Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 116 The Journey of Preparation: Know Yourself and Your Enemy
Even after the referee left, my unease didn't dissipate. Cross's arrogance and strength put immense pressure on me.
To win in this unfamiliar world of beast taming, one must have a thorough understanding of one's opponents.
"We need to find out more about Cross."
I said to Su Yao.
Su Yao nodded. "Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will never be defeated. I'll be going to the arena these next few days to watch more of his match recordings. What about you?"
"I'm going to gather intelligence on other aspects."
I already have a plan in mind.
Over the next few days, I immersed myself in the database of the Beast Taming World, reading through all sorts of information about Kross, from his growth experience to the details of every match, I studied them all carefully.
His tamed beast is a rare fire-type magical beast called "Flame Demon," which has extremely strong attack power and is also very fast.
In almost every match, Kroos quickly ended the battle by relying on the explosive power of the Flame Demon.
He was virtually undefeated and hailed as a leading figure among the younger generation; some even predicted he would become the Beast Taming Saint. Looking at this information, my heart grew heavier and heavier.
Can such an opponent really be defeated? Does he really have no weaknesses? I don't believe anyone is perfect; there must be something about Kroos that has been overlooked.
I rubbed my sore eyes and continued flipping through the documents. Suddenly, a picture caught my attention.
It was a photo of Cross during a match. The Balrog in the photo was breathing fire, and there was a faint blue halo around its feet.
The halo was very faint, almost imperceptible, but my intuition told me that this might be Cross's weakness.
I looked at several other photos repeatedly and found this blue halo in all of them.
I started searching for information about this halo and finally found the answer in an ancient document.
This blue halo is a special energy fluctuation that only appears when the Flame Demon uses a certain secret technique.
This secret technique, though powerful, has a fatal flaw—it requires a short charging time! I was overjoyed; this was precisely Cross's weakness!
As long as we can seize this moment to build up our power, we have a chance to defeat him! I excitedly told Su Yao about this discovery.
"You're amazing, Yu!" Su Yao's eyes sparkled. "I knew you'd find a way!"
Seeing Su Yao's smile filled me with confidence.
I know this game will be very tough, but we have found Kroos's weakness, and the scales of victory are starting to tip in our favor.
To gain a better understanding of the competition rules and details, I decided to visit the competition organizers.
When I arrived at the chief referee's residence, I found his attitude unusually cold... As soon as I opened my mouth to ask about the competition venue, he impatiently interrupted me.
The chief judge's residence was decorated in an antique style, with wisps of white smoke rising from the incense burner.
He leaned back in the carved wooden chair, toying with a jade thumb ring in his hand, a hint of disdain in his eyes.
I had barely started asking about the competition venue, such as its size and whether there were any special restrictions, when he impatiently interrupted me.
"You don't need to worry about these details."
His tone was icy, and he didn't even look me in the eye. "The rules of the competition are all public; you can go and see for yourself. I have important matters to attend to, so I won't keep you company any longer."
His tone was clearly dismissive and contemptuous, which made me very uncomfortable.
I took a deep breath, trying to suppress my anger, and continued, "Referee, I'd like to know more about our opponents, especially about Cross..."
Before I could finish speaking, he interrupted me again, his tone even tinged with sarcasm: "Kross is a genius in our Beast Taming world, his strength is obvious to all. You, an outsider, shouldn't be delusional. I advise you to give up the competition as soon as possible, so as not to embarrass yourself on the field."
His words went beyond mere contempt; they were blatant discrimination. He completely disregarded me, not even giving me a chance to finish speaking.
Su Yao, who had been holding back for some time, said angrily, "How could they treat us like this!"
She clenched her fists, as if she wanted to rush forward and argue.
I took Su Yao's hand, gave her a reassuring look, and then calmly said to the chief referee, "Chief referee, I know you are a highly respected senior in the Beast Taming world, but I believe that the outcome of the competition ultimately depends on strength, not background. I will prove with my performance that I am not the 'wishful thinking' person you described."
After saying that, I pulled Su Yao and turned to leave. Even after we left the chief referee's residence, Su Yao's anger had not subsided.
How could they treat us like this!
She said angrily, "This is simply outrageous!"
I gently patted her shoulder and comforted her, "It's okay, we will prove ourselves. Their prejudice and discrimination will only become our motivation to move forward."
Although my tone was calm, a raging fire burned within me. The referee's arrogance and prejudice only strengthened my resolve to win the game.
Back at my lodgings, I told Ellie, whom I knew before, about the chief referee's attitude. Ellie looked worried after hearing it.
“The head referee does seem to favor the local players,” she said in a low voice. “I’ve heard he has some connections to the Cross family. You need to be careful during the match; he might try to manipulate the rules.”
Ellie's words made my heart sink. It seemed this match was more complicated than I had imagined. I had to be fully prepared to deal with any possible situation.
I studied Kross's match video again carefully and told Su Yao about the Flame Demon's weaknesses and Ellie's reminder.
Together, we developed a detailed battle plan, striving to consider every single detail. The day of the competition finally arrived. The arena was packed with people, and the atmosphere was electric.
In the audience, there were cheers for Kroos, as well as doubts and taunts directed at me. I took a deep breath and tried to remain calm.
I know this match isn't just for myself, but also for Su Yao and for everyone who supports me. Kross entered the arena with his powerful Flame Demon Beast.
The beast was engulfed in raging flames, emanating a terrifying aura, as if it would burn the entire arena to ashes.
I clenched my fist, my gaze fixed firmly on Cross, silently vowing, "Just you wait, I'll show you my true power..."
Su Yao stood beside me, her hand tightly holding mine, and I could feel the sweat on her palm.
“It’s starting…” she said softly.
