Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 29 Treasure Hunt in the Ruins, Malice Returns

After Chen left, Su Yao and I quickly slipped into Professor Sun's tent. Professor Sun was still fast asleep; it seemed Chen had moved very quietly and hadn't woken him. I searched the tent thoroughly, and sure enough, the map of the ancient ruins that Professor Sun had brought was gone.

"It seems that Chen's goal is the treasure in the ruins."

Su Yao said in a deep voice, "We have to get ahead of him."

I nodded, a strange mix of excitement and unease welling up inside me.

We are excited because we might find some precious treasures; we are uneasy because Chen's greed and unscrupulousness may bring us trouble.

Without disturbing Professor Sun, we quietly left the camp and, following the route we remembered, re-entered the ancient ruins.

The ruins were dark and damp, filled with an ancient and mysterious aura. We proceeded cautiously, afraid of disturbing any unknown dangers.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, we arrived at a spacious hall. In the center of the hall sat a treasure chest that emitted a faint glow.

The treasure chest was made entirely of an unknown metal, engraved with intricate patterns, and exuded an ancient and mysterious aura.

"That's it!"

I was overjoyed and quickly walked towards the treasure chest.

"and many more!"

Su Yao grabbed me, "Be careful, it might be a trap!"

That's when I noticed that there seemed to be some subtle marks on the ground around the treasure chest, like some kind of mechanism or trap.

Despite careful observation, I was still unable to determine the exact location of the trap and its triggering mechanism.

"Damn it, what kind of trap is this?"

I cursed under my breath.

Just then, a familiar voice came from behind: "Hehe, I didn't expect you to find this place too."

I turned around and saw Chen, accompanied by several followers, walking towards us with a smug look on his face.

"Student Chen, we found this treasure chest first. Please leave."

Su Yao said coldly.

"joke!"

Chen sneered, "The things in these ruins belong to whoever gets them first. If you know what's good for you, get lost, or don't blame me for being impolite!"

"you……"

Su Yao was furious and was about to make a move.

I grabbed her arm and said in a deep voice, "Su Yao, calm down. This guy clearly came prepared. We can't act impulsively."

I turned to Chen and said, "Chen, there's no need for things to get so tense. How about we cooperate, open the treasure chest together, and split the treasure inside equally?"

"cooperate?"

Chen scoffed, "You think you're qualified to cooperate with me? I advise you to get out of my way, or else..."

A ruthless glint flashed in Chen's eyes, and his henchmen behind him were also eager to make a move, seemingly ready to attack at any moment. I took a deep breath, trying to remain calm.

The treasure chest was so close, I couldn't give up! I squinted, carefully observing the ground around the chest, trying to find any trace of a trap...

Suddenly, I noticed a small groove at the bottom of the treasure chest...

"and many more……"

I spoke, my eyes fixed on the groove.

"I think I know how to open this treasure chest."

Chen was taken aback for a moment, then laughed disdainfully, "Playing tricks! You think you can scare me like that? Get out of the way, or else..."

I ignored his shouting and instead picked up a small stone from the ground and carefully placed it into the groove.

As soon as the stone was placed inside, the ground around the treasure chest trembled slightly. Then, magical runes emerged from the ground, emitting a dazzling light.

Chen's expression changed drastically, and he exclaimed, "Oh no! It's a magic trap!"

But he had no time to dodge. The magical runes quickly intertwined, forming a semi-transparent barrier that trapped him inside.

"Haha, Chen, thank you for leading us to the treasure chest. It's a pity that this treasure is destined to be out of your reach."

I couldn't help but laugh, and all the tension and pressure in my heart instantly vanished, replaced by an indescribable feeling of exhilaration. This feeling is truly wonderful!

Su Yao also breathed a sigh of relief, gave me an approving look, and said, "You did a great job, Nong Yu."

Chen jumped and hopped inside the barrier, shouting angrily, "Let me out! Let me out! This treasure is mine!"

He urged his tamed beast, a porcupine covered in sharp quills, to attack the magical barrier frantically, but the barrier remained unmoved, and his attacks were completely ineffective.

Su Yao and I exchanged a glance, then ignored him and focused on studying the treasure chest.

I tried to push the lid of the treasure chest, but it wouldn't budge, as if it were locked by some force.

"I'll try."

Su Yao stepped forward and placed her hand on the lid of the treasure chest. A powerful energy surged from her body and flowed into the treasure chest.

The treasure chest lid trembled slightly, making a clicking sound, and then slowly opened.

The moment the treasure chest was opened, a powerful force surged out from within, filled with an ancient and mysterious aura.

Su Yao and I both felt a warm current flow through our bodies, and our beast-taming abilities seemed to have improved to some extent.

I felt a stronger connection between myself and my beast companion, the lightning sable, as if we were of one mind.

When Chen saw that we had taken the treasure, he was furious. He let out a roar and suddenly unleashed a powerful force that broke through the magic barrier.

His eyes were bloodshot, and he pounced on me like an enraged beast.

"court death!"

Su Yao shouted and stepped in front of me, engaging in a fierce battle with Chen. I wasn't idle either, commanding my Lightning Sable to join the fight.

After a fierce battle, we finally defeated Chen.

He fled in a sorry state, not forgetting to threaten as he left: "You just wait! I won't let you get away with this!"

Although I had repelled Chen, I didn't feel relieved. I knew Chen's character well; he would definitely not let this go and would likely bring back helpers to retaliate.

Moreover, there are many unknown areas in this ancient ruin, and no one knows what dangers they may encounter next.

We collected the treasures from the chest and continued our exploration deeper into the ruins. After walking through a long passageway, a breathtaking view suddenly opened up before us…

I sensed something was amiss and instinctively gripped my sword tighter. Su Yao also stopped and cautiously looked around.

Suddenly, a group of people emerged from the darkness and surrounded us.

I spotted Chen in the crowd immediately, along with a burly middle-aged man standing next to him.

The man was dressed in a magnificent brocade robe, with a long sword inlaid with jewels hanging at his waist, and he exuded a powerful aura.

My heart sank; I realized this was a premeditated attack…

"It's them, Beastmaster Liu!"

"Chen pointed at us and said fiercely," Chen said. Su Yao and I exchanged a glance…
