Defeat the system! Kiss my little monster!
Chapter 103 North Cemetery
No wonder the male insect with the golden diamond was willing to buy him. The female insect silently withdrew her gaze; with that female slave's bone structure, she could probably play with him for a long time after buying him.
The two insects walked quickly and soon disappeared from their sight. Near the entrance, the male insect swiped his gold card and then boarded the flying vehicle with the female slave.
“My lord, you just swiped three million from my card.” Morris took off his black robe, glanced at his personal terminal, and spoke.
Adrian was still setting the aircraft's direction. He entered the destination and sat down next to Morris.
"Only three million?" Adrian tossed the emerald in his hand. The gem was crystal clear, with bright, snowflake-like specks of light scattered throughout, bobbing up and down as the aircraft moved.
“I heard this is a divine stone, protected by the Insect God, it can cure diseases and ward off disasters, and wearing it will make you live hundreds of years longer.” Adrian said, his eyes crinkling. “I didn’t expect it to only cost three million, I’m really lucky.”
Morris's lips parted slightly and then closed again. Leaning against the window, he turned his head to one side and numbly praised, "My lord, you are truly fortunate."
This is just an ordinary emerald. All this talk about it being completely natural is ridiculous; it hasn't even undergone any real processing. Its biggest selling point is that it's stuffed with some useless specks of light to attract male insectoid customers. Only clueless insectoids would actually buy it.
"Three million?" Morris thought to himself. "What a sucker."
“Maurice, do you want it?” Adrian leaned closer, opened his hand, and the emerald gem landed in his palm. “I can give it to you.”
Morris: "..."
He had absolutely no interest in these gemstones and jewelry, especially since he had paid for the gemstone with his own card.
Maurice turned his gaze, and a pure green gem stood in Adrian's hand. The specks of light within floated down, seemingly overlapping for a fleeting moment with the color of Adrian's pupils.
It doesn't seem so useless after all.
“My lord, thank you, you are so generous.” Morris took the gem and stuffed it into his pocket, saying the usual platitudes.
That's three million.
“Wear it carefully, this kind of gem is quite rare,” Adrian instructed, before turning his gaze away from Maurice’s jacket pocket, his tone somewhat wistful, “I’ll come back here sometime and buy one for myself.”
Morris: "..."
“My lord, there are female soldiers guarding the North Cemetery. We landed near the forest in City A.” Morris opened his personal terminal and displayed the live map. “There’s a secret passage leading directly into the cemetery. Remember to stay close to me.”
Adrian saw the images flashing on the computer screen. Morris showed him the terrain inside the forest and circled the location where the secret passage was hidden.
Adrian glanced at Maurice midway through, and Maurice's expression remained unchanged as he spoke, as if he were simply carrying out a high-ranking mission.
Adrian saw this but did not ask any questions.
Morris's knowledge of the North Cemetery was so profound; he had even located the secret passage leading inside. This kind of information wasn't easily obtained even by the legion commander. Morris... might be plotting something in secret.
"Okay, I know."
Adrian's mask was still on, revealing small eyes and a flat nose, a completely different appearance from before. He gave the mask to Maurice, but decided to continue using the newly made mask himself.
The aircraft arrived at the forest near City A nearly four hours later. Adrian slept against Morris, waking up at 1:15 a.m.
The forest here was dense with old trees, vines climbing upwards, and layers upon layers of spider webs forming the tops. As Adrian walked through it, he could hear the low howls of some strange beasts in the distance.
Perhaps it is because of the presence of strange beasts that male and female insects rarely approach this area.
Adrian dared not speak, lest he disturb the herd of strange beasts gathered in the forest. Morris walked ahead of Adrian, slowing his pace and leading him slowly through the forest path, finally squeezing into a narrow cave.
Adrian was surrounded by darkness. The air had become thinner after entering the cave. He reached out and touched the side, finding it damp and sticky, with a strange, faint smell of rotting vegetation.
Adrian casually wiped his hands and continued following Morris. About ten minutes later, the pressure on Adrian's body suddenly eased, and his vision cleared.
“My lord, this is the outer layer of the imperial mausoleum. The innermost layer is the tomb of the insect emperors of all generations.”
Adrian looked around. The interior of the imperial tomb was far less luxurious and exquisite than that of the palace. The walls were gray and white, and the ancient torches were still used on them. The straw and fuel used for burning had long since turned to black dust.
Adrian didn't observe carefully. He and Maurice walked quickly through the passageway in the cemetery toward the tombs of the successive Insect Emperors.
In addition to the stone gate, another layer of new mechanical locks was installed outside the Insect Emperor's mausoleum. Morris stepped forward, skillfully entered the password, and a few seconds later, the mechanical lock opened automatically, and the stone gate moved back inward.
Adrian went inside and saw an old coffin.
The coffin was made of simple materials, just solid wood with a few long nails, and the exterior was not carved with any patterns related to royalty. Perhaps due to the long period of time and the damp air in the cemetery, the four corners of the coffin turned black, and the solid wood showed signs of rot.
“This is the late emperor’s coffin; it’s almost rotten,” Maurice said.
A musty, stale smell filled the air. Morris's gaze lingered on the coffin for a few seconds before turning to the other side: "The Insect Emperor is now building his own tomb. His coffin was only completed a few months ago and is inside."
Adrian shifted his gaze, somewhat surprised by the question: "He put his coffin here?"
The tombs of the insect emperors throughout history cover a vast area, at least fifty square kilometers. But the current insect emperor is willing to place his coffin in the same tomb as his predecessors.
Morris scoffed, "Who knows?"
Adrian walked down the corridor, and as he approached the wall, he heard faint sounds. They grew closer, carrying a language distinct from that of the Zerg.
