Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2

Chapter 73 Silly Baitian

Urged on by Dafu, we finally flew into the cabbage field. As soon as we entered, a chilly feeling made me extremely uncomfortable.

It felt like being targeted by a venomous snake, making me extremely uncomfortable.

I hadn't figured out why I had this feeling when suddenly a bee appeared not far ahead. Didn't this bee come in a while ago?

How come I'm still here? Is this cabbage patch really that hard to get through?

What could be inside this enormous maze? With that question in mind, I flew towards the location of the bee.

But before I could fly over, the bee flew forward for a while and disappeared into the cabbage field.

"What's going on? Why are there still bees?" I looked at the vanished bees with great confusion in my heart.

How come there are still bees after being inside for so long, and not far from the entrance? Is this really a huge maze?

"So what does the competition rules say this place is?" I asked, puzzled.

“A death maze,” Dafu explained from the side.

"You knew it was a maze? Then what was the purpose of eating those spicy strips before we came in?" I asked, speechless.

Eating that stuff seems to have absolutely nothing to do with getting into this maze, right?

"That's a tradition, a tradition passed down from generation to generation. It's like people going to a temple to burn incense; it doesn't have any real effect, it's just a way to seek comfort," Dafu explained to me.

Damn, I really have no reason to refute this explanation. Can I say it's a matter of faith?

Are spicy snacks their religion? Why don't they eat yogurt then? Is that also a matter of religion?

I shouldn't ask anything about faith, let alone say anything.

"Let's get going. Nobody can help us in this situation. Let's go." I grabbed Dafu and rushed forward.

Dafu, however, was sniffing something. It would fly for a while, then stop and sniff it for a bit, then fly for a while again and sniff it again.

"What are you doing?" I asked, looking at Dafu's strange behavior.

“The message to find our companions—we all leave our own unique messages. As long as one of us flies finds the right path, then we can get out too,” Daifu explained from the side.

"Will this work?" I asked, a little doubtful, as I watched Dafu sniffing so intently.

"It has some effect, but not much, because the farmers used some kind of black fertilizer in this cabbage field. It's a chemical fertilizer that volatilizes and turns to ash, and the pungent smell makes it almost impossible for us to smell our companions," Dafu said somewhat dejectedly.

But that's not the point. Wasn't Dafu a crosstalk performer before? Where did he learn those tongue twisters? When did he become so good at telling jokes like "black fertilizer volatilizes, turns to ash, and flies away"?

"Don't you have any other way besides smelling it?" I asked, quite frustrated.

Don't they know to look at the sun during the day and the North Star at night? Relying entirely on scent, what if they fall into a place with perfume? Wouldn't that just mean certain death?

"No," Dafu replied directly.

I rely on instinct, and instinct can sometimes save your life, and sometimes it can cost you your life.

In this cabbage field, how can those black, ash-colored fertilizers that evaporate and fly around in the air fly by if you're near your nose?

"Then come with me, I'll take you out," I said directly.

"Do you have a way?" Dafu asked expectantly.

"Of course, who am I? I'm a millionaire, there's nothing I can't do," I said arrogantly.

I'm a good person in every way, but I have one bad point: I like to show off. It's because I don't have any real talent that I like to pretend. Maybe that's a common problem for men.

"Really? I knew you were the best, Yimao Er. So what are you planning to do?" Dafu asked curiously.

"Don't ask so many questions, just follow me. You'll see when we get out of here," I said confidently.

This cabbage patch isn't difficult at all. It's just a cabbage patch, isn't it? It's not like one of those mazes in a park where you have to pay five yuan to enter. There are plenty of paths you can walk through.

It's just a little extra cabbage. I don't believe I can't fly out. Besides, if all else fails, I can use the sun in the sky to determine my direction, okay?

So I took the big fortune and flew towards the other side. I refused to believe that I, a modern human being, couldn't solve such a small problem.

Isn't this just like playing a game?

So I flew forward with great confidence. If I felt that the direction was wrong, I would check the position of the sun. Basically, I didn't need to smell anything or look for any odors.

We flew straight ahead without any obstacles. After flying for a few minutes, I felt that we had covered half the distance. In just a few more minutes, we would be able to fly over.

But what puzzles me is that we've been flying for so long, how come we haven't encountered a single other insect?

These two make sense. Even in the most lush cabbage field, you should encounter a few insects. Unless they came in early and all left.

I'll be the last one to run into them, but this is a maze! I don't believe that everyone who got out didn't get lost.

If everyone went out, Dafu wouldn't have had such a hard time finding the scent. So what's going on?

Thinking about this question immediately made me feel a little uneasy.

Is there some hidden danger here? Or is it a danger I haven't noticed?

The more I flew forward, the more uneasy I felt, so I quickly stopped flying forward.

"What's wrong? Why isn't it flying? Did we go the wrong way?" Dafu behind me asked, puzzled.

"It's not that we're going in the wrong direction, it's that we're oversimplifying things. Don't you feel it's too quiet?" I said slowly, looking around warily.

"Quiet? Isn't it always this quiet? Is there something wrong with it? This is supposed to be quiet here. It's not some kind of market." Dafu said, puzzled.

"When we rushed in earlier, did we see bees that had been there for a long time?" I asked.

“Yes,” Da replied.

"When we came in, were the other insects already in a few minutes before us?" I asked again.

“Yes,” Dafu replied, though he didn’t understand.

"If even bees can get lost and haven't made it out yet, how could they have gotten out so quickly, even though they were only a few minutes ahead of us? Besides, there were so many of them, how come we didn't see a single one? What does this mean?" I asked.

"What does that mean?" Dafu asked me, looking at me with a naive and innocent expression.
