All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 49 Selection Ends
Hansen swayed and lightly leaped into the shimmering water.
Unlike his classmates who were struggling to paddle in the water, he chose a more unique approach.
Hansen steadied himself in the water, then used magic to quickly conjure a huge ice platform beneath his feet, standing firmly on it. He waved his hands, manipulating the air currents, and traversed the water's surface rapidly as if riding a sail.
He darted past his swimming classmates like lightning, leaving behind a trail of astonished glances. Hansen felt the water rushing past his ears and watched the surprised looks on his classmates' faces as he appeared; a surge of triumphant pleasure welled up within him. This feeling of gliding freely underwater made him feel as if he were the master of the ocean.
"Damn it, how did he do that? Why don't I know ice elemental magic?" A classmate, witnessing Hansen's actions, couldn't help but blurt out.
He looked at his arms and legs struggling to move across the water and suddenly felt exhausted. He had thought that he could swim fast enough by relying on water elemental power, but Hansen's appearance made him realize how insignificant his efforts were.
He couldn't help but laugh at himself, as if he had become a clown in this performance. Indeed, there are always mountains beyond mountains, and people beyond people.
However, some people have a different view, and they think it's all perfectly normal.
They were not surprised by Hansen's performance; on the contrary, they felt it was to be expected—after all, he was the Duke of Adams' son and Eric's brother.
Coming from such a family, it seemed only natural that they possessed such abilities. They even thought that if they had been born into such a privileged environment and enjoyed abundant resources, they might have been even more outstanding than Hansen.
Many people have this idea, and it can't be said that there's anything wrong with them thinking this way. Even Leon himself has had this idea.
Why wasn't I born into a wealthy family? Why wasn't I born a rich kid? Why was I born into a poor family? Even after transmigrating, I'm still just a commoner.
People are not born equal, and Leon often complained about this, lamenting the unfairness of fate. But he only complained; life had to go on.
Since we cannot decide what we are born into, we can only try to change it through our own efforts. Whether or not we can change our destiny, at least we have tried, and even if we fail, we will not regret it too much in retrospect.
...
Hansen's eyes were fixed on the approaching finish line, his heart pounding, his excitement palpable. Currently, including those who had already crossed the finish line, there were only 35 people ahead of him, while the other students behind him were still some distance away.
Following this trend, he had a real chance of becoming one of the top students out of the 40. This was the first step in proving his abilities to his father, and how could he not be thrilled?
Just as he was imagining himself crossing the finish line with great anticipation, he suddenly noticed a large shadow spreading out beneath his feet.
Hansen looked down at the water's surface, a sense of foreboding rising within him. Sure enough, just as he was about to speed away from the shadows, a gigantic figure suddenly rose from the water.
This creature was enormous, almost the size of a room. Its skin, like a dark green gemstone, gleamed with a dangerous sheen, resembling an emerald behemoth from the deep sea. Its back was covered in hard, lotus-leaf-shaped carapaces, and its eyes gleamed with a cold light in the dark depths. It moved silently, completely unnoticed by Hansen.
Hansen stared at its gaping maw, its rows of sharp teeth like blades, seemingly capable of tearing him to shreds. His excitement turned to terror; faced with this sudden threat, he had to react swiftly.
Unable to adjust his body mid-air, Hansen quickly gathered his magic power and launched a full-force attack at the beast's gaping maw. A burst of blazing flames erupted from its mouth, shooting skyward and successfully halting its devouring momentum.
Caught off guard by the sudden attack of flames, the enormous creature sank painfully to the bottom of the water, creating huge waves that spread across the surface, rippling in waves. Even the students who were swimming stopped in their tracks, watching the scene in shock.
Hansen landed back on the water and continued his advance. Time was of the essence; he couldn't afford to waste a single second. In that brief moment of hesitation, a student had already overtaken him. Hansen's heart tightened; he knew he had to give it his all to maintain his advantage in this race.
Hansen's eyes followed the student's figure, his mind filled with astonishment. How could he move so quickly in the water, and his posture looked so unique and puzzling?
Leon noticed the student and was surprised to find that the student had summoned an aquatic creature that resembled a seahorse. The student was clinging tightly to the creature's tail, letting it drag him swiftly through the water. Leon couldn't help but admire the student's ingenious method.
"The selection is over." The dean announced the end of the selection after the 40th student successfully reached the finish line. Leon watched Hansen panting heavily on the shore and felt genuinely happy that he had persevered to the end.
"I never expected that a first-year student would be able to complete this challenge," the dean sighed with admiration.
"The youngest son of the Adams family is indeed good, but he still has some way to go compared to his older brother," another teacher commented.
Leon had never met Hansen's brother, but based on his colleagues' descriptions, he could imagine that he was a remarkable person. No wonder Hansen worked so hard.
Hansen didn't rest on the shore for long. He walked up to Leon and respectfully expressed his gratitude. Leon didn't seem to care, but Teacher Vic frowned slightly. Although he didn't say a word, he was clearly displeased by the scene.
Hansen's gaze shifted to Ilya, who stood beside Leon, wondering why she remained by his teacher's side. However, out of politeness, he refrained from voicing his questions.
The competition finally came to a successful conclusion, and the dean and all the teachers dispersed. Leon also prepared to leave with Teacher Lian.
“Professor Leon, please wait a moment, I have something I'd like to discuss with you.” Professor Vic’s voice broke the silence that was about to fade away.
Leon looked at Teacher Vic with some surprise, not expecting him to call him at this moment.
"Mr. Vic, is there something you need?" Despite his doubts, Leon responded politely.
Mr. Vic walked up to Leon and said in a low voice, "Mr. Leon, would you be willing to have a private duel with me?"
