My Apocalypse: Infinite Rewinds

"Honestly, the smell in here is awful!" Furong frowned and covered her nose, the pungent, fishy odor swirling around her.

"It's okay, you'll get used to it soon," Li Jing said nonchalantly. "Humans are very adaptable anyway."

"Wow, Brother Jing is so knowledgeable! He knows all this!" Furong looked at him with admiration, her eyes sparkling.

"Hey, is this what you two are focusing on?" Li Kai, who had just walked in, listened to their conversation with a black line on his face. They really had no sense of crisis.

"Something's not right. It's eerily quiet here!" Xueying coldly observed her surroundings, her right hand unconsciously resting on the hilt of her sword.

"That makes sense. Logically speaking, if zombies really gathered together, they certainly wouldn't be hiding so well. Unless..." Li Jing's expression suddenly changed as he finished speaking.

With a pale face, Furong finished speaking her last words, "There are no zombies left here!"

"What do you mean?" Hearing the serious tone of the two men, Li Kai felt his heart skip a beat.

"When we came here the day before yesterday, weren't there still a lot of zombies here? Remember what I said? That monster can devour zombies, which means..."

"That guy ate everything that was left here!!" Li Kai exclaimed.

"Click click click!!" A crisp sound suddenly rang out in the dark theater, followed by a sudden burst of dazzling lights flashing across the previously dim stage, with the flashes of light simultaneously illuminating the same spot.

"What's with this light? My eyes hurt!" Li Kai cried out, covering his eyes which were still not adjusted.

"Things seem to have exceeded our expectations," Li Jing sighed softly, his tone filled with indescribable sorrow and helplessness.

"Hey, what are you talking about?!" Li Kai shouted in confusion.

"You'll understand once you open your eyes."

"Honestly, why is everyone's saying things with hidden meanings?" Li Kai muttered to himself. After his eyes had almost fully adjusted to the bright light, he slowly opened them, but the sight before him made him wish he hadn't.

"What kind of monster is this?!"

"Screech!!" A sharp screech instantly resounded throughout the theater, the constantly echoing sound waves crashing against everyone's eardrums like a tsunami, causing excruciating pain.

Its crystal-clear, blood-red eyes were flawless, as pure as crystal. Though all eyes were the same blood-red color, there were distinct differences. Sharp teeth held pieces of unswallowed flesh, its two front teeth protruding exceptionally. Its massive body occupied almost a third of the stage, its short limbs barely supporting its plump frame, yet the force embedded deep in the floor was not to be underestimated. Its slender, long tail swung casually behind it, occasionally whistling through the air.

"Damn that sound, and that appearance, is it really a rat?!" Li Kai shouted, covering his throbbing ears.

"Who knows? We could only see a general outline before, and it wasn't nearly this exaggerated at all," Li Jing shouted back, his ears nearly deafened by the scream.

"It seems we made a serious mistake. This thing doesn't necessarily feed on zombies; it evolves by devouring them." Hibiscus gazed at the enormous rat ahead with a complex expression. "When we found it, it was already close to evolving, and that's probably why it didn't continue chasing us."

"What's the use of discovering this now?" Li Kai looked helplessly at the mutated rat in front of him. He never expected that such a weak creature would become so terrifying.

"Furthermore, I have some unfortunate news to tell you: the chances of escaping are slim."

"What? What did you say?" Before Li Kai could finish speaking, a gust of wind howled past his ears, followed by a deafening roar.

"Holy crap, that's ruthless!" Looking at the exit behind him, now blocked by rubble, Li Kai swallowed hard. His IQ had suddenly increased so much!

"Squeak!" The mutated rat on the stage suddenly squeaked, its mocking eyes clearly indicating that it was just toying with the rat. Trying to run away? No way!

"Seriously? Do rats have to be this human-like?" Li Kai clearly understood this meaning from the mutated rat's eyes.

"I'm truly sorry, Brother Li, I'm afraid I've dragged you into this." Li Jing patted him on the shoulder, the meaning of which was clear:

"You've already prepared your last words before the fight even starts! Have some confidence!" Li Kai scolded angrily. "Momentum, momentum is very important!"

"That's true, but did you see what happened just now?" Li Jing pointed behind him and asked hesitantly.

"Uh, no!" Li Kai glanced awkwardly at the rubble behind him, only hearing a faint sound before it disappeared.

"If it attacks again, can you stop it?"

After hearing the question, Li Kai fell silent, speechless. It sounded like the guy in front of him was someone he couldn't fight at this stage.

Xueying stood quietly behind him, looking at the knife in her hand with a complicated expression.

After a long silence, Li Kai suddenly looked up into the distance and asked, "Even so, are we just going to sit here and wait to die?"

"Of course not, we should at least give it a shot!" Li Jing grinned and laughed heartily. "At least we fought back, didn't we?"

"Yeah, as long as I don't regret it, that's fine. Being afraid of death has never been in my nature." Li Kai rubbed his hair, looking ahead calmly. Death was nothing to him.

"I really can't do anything with you two," Furong said, rubbing her forehead in exasperation. Finally, she came to Li Jing's side. "I won't allow you to die first."

“Of course, we agreed on this a long time ago!” Li Jing put his arm around her waist and said softly.

"Then let's drive liberation!"

"Squeak?" The mutated rat looked at the flashing white light in front of it with a hint of interest in its eyes. The game was finally about to begin.

"These two are really eager, eagerly going to their deaths!" Li Kai sighed helplessly, watching the man and knife rush forward. "But we have to fight, even if it means dying!"

"But I'm truly sorry, Xueying, I'm afraid this time it will be..." Li Kai looked apologetically at the girl behind him. If he hadn't made the decision on his own, this wouldn't have happened.

"It's okay, I don't mind, and she won't mind either, because we believe in you!" Xueying's eyes were filled with tenderness. If it's you, you can definitely save us in the end!

"If you trust me so much, then let's go for it!" Li Kai shook off his previous dejection. If this time doesn't work, there's always next time. If next time doesn't work, there's always a bigger next time. At least for him, there's still a glimmer of hope.
