Chapter 220 Who's in the Shadows?
Sienna and the others hid behind a pile of abandoned machinery, barely daring to breathe. They exchanged glances, seeing tension and determination in each other's eyes. Sienna gestured for everyone to hold back and listen.
“This ‘final outcome’ event is the key to our Shadow Council’s years of planning. The bigwigs above are all waiting to see the results, and every step must be executed flawlessly.” A deep male voice came from not far away, his tone ruthless and undeniable.
“But those girls have been investigating too aggressively lately. If this continues, they might ruin our plans.” Another slightly anxious voice responded, its tone full of worry.
"What's there to be afraid of? They're just a few ignorant girls. We're in the shadows, they're in the light. As long as we're careful, they can't cause any trouble." The deep male voice rang out again, full of disdain.
Sienna clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms, her heart burning with rage. She secretly vowed to make the Shadow Council pay a heavy price for their actions.
Just then, footsteps approached their hiding place. The sisters immediately tensed, their muscles taut, ready for battle at any moment. Sienna gave Maple a wink, and Maple understood, silently pulling a small mechanical device from her waist. This was a jammer she had painstakingly invented, specifically designed to counter various electronic devices; it was their secret weapon in times of crisis.
As the footsteps drew closer, each one felt like a blow to everyone's heartbeat. Maple Leaf decisively pressed the jammer button. In an instant, the lights throughout the factory flickered wildly, as if they might go out at any moment, and the roar of the machines became chaotic, sharp, and piercing, like the howls of wounded beasts. The mysterious man was clearly startled by this sudden turn of events; he stopped abruptly, his body instinctively adopting a defensive stance.
Taking advantage of the moment, Sienna led her sisters out of their hiding place like cheetahs. Before the mysterious man could react, Athena kicked him to the ground with lightning speed, letting out a muffled groan.
"Tell me, what exactly is your Shadow Council's 'Endgame' plan?" Sienna glared at the mysterious figure on the ground and demanded in a loud voice, her voice carrying an undeniable authority.
The mysterious man snorted coldly, his lips tightly pressed together, his face filled with stubbornness and disdain, as if mocking Sienna and the others' naivety. Seeing this, Teddy could no longer suppress his anger. He strode forward, grabbed the mysterious man by the collar, and lifted him up by the waist: "You'd better be sensible and confess honestly, or you'll regret it!"
The mysterious man remained silent, a hint of mockery in his eyes, as if to say they wouldn't get anything useful out of him. Sienna knew it would be difficult to pry any valuable information out of this stubborn man. She nodded to her sisters, signaling them to continue searching for clues in the factory.
They searched the factory meticulously, leaving no corner unchecked. Finally, they discovered a secret room in a hidden corner. The door to the room was tightly closed, secured by a dauntingly complex combination lock. Maple Leaf approached the door, crouched down, and carefully examined the lock. Her eyes revealed focus and expertise; she quickly noticed some strange symbols on the lock, somewhat similar to those on the vault key she had seen earlier.
Maple Leaf's heart raced; she knew this might be the key to solving the mystery. She took a deep breath to calm herself, then took out the various tools she carried with her from her backpack and began trying to crack the combination lock. Time ticked by, each second feeling like torture. Finally, after Maple Leaf's relentless efforts, the combination lock rang out with a crisp sound, the door slowly opened, and an ancient and mysterious aura wafted out.
The secret room contained high-tech equipment that gleamed with a cold metallic sheen, and several documents were neatly arranged on the table. Sienna strode over, picked up a document, and saw the words "Endgame Project" prominently displayed on it. Her hand trembled slightly as she eagerly opened the document and began to read.
It turns out that the Shadow Council had been secretly researching a terrifying weapon capable of controlling people's minds. They planned to use this weapon to control all the citizens of Auclair during the "Endgame" event, thereby achieving their evil goal of controlling the entire city and turning Auclair into their private domain, where they could do whatever they wanted.
"How outrageous! We absolutely cannot let their plot succeed!" Sienna roared angrily, her voice echoing in the secret room, filled with determination and resolve.
Just then, a sharp alarm suddenly blared in the factory, shattering the tense silence. It turned out that the Shadow Council had discovered their presence and were rapidly approaching.
"There's no time! We have to get out of here as soon as possible!" Sienna shouted, her voice tinged with anxiety.
