The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 69 Everything is fine
They arrived at the park next to the college, the same park where they had met Meraton once before.
The sun was shining brightly, the grass was lush and green, and there was plenty of open space to run around, which was what her sisters were doing.
Tina chased after one of Trinity's clones, panting, her arms outstretched as if that would help her catch her newest little sister.
However, Trinity is very fast, so Teddy thinks Tina doesn't have much of a chance of winning.
She was tempted to join in, but as the eldest and most reliable older sister, her responsibility was to look after the others.
Moreover, the eldest sister, Sienna, was sitting on a park bench, leaning forward, her phone dangling between her knees.
She looked as if she was deep in thought.
Teddy quietly moved next to Sienna, then with his back to the bench, he jumped back and sat down next to the boss.
Sienna looked at her for a while, her lips slightly upturned, forcing a smile, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.
"Are you alright, boss?" Teddy asked.
“I’m fine,” Sienna said.
Seeing the eldest brother staring down at the ground again, Teddy pouted.
Her sisters were still playing and having fun.
Athena pinned one of Trinity's clones to the ground, tickling her to make her beg for mercy while letting out that signature villainous laugh.
The raccoon girl's other two clones were laughing so hard they were doubled over, that she couldn't run to rescue her third clone who was writhing and struggling on the grass.
Teddy turned his attention back to the eldest brother, who was clearly in a bad mood.
So she stretched out her arm and began to gently pat Sienna's head.
"Okay, okay," she said.
"Uh, what are you doing?"
Teddy continued patting the eldest's head, "To make you feel better."
Sienna sighed, but it was a sigh tinged with amusement, as this was fine. Then, she put an arm around Teddy and pulled her closer.
The hug was a little strange; Teddy had one arm outstretched because there was nowhere else to put it, but she didn't think it mattered.
The boss took the initiative to hug her, so the situation shouldn't be too bad.
"Thanks, Teddy, you're so kind."
Teddy became smug. "Of course, that's my specialty. Making sure the boss is happy and stuff like that."
Sienna smiled, then began gently stroking Teddy's back in circular motions. "Would you mind if I talked for a bit?"
“I don’t mind,” Teddy said. “What do you want to complain about?”
As for吐槽 (tu cao, meaning to criticize or ridicule), it's a long-standing tradition for all kinds of villains; lengthy monologues are also quite common.
“It’s not exactly a complaint,” Sienna said, “it’s just…the news about Simont is making me uneasy. Of course I don’t trust him; he’s a villain, or pretty much a villain. That might sound contradictory.”
Teddy didn't find it contradictory. It's perfectly normal for villains to distrust other villains most of the time.
“I think the Secret Society has a bigger problem with Biment, and he’s basically giving us information about them for free…if he’s telling the truth.”
"Do you think he's lying?" Teddy asked.
Lying to your boss is an extremely, extremely bad thing.
Only the younger sisters are occasionally allowed to do that, and even they risk being disappointed by the eldest sister if they lie.
“I think it would be best for him if we stopped interfering with his plans,” Sienna said. “But… I’m not sure. Let’s just call it intuition? There’s a voice inside me telling me that he’s telling the truth, or at least most of it.”
“We could send one of Trinity’s clones to check if it’s a trap. If it is, she can tell us so that someone important won’t get hurt,” Teddy said. She was quite pleased with the idea, thinking it was ingenious.
The "eldest brother" shook his head. "I don't want to sacrifice one of my sisters, Teddy, on a whim, even though Trinity has a rather interesting connection to the concept of death."
Teddy shrugged.
Finally, Sienna stopped stroking Teddy's back and started fiddling with her phone. She first checked her text messages; there were a bunch of messages from her mother… who was also the "big boss," that she hadn't replied to yet.
The eldest sister read text messages so fast that even Teddy couldn't keep up. Then she sighed, returned to the home screen of her phone, and opened a news app.
Before long, Teddy got a little bored.
Sitting next to the boss is nice, but it's not so fun when the boss isn't paying much attention to her, and everyone else seems to be having a lot of fun.
Trinity pinned Athena to the ground and tickled her, while Athena kicked and punched, giggling incessantly.
Then, Sienna gasped, startling Teddy.
She looked around but didn't see anything wrong until she looked at the "boss's" phone and read the article that the "boss" had happened to see.
The local mystery villain "Syment" has been captured by the charismatic Supergirl and Silver Fox!
Around noon today, the brave and fearless new hero Gramazon and local celebrity Silver Fox teamed up to capture a villain known only as "Syment".
Simon is an active yet low-profile villain who has been operating in E. Clair for over a year, primarily dealing with white-collar crimes, but he is suspected of organizing and leading a drug smuggling and trafficking ring operating in the city center.
The operation was carried out after a brief but decisive battle on Yushu Street, which rendered parts of the street unusable.
"He's been arrested."
"It seems so," Teddy replied. Then he certainly wouldn't be considered a very powerful villain.
Sienna suddenly stood up. “So he’s telling the truth, at least…part of it. Teddy, we might have to go check out that house he mentioned, before the police and the others get here.”
"Oh?" Teddy asked, "But we're not wearing uniforms."
Sienna nodded. “You’re right. Let’s go home and pack some things before we leave.” She put her hand to her mouth and called out, “Girls! Tina, Trinity, come here.”
The others stopped playing around and ran over. Trinity looked radiant and happy, even though one of her six eyes had a dark spot around its socket and her clothes were a little wrinkled.
Athena, however, looked displeased.
Sienna didn't seem to care much, but Teddy didn't say anything.
If she's allowed to do as she pleases and doesn't have to look after her younger sisters, she'll join in the roughhousing.
“Alright,” Sienna said, “we need to get home quickly.”
"What happened?" Athena asked.
"The villain who contacted me? He was arrested today, probably right after he called me."
He gave me a location, saying there were some things there I might need. I was going to ignore it, but now that he's been arrested, I think the information probably isn't false.
“So we’re going to sneak over and grab something,” Athena concluded. “I can go; I’m really good at sneaking around.”
“I’m better at sneaking around,” Trinity said.
"No way!"
“Girls,” the leader said sternly, and Trinity and Athena both shrank back, “this is not the time to argue about this.”
There will be plenty of time to test your...sneaky skills later. Now, we need to get home as soon as possible.
Everyone agreed; Teddy knew Trinity was looking forward to wearing her new uniform.
However, Teddy was still wondering if he could stop by that donut shop on his way home.
Sienna nodded and headed toward the park exit, with all her sisters jogging after her. To Teddy, she seemed eager to make a move.
This is actually pretty cool. The boss is really starting to look like a boss, becoming more and more... boss-like, and much scarier than before.
Teddy imagined that in a few weeks, his boss would be a force to be reckoned with across the country, or at least in this city.
She couldn't wait—it was going to be really interesting!
"Hey boss, can we go to that coffee shop?"
"No, Teddy, we're in a hurry."
"And what about on the way back?"
"I...we'll see. It depends on what we find out."
Teddy and her sisters exchanged smiles, silently conveying a message to each other.
First, they must do their best to assist the leader, because they are all good sisters.
Then they get their reward: snacks, hugs, and a good night's sleep.
