Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2

Chapter 17 Interrogation by Blocking the Road

Just when I thought I was going to be burned to death, four earthworms suddenly crawled out of the ground and saved us.

These four earthworms were on a date, and then they ran into us. And this earthworm was one we had met before.

We were lucky to be rescued at the most crucial moment.

After the fire was extinguished, the four earthworms crawled away, saying they were going on a date, leaving only Dafu and me in the hole.

"Let's get going, there shouldn't be any danger now, right?" Dafu suggested as the four earthworms left.

"Okay, let's go. The sooner we get there, the sooner we'll be safe." I agreed with Dafu's idea.

So we slowly climbed up together, and once we got to the top, the fire was indeed extinguished. Because it was winter, it cooled down immediately after it was extinguished.

I quickly looked around and saw some lights not far ahead, which must have been extinguished by the wildfire that had been set out.

The surroundings returned to complete darkness, and it seemed there was no danger.

Thankfully, this is winter in the south; if it were in the north, we would freeze to death.

Dafu and I struggled to climb towards the big banyan tree at the village entrance, hoping we wouldn't encounter any more dangers along the way.

We climbed towards the big banyan tree at the village entrance with great effort. I don't know if my prayers worked or if my luck was on my side, but we didn't encounter any unexpected situations until we were almost there.

Seeing that we were almost at the big banyan tree, we quickened our pace and climbed towards it.

Just then, three huge blue worms suddenly darted out from the side. Those worms were at least twice my size, almost as big as Dafu.

As the three giant worms emerged, a small caterpillar followed behind them.

The moment I saw them, I felt like I was about to run for my life. Why did I have to run into them here of all times?

I was incredibly surprised to see several insects suddenly appear, but they seemed to be waiting for me, just quietly watching me.

"What's wrong, 12 cents?" Dafu, who was next to me, asked, noticing my nervous expression.

"No...nothing," I said guiltily.

"No wonder you didn't want to marry my little sister, so you have someone else outside." One of the large green caterpillars, who seemed to be the leader, said angrily.

Holy crap, what does it mean to have a boyfriend/girlfriend? I feel like crying right now. How did I end up with these damn guys?

"What's going on? Twelve cents?" Dafu asked curiously.

"Brother Mao, you... how could you treat me like this? What about what you said back then? I guided you on your path, so why didn't you come in?" The caterpillar behind the large green caterpillars said shyly.

The voice sounded exactly like a little girl being abandoned by her neighbor's older brother, as if she had done something wrong and he didn't want her anymore. It was very aggrieved and pitiful.

"I..." I really don't know what to say. What can I say? If I say it's all a misunderstanding, will the caterpillar believe me? Even if the caterpillar does believe me, will the three big green caterpillars next to him believe it?

"If you don't give my sister an explanation today, you won't be going anywhere tonight. This day next year will be your death anniversary," the leading green caterpillar said angrily.

"That's right, even if my sister forgives you, I will never forgive you." Just after the big green caterpillar finished speaking, a firefly suddenly appeared on its head.

"Speaking of which, we should thank this Miss Fire Dance. If it weren't for her, we wouldn't have known where you were. I never imagined you would risk so much to save her," the big green worm shouted angrily.

I wondered why this big green caterpillar was blocking our way. Turns out, a firefly had been watching us all along. It was named Fire Dance, such a nice name, how could it be so wicked?

"It's nothing, it's what I should do," the firefly named Fire Dance said modestly.

"Twenty-two cents, what's going on?" Dafu the maggot next to me exclaimed in frustration.

"This...this is all a misunderstanding," I could only explain to Dafu.

"Misunderstanding? You've confessed three times already, and you call it a misunderstanding? Three misunderstandings?" the big green caterpillar said unhappily from the side.

"Exactly, now you know what kind of maggot this guy is, right? A wicked maggot who starts something and then abandons it," Firefly Dance chimed in.

I honestly don't know how to explain myself to these people who are interrogating me. I was just a tool to survive, someone who randomly pulled a caterpillar as a temporary actor. I never expected to get into such big trouble.

I truly feel bitter inside.

"One cent and two cents, what exactly happened?" The maggot Dafu behind me, facing the enemy's questioning, still wanted to hear my answer.

"The rooster carried me away, and I thought I was going to die. But little did I know, the rooster was carrying me to the hen to express his love, which is how I survived," I had to explain.

"And then what? What does it have to do with the caterpillar?" Dafu asked, a little annoyed.

"But the hen rejected the rooster, so in order to survive, I had to negotiate with the rooster. If I could help him win over the hen, I could live," I said, feeling quite frustrated.

"And then?" Dafu asked.

Faced with Dafu's persistent questioning, I had no choice but to briefly recount what happened after the rooster caught me, and also tell the three big green caterpillars. So I began to tell them about my ordeal after being caught by the rooster:

After being caught in that attack, I thought I was doomed. But to my surprise, the rooster used me as a gift to pursue the hen. And to make matters worse, I was rejected.

In order to survive, I had no choice but to negotiate with the rooster. If I helped the rooster catch the hen, I could live.

But to my surprise, that rooster was a complete narcissist with absolutely no experience in pursuing anyone. I was instantly speechless. This is going to be the death of me!

Seeing that it was already dark, I decided to spend the night and deal with it tomorrow, since it wasn't something that could be resolved in a short time anyway.

After arriving at the rooster's coop, he placed me beside it and then went inside.

"You're not going to run away, are you?" the rooster asked worriedly after placing me next to the henhouse.

"How could that be? With my small body, how could I possibly escape your grasp?" I said immediately, afraid of offending the rooster.

"That's true. You'd better not try to escape. If I find out you're trying to run away, I'll eat you right away, without even giving you a chance to explain," the rooster said arrogantly.

After the rooster went into its nest, it started to sleep. I was also exhausted after a long day. The escape and fighting, plus the worry along the way, left me completely physically and mentally drained.

So after the rooster fell asleep, I also felt waves of drowsiness coming over me, so I closed my eyes and started to sleep next to the chicken coop.
