Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2

Chapter 75: Provocation

We flew slowly inside with Dafu in our arms, and just as I had guessed, there really was danger waiting for us inside.

Even more terrifying was that a large number of insects had fallen to the ground, their fate unknown.

Seeing such a terrifying situation, of course my first instinct was to grab Dafu and run for my life.

Our idea was good, but when we actually took action, we realized that we had been targeted by others for a long time.

Just as we were fleeing to one side, a grasshopper appeared in front of us, staring at us menacingly.

My heart sank the moment I saw the grasshopper that suddenly appeared. Was it trying to kill me? I frantically looked around to see if there was anywhere I could escape.

But to my despair, several grasshoppers crawled out from the cabbages around me. These grasshoppers were like aliens, completely surrounding me.

It was a sense of urgency that there was no escaping it, especially since I myself have wings.

Even with wings, I still feel like I can't escape.

"What do you mean?" I asked nervously. This is a competition, how could there be so many grasshoppers in such a competition?

"We are your obstacle. If you still can't see it, then you deserve to fail here," one of the grasshoppers said calmly.

Just as I thought, such a big competition shouldn't be blocked by any other creatures. Sure enough, it was a team invited by the organizing committee to intercept us.

Is this the law of the jungle? The survival of the fittest? Will this competition provide an opportunity to show everyone what the real world is like?

I no longer need them to tell me; I know all too well what the law of the jungle is, because the laws of humanity are even more extreme than that.

It's like killing without shedding blood. I remember when I used to work, I worked at a driving school. It was the principal of that driving school who asked me to go there.

But then, that damn principal later had his nephew replace me, and I was laid off just like that, without any explanation. So, no matter where you are, it's always easier to get things done if you have connections.

Having a powerful backer means you can live a good life; otherwise, you're nothing, not even as good as excrement, which maggots and dung beetles love.

However, in today's fast-paced society, if you don't have your own background, you are sometimes even worse off than excrement. At least when you are excrement, no one dares to step on your head.

But people are different. If you're easy to bully, all sorts of people will step on you and do whatever they want to you.

Sometimes it's really tragic to think about it; sometimes a person's life is worse than that of a pile of poop.

When I was a human, I was trampled on in every way. Then I became a maggot and was bullied in every way. Now I have finally become a fly, and I can fly and roam the sky.

How can I accept that even grasshoppers are bullying me?

As a man, my bottom line—that refusal to admit defeat or accept my fate—made me completely explode. These guys wanted me to surrender?

How could I agree so easily? If I give in so easily, what about my bottom line? What about my dignity?

What happened to my promise to change? I made a vow to be a decent human being.

How could I be stopped by a few tiny grasshoppers?

Looking at the grasshopper in front of me, I knew perfectly well what I needed most right now.

"Since you say I've failed right here, then let's see how you're going to make me fail!" I've never been clearer than I am now. I know I'm surrounded, but I'm not in despair yet.

How will you know if you can do something if you don't try?

I think giving it a try is not only a promise to myself, but also an affirmation of myself. If I don't even have the courage to resist, then even if I become a human, am I still a human?

"Looks like you really won't learn your lesson until you're faced with a real crisis. Well then, don't blame us for being impolite," the grasshopper across from me said angrily.

It's clear that this grasshopper is the leader, and they're probably about to make their move. It seems this time we'll have to face them head-on.

"Dafu, fly towards the direction of the shadow. The exit is in the direction of the shadow, and that's where the exit is too. If you can't see the shadow anymore, look at the sun. Remember that," I whispered to Dafu beside me.

"What do you want to do with 12 cents?" Dafu asked with obvious concern.

“I’m not going to do anything else, just do one thing: prove to myself that I can do it,” I said to Dafu beside me.

"Remember, when the fight starts, I'll lure them away. You should try to escape first," I said in a very low voice.

"And what about you?" Dafu asked worriedly.

"Me? I'm sure I can escape. Haven't I encountered enough troubles along the way? Haven't I managed to break through?" I comforted Dafu.

"Kid, even if I let you die, I'll make sure you know why. My name is Leng Yao," the grasshopper said arrogantly from the cabbage.

He exudes an aura of "nobody can leave, I own the world."

I started to be careful. Those grasshoppers on the cabbages around me didn't look like ordinary grasshoppers at all. How am I supposed to escape later?

How could I just give in to that grasshopper's provocation? Besides, I should provoke the grasshopper so that he would come after me, thus buying Dafu more time to escape.

So I shouted loudly, "Catch me? You'd better have the ability. You think you can catch me by jumping around on the ground?"

I shouted loudly with a contemptuous tone, my meaning was very clear, and there was only one thing I wanted to do: provoke the grasshopper.

"That damned guy is about to die, and he's still so arrogant. I'd like to see what you're capable of. Go and catch that damned guy!" the leader grasshopper shouted angrily.

Success...

Sure enough, the grasshoppers around me rushed towards me, just like ancient warriors charging at me.

Facing that swift and ruthless grasshopper, I dared not be careless in the slightest, and used all my strength to avoid the danger it brought me.

I dodged one, and immediately a second one jumped and charged towards me.

I dared not be careless at all. While dodging the grasshoppers' pursuit, I tried to find a way to fly to one side.

At that moment, Dafu flew in the exact opposite direction from me, and now Dafu and I have completely parted ways.

But those grasshoppers still chased after me, so it seems that all that verbal sparring they did earlier wasn't for nothing.

When I saw the grasshoppers chasing after me, I knew my plan had succeeded.
