He spoke slowly and in great detail.

Tears welled up in his eyes again, and his voice began to choke. Several times he almost couldn't speak anymore, but he would pause for a moment before continuing.

The story is simple, yet it is anything but calming.

"This is horrible." Liang Qing's eyes were red. "How could there be such a despicable person? This kind of behavior is infuriating enough, let alone the fact that you were just a child at the time!"

“Liang Qing, you don’t understand.” Yan Su shook his head gently, tears welling up in his eyes. “What she saw was not a child, but a weak plaything.”

“There has never been just one ‘Yan Su’ in this world,” two lines of clear tears streamed down his beautiful face. “There are countless ‘Yan Su’s of different ages, genders, social classes, and races in this world who are suffering different degrees of harm in different regions. I am not the first, nor will I be the last.”

“But this is not right.” Liang Qing looked at Yan Su’s tears and felt a pang of sorrow in her heart.

He is indeed very handsome, even though he is crying right now, he is still very handsome.

If this appearance were portrayed by an actor on the big screen, it might be captivating.

But Yan Su wasn't a movie actor, and none of this was a performance. Liang Qing felt heartbroken after watching it.

“That’s not right,” Yan Su said. “I also think it’s wrong, but what’s the use?”

He suddenly grabbed Liang Qing's hand, staring intently at her. "After what happened, do you know what my father said to me? He said, 'She's still a beauty!'"

“She’s a beauty!” Yan Su said with a wry smile, “as if I should feel ‘honored’ about it.”

"It turns out my father looked down on me even earlier than anyone else, and I actually dared to expect him to seek justice for me!"

“My eldest brother advised me not to make a fuss, because it was disgraceful and would ruin me,” he continued. “He said, ‘Whether others believe it or not, you’re destined to become the subject of gossip. In our circle, no one will genuinely pity you, and even if they do, they won’t respect you. Don’t forget the kind of family we were born into; we’ve been marked by chaos since birth. Who would believe you can remain untainted? Besides, it was an attempted crime; the law can’t punish her. You and I both know what kind of person Father is, so don’t expect him to seek justice for you. For your own sake, you must keep quiet.’”

"Liang Qing, is this really wrong?"

“Of course.” Liang Qinghui grasped his hand, her eyes glistening with tears. “Of course it’s wrong.”

"Why am I the one who is insulted, the one who is hurt, and the one who should back down?" Yan Su's voice choked even more. "Did I really do something wrong? Should I not have greeted her out of respect for my elders, or should I not be pretty? Or is it because I am two-faced that God is punishing me?"

“Even if I’m not a good person, even if I’m guilty, what about those children who are so much younger than me? They’re still children without their own thoughts, unable to even take care of themselves. What did they do wrong?” He broke down in tears, lowering his head and resting it on Liang Qing’s shoulder, as if seeking a support to keep him from collapsing. “Why is the world like this?”

His questions bombarded Liang Qing's mind like thunderclaps, each one making her chest feel tight and suffocating.

She couldn't answer anything; she wanted to know the answer just like him.

The man who cried on her shoulder had been punishing himself for all these years for the mistakes of others. Others had built a cage for him, and he had locked himself in.

Where is the key...?

“No matter what, you are not wrong.” She patted his back gently and said firmly, “No matter what, no matter how many reasons there are, it is always a sin to lay a hand on innocent people.”

"Aren't you angry with me?" Yan Su looked up. "I was so good to you..."

“I am guilty.” Liang Qing interrupted him, forcing a smile as crystal tears slid down her cheeks. “Even though you always say you’re not a good person, I’ve never thought of you as a bad person.”

“You say you are hypocritical, which is bad, but I don’t think so. Hypocrisy is a form of backstabbing, but your hypocrisy has never harmed anyone. On the contrary, you have respected them and upheld their dignity.”

Her words surprised Yan Su, but almost simultaneously he felt a strange sensation, as if what she said was also reasonable.

Watching her tears fall to the ground like pearls, Yan Su felt as if his heart had been pricked by needles, a little painful, yet also like silk threads brushing against his skin, a little itchy.

When he came to his senses, his hand was already on her face, and he used his fingers to wipe away her tears. "You shouldn't speak for your enemy, nor should you shed tears for your enemy."

Liang Qing laughed and said, "Then why are you wiping away your enemy's tears? You're crying yourself."

He paused for a moment, then said, "Maybe tomorrow I'll realize this was a mistake."

He wiped away her tears with his palm. "Right now, I must be going crazy."

Liang Qing grasped his trembling hand and said earnestly, "No matter what happens in the future, I will never consider what I did or said tonight to be a mistake."

"Even if I still have to make that bet, do you still think so?" Yan Su looked at her deeply. "I think there are some things I should make clear to you first, otherwise when the time comes, you will not only regret sympathizing with me and comforting me tonight, but you will also wish you could just slap me twice right now."

He pulled his hand away from Liang Qing's, rubbed his face, wiped away his tears, and left her. He stood up from the ground and turned to look at the broken glass lying on the floor of the living room.

“Liang Qing, now that things have come to this, I have to admit to you that I do have different feelings for you, although I don’t know what they are yet. Perhaps it’s because you’re not as cold-blooded as I thought, or because you’ve saved me several times, or perhaps it’s because you’re comforting me now. I feel a sense of gratitude that makes it impossible for me to treat you the same way I used to.”

"But it's a fact that you toyed with their feelings. Even I can't tell whether what you're saying to me now is sincere or not. But I am indeed wavering because of this. I'm wavering about whether to let you go. However, wavering is not a certainty. Tonight I'm convinced that everything you said and did was a genuine desire to give up. Tomorrow, I might think you were faking it and the thought of taking revenge on you will resurface."

Do you understand this?

Liang Qing nodded. "I understand."

Even so, you won't regret it?