The sisters quickly evacuated the secret chamber and rushed towards the factory's exit. However, when they arrived at the exit, they found that the Shadow Council members had already surrounded it completely, like a pack of wolves cornering their prey.
"It seems we're doomed today," Athena said with a wry smile, but there was no fear on her face.
"That's not necessarily true!" A determined glint flashed in Sienna's eyes, like a star in a cold night. "We'll fight them!"
With that, she charged towards the enemy, like a sharp blade piercing through the ranks. Her sisters, not to be outdone, joined the battle. The fight was incredibly fierce; both sides fought with all their might, each attack and defense imbued with the spirit of a life-or-death struggle. Although the Shadow Council outnumbered the enemy, Sienna and her companions, with their tenacious fighting spirit and exceptional combat skills, held their own for a time, moving freely through the enemy ranks and making them difficult to defend against.
During the battle, Sienna keenly noticed that the members of the Shadow Council seemed to be under some kind of control. Their movements were mechanical and stiff, their eyes devoid of any emotion, like manipulated puppets. She immediately realized that this must be the mind-controlling weapon they were researching working on.
Sienna decided to find a way to break the control before defeating the enemy. While fighting, she intently observed their patterns of movement. Finally, in the heat of battle, she discovered a weakness.
She seized her opportunity and charged like lightning towards a leader of the Shadow Council. This leader exuded a peculiar aura, clearly a key figure controlling the others. Defeating him might break this terrifying control.
Seeing Sienna rushing towards him, the leader of the Shadow Council quickly raised his weapon to defend himself, his movements practiced and ruthless. Sienna skillfully dodged his attack, her body spinning with fluid grace, and then delivered a beautiful spinning kick that whistled through the air, sending him crashing to the ground.
Just then, a flash of light appeared on the Shadow Council leader. Sienna looked closely and saw a small device hanging on his chest, emitting an eerie blue light. It was this device that was controlling the others.
Sienna rushed forward without hesitation and ripped the device off. Instantly, the Shadow Council members stopped attacking, their eyes returning to normal, their faces showing confusion, as if waking from a nightmare.
"What... what's going on?" a member of the Shadow Council asked, his voice full of confusion.
Sienna ignored them and led her sisters away from the factory quickly. They knew the Shadow Council would not let this go, and they had to find a way to stop their "Endgame" plan as soon as possible, otherwise the entire city of Auclair would be doomed.
Back at Isabella's house, the sisters sat together, the atmosphere heavy. Everyone looked exhausted, but their eyes held a resolute determination.
“We must find this weapon of mind control as soon as possible and then destroy it,” Sienna said, her tone resolute.
“But we have no idea where this weapon is,” Teddy said, frowning with worry.
“I think the Shadow Council headquarters must know,” Athena said after a moment of contemplation. “We can start by investigating their headquarters and looking for clues.”
Sienna nodded: "That's right, but the Shadow Council's headquarters must be heavily guarded and full of traps, so we must be fully prepared."
Over the next few days, the sisters tirelessly gathered intelligence from all directions, and they finally located the Shadow Council headquarters.
It was an abandoned castle on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by various traps and defensive structures. From a distance, the castle appeared sinister and terrifying, like a sleeping behemoth that could awaken at any moment to launch a deadly attack. Sienna and the others cautiously approached the castle, only to find its gates tightly shut, the heavy iron doors seemingly declaring their rejection of all uninvited guests.
"It seems they anticipated our arrival," Maple Leaf said, a hint of worry flashing in his eyes.
“It’s alright, we’ll definitely find a way in,” Sienna said, beginning to carefully examine the castle’s defenses. Her gaze was as sharp as a hawk’s, not missing a single detail. Finally, she spotted a small ventilation opening in the castle wall, small enough for the petite Trinity to squeeze through.
Sienna told Trinity her idea, and Trinity agreed without hesitation. Using her unique ability to create clones, she created multiple clones that moved around the castle like phantoms, attracting the guards' attention. Then, she took the opportunity to slip into the ventilation shaft.
Trinity crawled laboriously through the narrow, stifling ventilation ducts, each step requiring tremendous effort. Finally, she reached the interior of the castle. She quietly opened the vent cover and jumped down.
The castle was dark and filled with an eerie atmosphere, as if countless eyes were watching from the shadows. Trinity cautiously made her way through the castle, each step taken with extreme care. Suddenly, she heard voices.
