Berserk: The Prophet

Chapter 16 Alive!!

............

It's a beautiful night, with a bright moon and few stars. I'm lucky; the hotel rooftop is a good place to climb, and the large black cloak is enough to cover myself and sleep in.

Although you can't eat all the lamb chops you want, having them with bread is a good option.

He casually tossed the empty ribs onto the ground where no one was around, wiped his greasy hands with his cloak, took a big gulp of water, and instantly felt incredibly refreshed.

"It would be even better if a beautiful woman were with me," Green thought happily, as he pulled out the dolls he had stored in his storage space.

That little girl has such beautiful, deep blue eyes and those phoenix eyes that seem to hold a hint of annoyance. Her little mouth is also so pink and tender. She'll definitely grow up to be a stunning beauty, one in a million!

It really does have a bit of an exotic feel to it. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what she'll be like when she grows up. Will she end up searching for me all over the city because of this doll?

Grimm stared at the doll, lost in thought, and suddenly pink bubbles popped into his head, a straight man of over twenty years.

Bazso shook his head at Green, who was still in a daze, and began to lay out straw to make do for the night; he couldn't possibly climb up to such a high roof.

"Hiccup~, behave yourself, and I'll find you a good place to go."

Shiva's drunken voice came from inside the house. His large, rough hands gripped the girl's thin arm as if they would break it if he pulled too hard. The girl seemed to be in pain from his grip and cried softly, staggering along as if she might fall at any moment.

Perhaps out of extreme fear or a sense of her impending doom, the little girl bit Shiva's hand.

"You son of a bitch, you dare bite me?!"

Shiva yanked the girl to the ground and kicked her hard. The little girl immediately curled up and trembled in pain. Then Shiva grabbed her again and carried her away.

"Haha, not bad at all! Okay Shiva, if your face is all smudged, you won't get a good price..." another person in the group joked.

The empty streets were unmanaged. After all, it was just a city area, not a royal castle. Apart from the guards at the gates and on the walls, the chaos on the streets was left unchecked at night. Every household would close their doors tightly at night, fearing that they might invite disaster.

Looking at the commotion below, a hint of disgust flashed in Green's eyes. He knew without a doubt where the little girl was going to be taken. Although they hadn't spent much time together, this kind of shameless behavior still disgusted Green.

However, it seems that only Shiva and one other person came out tonight.

Green put the items back into his spatial storage, made some simple arrangements, and quietly climbed off the roof to scout out the situation.

"Boss, why did you come down here?" Bazso was puzzled. In fact, as a traveling merchant family, they rarely meddle in other people's business, so this kind of thing was not surprising.

“Go and see. If they ask, just say I slept on the roof.” Green pointed to the cloak left in a corner of the roof, and a pillow that had been stuffed inside, disguised as Green lying down.

“Boss…” Bazzo was about to try to persuade Green, but Green had already disappeared.

Green had already scouted out the group's movements when he jumped off the roof. They were all quite drunk and were probably going back to rest.

Tonight is a great opportunity to get rid of Shiva!

.........

Green secretly followed them to a brothel, which was only one street away from the tavern, and could only feel regret and disappointment.

In those days, taverns were filled with desperate men who made their living from the war, and not far from the taverns were brothels to cater to their pleasures.

This time is already very late for ordinary people, but for those who do these sex trades, the nightlife is just beginning.

"Oh, strong customer, what brings a child to the brothel?"

"Hahaha, Mua, give me a kiss~ Little beauty~" Shiva started to greasyly approach the prostitute at the door as soon as he saw a woman.

"Oh, how annoying! You have to charge people to keep you company!" the woman said, pretending to push him away.

"Hahaha, I'm coming to keep you company~, but first I have to sell this child..."

"Then let's inspect the goods..."

The two voices gradually faded into the house; it seemed too late to save the little girl, but Green wasn't going to let this opportunity slip by. He planned to wait for them to come out—maybe they would? Green didn't want to miss any chance.

They really are two lecherous bastards. No one else comes here looking for women, only these two are regulars.

Green had been squatting there for almost three hours, and it was already one or two in the morning. The red-light district was about to close, so he could only curse his bad luck and head home.

.........

Lying on the roof, Green carefully considered the pros and cons of staying there. Tomorrow, their fate probably wouldn't be much better. Once their messengers assigned them to various positions, where would Green and his companion be? Perhaps they would be silenced for knowing something about their plans.

Feeling increasingly uneasy, Green packed his bags again, ready to flee. He hadn't found an opportunity to strike tonight; with the scumbag Sivana and Cardi's caution, the two of them had no chance of survival.

Even if they weren't sold, once they contacted their respective informants, they wouldn't have anywhere to stay. The outcome was predictable. A terrifying thought crossed their minds: perhaps they never intended to leave any survivors!

Green put the items into his spatial storage, which strengthened his resolve to run away. He then woke up Bazso.

"Wake up! Let's go! They sold that girl today, and tomorrow will be the day we both die!"

Bazso, who had just woken up, was a little confused by what he heard. After all, he was only 9 years old in mind. Even though he grew up in a merchant family, he still lacked experience and could not see some of the most important things clearly.

At first, they kept saying that nothing would happen to the boy, but after Green explained the consequences, they suddenly realized what was going on and broke out in a cold sweat.

The two children packed their bags and ran into the depths of the alley, hurrying away from this place of trouble.

..................

Where are you going?

A cold male voice rang out from behind, and the two running children trembled instantly.

It's Cardi!!

Green immediately drew his sword and looked back warily; the man had just come out of the alley.

What's he doing here?! Didn't he go drinking tonight? Green pondered carefully.

"!!!" Yes, thinking back carefully, there really wasn't a trace of Cardi tonight.

Kadi watched as Green, a little boy, dared to point a sword at him, feeling both admiration and displeasure.

"Why are you running?" Kadi drew his saber. This kid was really interesting.

"Because I want to live!!"
