The richest man's parents were kidnapped, and his adorable son captivated the entire family.
Chapter 463 has changed.
In the following days, Xie Yumin was busy with various affairs of "Starry Home", while Mengmeng was often nowhere to be seen.
At first, Xie Yumin thought that Mengmeng was just playing with other children in the activity room. However, on the afternoon of the third day, she accidentally discovered that Mengmeng had secretly slipped into Xingxing's room.
Xie Yumin quietly followed, and through the half-open door, she saw Mengmeng sitting on the floor some distance from Xingxing's hospital bed, drawing.
“Today I drew a kitten,” Mengmeng whispered, her eyes not looking at the stars, as if she were talking to herself, “It has three different colored paws because…because I think that’s special.”
Xingxing leaned against the headboard, staring blankly out the window, seemingly not listening, but Xie Yumin keenly noticed that his fingers moved slightly on the sheet.
“Mom said everyone is special,” Mengmeng continued, then picked up another piece of paper, “Just like your name is Xingxing (Star), you must be as special as the stars in the sky.”
As she spoke, she finished drawing a rainbow, carefully pushed it to the side of the star bed, and then stood up. "I'm going to have lunch now. This is for you."
After Mengmeng left, Xie Yumin saw Xingxing's gaze slowly shift to the painting. He stretched out his thin fingers and gently touched the colored lines on the paper, then quickly withdrew his hand as if he had been burned.
That night, Mengmeng was unusually quiet at the dinner table.
"How did you get along with the stars today?" Xie Yumin asked tentatively.
Mengmeng's eyes lit up instantly upon hearing this. "Mom, you know?"
At this point, she lowered her head somewhat shyly, "I just...don't want to see him alone."
Xie Yumin reached out and stroked Mengmeng's hair, a relieved smile appearing on her face: "Mommy didn't mean to blame you, but you must remember that Xingxing's situation is special, and you must be accompanied by an adult when you go to see him, okay?"
“But…Aunt Lin said Xingxing is afraid of adults,” Mengmeng looked up, her eyes sparkling with understanding and seriousness beyond her years, “He was hurt by bad people before, so he doesn’t trust adults.”
Xie Yumin felt a pang of anxiety upon hearing this. She hadn't expected Mengmeng to know so much; no wonder Xingxing reacted so strongly to the caregivers.
"How about this then?" Xie Yumin thought for a moment, then spoke again, offering a good solution.
"You can go see the stars, but you must tell Mom or Aunt Lin, and you can't get too close, okay?"
Mengmeng nodded vigorously, a bright smile spreading across her face. Then she reached out and hugged Xie Yumin tightly: "Thank you, Mom! Today I saw Xingxing touch the drawing I gave him! Even though it was just a little bit, I think he likes it!"
Seeing her daughter's excited expression, Xie Yumin felt both gratified and worried. She knew that Mengmeng was trying to heal the wounded boy in her own way, but the road was destined to be bumpy. However, as long as Mengmeng was happy, that was all that mattered.
The next morning, Xie Yumin found that Mengmeng got up early and was picking wildflowers in the garden. She selected a few of the most bright daisies and carefully tied them into a bunch with ribbon.
"For Xingxing?" Xie Yumin asked with a smile after seeing this scene.
Mengmeng nodded and answered without hesitation, "Aunt Lin said Xingxing is feeling better today and can accept the little gift."
Xie Yumin straightened her daughter's collar and watched her skip and hop towards Xingxing's room. A warm feeling welled up in her heart. This little girl, who had experienced so much suffering, was now able to give such pure love to another wounded soul.
Around noon, Xie Yumin was processing documents in her office when Dr. Lin knocked on the door and came in.
"Ms. Xie, I'd like to talk to you about Mengmeng and Xingxing." Dr. Lin's expression was somewhat complicated, but she still spoke up.
Xie Yumin immediately put down her pen and asked with a hint of doubt, "What went wrong?"
"No, quite the opposite." Dr. Lin sat down, his eyes filled with disbelief, before speaking.
"Xingxing ate lunch on his own today, and... he accepted Mengmeng's flowers and has been looking at them on his bedside table ever since."
Xie Yumin breathed a sigh of relief, smiled, and replied with emotion, "Mengmeng is very happy to be able to help him."
“The problem is,” Dr. Lin hesitated for a moment before speaking again.
“Xingxing’s situation is complicated. His autism is accompanied by post-traumatic stress disorder, and the treatment process may have relapses. I’m worried that if Xingxing suddenly shuts himself off again, or even hurts Mengmeng…”
Xie Yumin understood Dr. Lin's concerns; as a mother, she was naturally worried about Mengmeng's safety.
But as the head of "Starry Home", she also believes that every child deserves to be cared for.
"I will have a good talk with Mengmeng," Xie Yumin finally replied after a moment's thought.
"But I don't intend to stop her. If she can become a bridge reconnecting the stars with the world, I think we should support her, while taking necessary precautions."
Dr. Lin agreed, nodding in agreement. "You're right. I'll arrange for nursing staff to keep them under observation without disturbing them."
After dinner that evening, Xie Yumin and Mengmeng sat on a bench under a cherry blossom tree. The late spring breeze, carrying the fragrance of flowers, gently brushed against their faces.
"Thank you, Mom! Xingxing said something to me today!" Mengmeng announced excitedly, her little face flushed with surprise in the sunset.
Xie Yumin raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Really? What did he say?"
I said, 'Star, doesn't this flower look like a star in the sky?' Then he whispered, 'No.'"
Mengmeng imitated Xingxing's hoarse voice, then giggled, "Even though he said it didn't sound like him, he kept looking at those flowers!"
Xie Yumin hugged her daughter tightly, her heart filled with pride.
Two weeks ago, Xingxing was a child who was completely closed off in his own world, but now, thanks to Mengmeng's patience and kindness, he has begun to respond.
“You know what, baby,” Xie Yumin sighed slightly, then spoke softly.
"Your father helped a special friend when he was a child, and he'll be very proud to see you like this now."
Mengmeng nestled in Xie Yumin's arms, looking up at the darkening sky. "I hope the stars get better soon, so we can see the real stars together."
Cherry blossom petals drifted down in the wind, gently covering the mother and daughter.
Xie Yumin unconsciously hugged Mengmeng even tighter, as if protecting her in this way.
They are already very happy with their lives, so they hope to help more people.
Xie Yumin knew that the road ahead was still long and Xingxing's recovery would not be smooth sailing, but for now, it was enough that she could make progress slowly.