"The 'Endgame' plan has entered its final stage. Once we activate the weapon to control people's minds, the entire city of Auclair will be under the control of our Shadow Council. At that time, those who resist will become our slaves!"
"However, those girls have been causing trouble lately, so we should still be careful."
"Hmph, they can't cause any trouble. Even if they find this place, they won't leave alive. Our defenses are impregnable; they're just asking for it."
Trinity crept closer to the source of the sound and discovered that several members of the Shadow Council were discussing a plan. She quietly took out her phone and recorded their conversation; every word could be the key to solving the mystery.
Just then, a member of the Shadow Council caught sight of her out of the corner of his eye. "Someone's there!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the castle like a warning bell. Then, he charged toward Trinity, his steps quick and fierce.
Trinity immediately turned and ran, simultaneously using her clone ability to create chaos. Her clones scattered in all directions, making it difficult for the Shadow Council members to distinguish which was the real her. They all gave chase, and Trinity ran while searching for an exit.
After losing one clone, Trinity managed to hold off the enemy, and her other clone escaped.
"How's it going? Have you found any clues?" Sienna asked anxiously, her eyes full of anticipation.
Trinity used her clone to tell everyone what she knew, and everyone's expressions turned solemn, making the atmosphere even more oppressive.
After a long while, Trinity found a passage leading outside the castle. She quickly rushed out, shaking off the enemies behind her, and reunited with her leader.
“It seems their plan is imminent, and we must act quickly,” Sienna said, her voice tinged with urgency.
After discussing it, they decided to sneak into the castle again under the cover of night. This time, they devised a detailed plan, meticulously considering every detail, intending to thwart the Shadow Council's "Endgame" plan and save the city of Auclair.
Night fell, the moonlight as clear as water, but a chilling atmosphere permeated the area around the castle. Sienna and her companions returned to the castle. Following their plan, they carefully avoided traps and guards, entering the castle like ghosts.
They searched the castle thoroughly for the weapon that could control minds, leaving no room unexplored. Finally, they found it in a secret chamber deep within the castle. It was a massive device that occupied most of the chamber, flickering with eerie lights, as if it were an evil creation from hell.
“This is it!” Sienna said excitedly, but a hint of nervousness flashed in her eyes.
Just as they were about to destroy the device, members of the Shadow Council suddenly appeared. They surged into the chamber from all sides, surrounding Sienna and the others. A fierce battle immediately ensued.
The Shadow Council members were clearly well-prepared this time; they were stronger than before, their attacks more ferocious, and their defenses more formidable. Sienna and the others gradually found themselves in trouble, and some wounds began to appear on their bodies, but they showed no sign of retreating.
However, the sisters did not give up. Working together, they fought a desperate battle against the enemy, relying on their unwavering will and exceptional combat skills. During the battle, Sienna discovered that the Shadow Council members seemed sensitive to a particular frequency. She had a flash of inspiration and instructed Maple to emit this frequency using her personal equipment.
Maple Leaf quickly operated the equipment, adjusting the frequency. Sure enough, upon hearing this frequency, the Shadow Council members became sluggish, their combat effectiveness greatly reduced, as if drained of their power. Sienna and her group seized the opportunity to launch an attack, like tigers among sheep, gradually turning the tide of the battle and finally defeating the Shadow Council members.
They approached the weapon that controlled minds, ready to destroy it. However, at that moment, a mysterious figure suddenly appeared. He was tall and shrouded in a black robe, his face obscured. He lunged forward and pressed the weapon's activation button.
"Haha, you're too late! The 'Endgame' plan has been launched, and the entire city of Auclair will fall into the hands of our Shadow Council! Your resistance is futile!" The mysterious man laughed, his voice filled with madness and triumph.
Sienna and the others stared in horror at the activated weapon, their hearts filled with panic, unsure of what to do. Just then, in this critical moment, Sienna suddenly had an idea.
She instructed Maple to quickly adjust the device's frequency to resonate with the weapon's output. Maple immediately understood, her hands flying across the device, her forehead beaded with sweat.
As the frequency was adjusted, the weapon began to vibrate violently, shaking the entire secret chamber as if it were about to collapse at any moment. The mysterious figure tried to stop them, but it was too late.
