My Apocalypse: Infinite Rewinds

Chapter 9: On How to Coexist with Zombies

.

"Roar! (Life is what I desire, and so is dignity. If I cannot have both, I will give up life for dignity!)" The zombie roared with unwavering resolve, a testament to its resolute will and its tragic grandeur.

"Crack!"

The shattered glass, reflecting the sunlight, converged into countless narrow beams of light, forming the most dazzling and magnificent stage. The zombie leaped straight down with an extremely elegant posture, determined to prove its resolve with its life. Light as a feather, yet heavier than Mount Tai, it composed the most magnificent hymn of life with its own life—no, the most magnificent hymn of zombie life.

"No!!" Li Kai cried out in anguish, watching the falling zombie with a look of deep regret. "Why did you do this? Why did you have to do this to yourself?"

"Anyway, I can continue!" A strange smile appeared on Li Kai's lips again.

"Killing them so many times is getting boring. Shouldn't we think of something else?" Li Kai pondered, head down, now fully awake. "Brother, you've driven these zombies to suicide, and you're still not satisfied? If this keeps up, things are really going to break down."

"Tch, let it break down, it's none of my business!"

"Well, I have nothing to say."

“Right, how about we try taming a zombie?” Li Kai carefully recalled the theoretical experiments he had seen about zombies before, and suddenly had a flash of inspiration. “Just killing it is too boring. Let’s see if we can tame it like we tame a puppy.”

Well, this guy is probably the first person to try to tame a zombie like a dog.

"Roar!" The zombie that rushed into the room again was completely unaware that it had become a brand new test subject, even more unlucky than its previous self.

"Come on, little zombie, watch my hand gesture!" Li Kai looked at the zombie that appeared and happily pressed his hand down, meaning to make it sit down.

"Roar (Are you crazy?!)!" The zombie opened its mouth and lunged at Li Kai.

"What a disobedient zombie!" Li Kai sighed in frustration, looking at the zombie whose throat he had slit. "I'll have to start over."

Hey, what exactly do you think death is?

Huh? Death, what's that? Can you eat it?

"Good puppy, sit quietly and I'll give you candy." Li Kai soothed the zombie in front of him again, while also trying to tempt it with words. But he said it doesn't eat candy, and besides, he looked like a lecherous old man.

"Roar!" The zombie still followed its most primal instincts.

"Listen up, you bastard! If you dare to move again, I'll cut out your tongue!" Li Kai threatened the zombie in front of him fiercely.

"Roar!" The zombie fearlessly lunged at Li Kai.

"Alright, it seems this plan is completely unworkable. We need to change our strategy." After several failures, Li Kai finally realized that the zombies in front of him were untamable, so...

"As Sun Tzu once said, 'Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will never be defeated!' To defeat your opponent, you must understand them," Li Kai muttered to himself. "So, I should fully understand the anatomy of zombies so that I can better deal with the battles to come."

Why did he have to spout so many grand principles? As the saying goes, every action has a just cause. And what he'll do next... well, you know.

"I remember there was a rope here," Li Kai said as soon as he woke up, rummaging through his cupboard.

"I've got it! It's right here!" Persistence pays off. After a hard search, he slowly pulled out a steel cable several meters long.

"Hmm, it's sturdy enough!" Li Kai tugged at the rope with satisfaction. He wondered when he'd bought it. It seemed like...

A strange smile suddenly appeared in Li Kai's mind, startling him so much that he quickly shook his head. He seemed to have lost all memory of the rope. Could it be that he had amnesia?

"Never mind, none of that matters." Li Kai nonchalantly picked up the rope in his hand. Anyway, this kind of amnesia would occur from time to time, so it didn't matter. Hmm? Speaking of which, how did I know that?

"Well, none of that matters. Let's bring our main character in first!"

"Huh? (What's going on?)" The zombie looked at the ropes wrapped around it with great confusion, unable to break free at all.

"Stop struggling in vain. How could you possibly break free from this rope? I've tried it myself!" Li Kai smiled as he looked at the zombie he had bound tightly. Wait, did I try it? I don't remember.

As Li Kai used the rope, he suddenly felt a strange chill creep through his body. Where exactly were his memories missing? How much was missing? It was as if all his lost memories were related to one person.

"Never mind, now's not the time to think about that." After forcibly suppressing the thought, Li Kai focused his gaze on the zombies again. "Let's begin!"

"Roar? Roar!!" The zombie was puzzled at first, then looked at Li Kai in front of it in surprise. It could only hear heavy breathing and screams that sounded like it was dying coming from inside the house.

"Hmm, the muscle density is indeed more compact than that of a normal person. Although it has been corroded quite a bit, it still can't hide its advantages." Li Kai looked at a piece of flesh on the dagger and clicked his tongue in amazement.

"Let me see, the internal organs seem to still be functioning. I can feel the lungs and heart beating, but it's much slower than a human's. Could this reduce energy consumption?" Li Kai pried open the zombie's chest cavity and examined it closely, occasionally reaching out to touch it.

"The next question is, do zombies possess any sense of reason?" Li Kai focused his gaze on the zombie's head. "A normal human brain certainly does, but..."

"Roar!" Before Li Kai could proceed with his research, the zombie let out a final howl and then crashed into the wall, committing suicide.

"Seriously, you're already done before I'm even finished." Li Kai looked at the lifeless zombie with a troubled expression. Well, at least it's dead, so I can still do some research on it.

Uh, I suddenly feel really cold.

"Don't think this is the end, we're still a long way off!" As Li Kai tied up the zombie once again, a strange light suddenly appeared in his eyes.

I'm Li Kai. When killing this zombie no longer interested me, I suddenly discovered a new path. Unfortunately, the zombie's lifespan is too short. Couldn't it be longer? (ps: Looks like I have a talent for becoming an anatomist!)
