and then stabbed the man in black to the ground with a backhand sword.

"Nong Yu, I'm fine!" Su Yao turned around and smiled at me, a smile like a ray of sunshine in winter, warming my heart.

The battle lasted for half an hour. Under Jin Gang's immense strength and Su Yao's superb swordsmanship, the men in black were utterly defeated, some dying and others fleeing. Seeing that the situation was hopeless, Pa's assistant also took advantage of the chaos to escape.

"Damn it, he got away!" I slammed my fist on the ground, my heart filled with resentment.

Su Yao walked to my side, gently took my hand, and said softly, "Don't worry, we'll catch him sooner or later." Her hand was soft and warm, which made me feel incredibly at ease.

Although we successfully repelled the enemy this time, I know this is just the beginning. The strategist and his henchmen certainly won't let this go; what even more ruthless methods will they employ next?

“Let’s go.” I took a deep breath, grabbed Su Yao’s hand, and headed towards an abandoned tavern on the outskirts of the city… Perhaps there, I could find the answer I was looking for. Pushing open the creaking wooden door, a musty smell wafted out…
