Berserk: The Prophet

Chapter 17 Knife and Sword

“...That’s interesting.” Cardi didn’t deny it, a smile playing on his lips with interest.

With a roar, Green raised his greatsword and slashed at Cadi's waist.

"Clang!" The sound of weapons clashing rang out as Kadi skillfully used his military knife to deflect the force and parry. However, for a child, this level of strength was already quite impressive; ordinary soldiers only possessed this much power.

When his first strike failed, Green, seeking a desperate victory, thrust his weapon straight at Cardi's throat.

"Heh." The saber deftly deflected Green's sword again, sidestepping the greatsword that was just a hair's breadth away from touching him. The gap between the two was like a mountain. The saber, like a water snake, smoothly slashed Green's arm, almost easily cutting through Green's throat, causing blood to flow freely.

"Not bad, kid." Kadi's eyes showed even more approval; he was determined to have this child.

hateful! !

Green had no choice but to retreat to a safer position to avoid further harm, pointing his sword at Cardi in case of a sudden attack.

“Interesting, kid. I don’t want to let you go so easily.” Kadi looked at Green with more admiration. It was rare for such a young child to have such abilities.

"Stop talking!!"

Green swung his sword again, and Cardi clearly wanted to tease him. His seemingly easy response left Green with one sword wound after another.

"You bastard!!!" Seeing the other person toying with him like a cat, Green was inexplicably furious. Was a 6-year-old child really too weak?!

"Heh, still not admitting defeat, kid?"

"You're dreaming!!!"

"Ping! Ping! Pong!"

After a few exchanges, Green had already sustained more cuts, staining his body and arms red, but he still refused to admit defeat.

"You're too slow." Cardi looked at Green, whose attacks were becoming increasingly ineffective, and his eyes became somewhat lazy.

Green hadn't touched Cardi at all, which was enough to illustrate the gap between the two. Green didn't answer, but his determined gaze showed that he refused to give in.

"That's about it."

Cardi's lazy gaze instantly turned sharp. With just a few thrusts and a few sword strikes, Green was completely defenseless. The muscles in his thigh, arm, and armpit were all pierced. The last sword even pierced through Green's left collarbone, and with a sudden lunge, he pinned him to the wall.

"Ugh!!!"

Green gripped Cady's blade tightly with his right hand in pain, though this did not stop the blade from moving, but only helped to reduce the pain caused by his own weight.

"Bang!"

His arm was ice-cold from the loss of blood, and the intense pain from having his collarbone pierced through it was so intense that Green could no longer hold the heavy greatsword in his hand, and it slipped from his grasp onto the cobblestone street.

Green had no choice but to grip the back of the sword tightly with both hands, grimacing as he endured the pain, and glaring fiercely at Kadi.

"You lost." Kadi sneered contemptuously as he drew his military knife, flicked off the blood, and sheathed it.

With no strength in his legs, Green slowly slumped to the corner of the wall, letting out a muffled groan of pain.

"Boss..."

Bazso was so frightened that his legs seemed to be stuck to one side, and he didn't move an inch. Despite being terrified, when he saw Green's miserable state, he still rushed over to check on Green and prepared to plead for him.

“You’ve done quite well to this extent. Work under me.” Kadi’s gaze scrutinized him.

Green just stared at him fiercely, whether from pain or resentment, it was hard to tell. At least for now, it seemed the life-or-death issue was resolved, but that contemptuous look in his eyes was really unpleasant!

We'll defeat him one day!!

As if reading the meaning in Green's eyes, Cardi gave a disdainful sneer and stepped on Green's wound.

"Heh, you want to defeat me? Train for another twenty or thirty years. Choose: work for me or die."

“Hmm!!”

The pain of the wound was magnified instantly, making Green realize the gap between them in an instant.

Without a doubt, if she wants to survive, she has to rely on the man in front of her!

"...I will follow you!!"

"...a wise choice."

Kadi moved his foot away. If Green had hesitated even slightly, the knife might have been drawn again and he would never have had a chance to live.

"Now, get back to where you were, and you better not keep me waiting too long." Cardi glanced at Green, then turned and strode back into the tavern, leaving only his back view, completely unconcerned about the two men's fate.

Green covered his bleeding wound, his resentment turning into unwillingness. He could only force himself to stand up. Gambino had also left this kind of wound on his body, but it had never been pierced by a nail.

"Boss... how about I carry you on my back?"

"Need not."

Green firmly rejected Bazso's offer, his eyes filled with self-mockery. Despite his tragic past and two lifetimes as an orphan, his will to survive remained so strong.

It really does have... a tenacious vitality...

..................

As dawn broke, the sun rose again from the east, peeking out from the horizon. When I returned to the tavern, the sun was already up, shining on the morning city of Wyndam, and a new day had begun.

While enjoying his breakfast, Kadi watched the two people downstairs return, then went back to his own business, planning to settle his subordinates in the next few days.

............

With the help of Bazso, Green tore off some fabric and gave his wound a quick treatment. It seemed he would have to sleep in the stables for the time being.

Perhaps it was because he had lost too much blood, but he felt a little dizzy and tired, so Green decided to take a short rest.

Bazso was so frightened that he couldn't lie down anymore, so he took the initiative to feed the horses to ease his tension.

It will take four days. Green felt a little helpless. He should try to heal for a longer period next time, otherwise he won't be able to fight at all if something happens.

I've been stuck at level 19 for almost a year now. Once my injuries heal, I should find something to do. Being able to open the Trial Realm only once a day is just too slow.

The best way to improve is through the arena. If you're lucky, you might even win a prize. But things might not be the same here as in the game. I don't know how dangerous it is. Maybe I should ask around. It's not a good idea to just sit around doing nothing.

As my thoughts drifted away, drowsiness crept in, and my physical exhaustion desperately needed sleep to replenish it. Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep...
