All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 48 Level 2
"Yes, these children have all performed very well, and some of them are indeed promising talents." The dean stared intently at the large screen in front of him, a satisfied smile on his face, and nodded gently.
“Indeed, the students’ basic qualities are outstanding.” Several teachers nearby agreed, their faces also showing approval.
Leon shared the same sentiment, believing that every student present was an elite member of the academy, and their performance was undoubtedly something to look forward to. It was only natural that they would perform exceptionally well in such a competition.
Leon's gaze was focused on one of the many screens, which displayed Hansen's live situation.
Hansen was standing at the edge of the canyon in the second level, facing the bottomless ravine that was tens of meters wide. For Hansen, who had mastered wind elemental magic, crossing such a canyon seemed to be no problem.
Leon thought to himself that this hurdle should be a piece of cake for Hansen.
...
Hansen stared intently at the edge of the cliff not far ahead. He had done his homework beforehand and knew the width of the canyon by heart.
He quickly devised the best strategy to cross the canyon in his mind, silently thinking: Why not take it all in one go, rush straight through, and use inertia combined with gliding to complete this challenge in one fell swoop?
Hansen gritted his teeth, deciding not to hesitate any longer. As he approached the edge of the canyon step by step, he took a deep breath, concentrated all his strength, and leaped several meters off the ground.
"This height is still not enough." Hansen quickly assessed his jump height and the width of the canyon in mid-air, knowing that such a jump alone was not enough to ensure his safe passage across the canyon's abyss.
Without a second thought, Hansen immediately used wind magic, manipulating the molecules in the air to quickly create a vortex-like flow of air beneath his feet.
As the airflow surged forth, he felt a powerful thrust that propelled his body higher into the air once more. Sensing he had reached a sufficient height, Hansen knew it was time to execute the next step of his plan.
He began frantically gathering magic power, preparing to unleash a wide-ranging spell. Seeing his companions in the air also exerting their utmost efforts using their skills, Hansen decided to lend them a hand.
This wasn't intentional; it was because he himself relied on this move to clear the level, and he knew that this magic wasn't easy to master.
"Summon Storm!" Hansen invoked the power of the wind element, unleashing a fierce storm behind him.
In an instant, a gust of wind howled up from behind him, like giant wings, lifting him and his companions in the air and speeding them toward the other side of the canyon.
"Well done, thank you, friend." Several classmates around Hansen, who had benefited from the storm, expressed their sincere gratitude to him.
Hansen didn't say much; he chose to focus on the competition. At that moment, many students were floating in the air with him, and the pressure of the competition made him dare not relax in the slightest.
Just when Hansen thought he would pass the second test smoothly, suddenly, an unusually strong gust of air rushed towards him from the side.
"This is bad." Hansen instantly felt the intensity of the airflow. He realized that if this continued, he would be blown off course and might not be able to reach the other side.
Before he could come up with a solution, the lateral airflow suddenly intensified, and the fierce winds blew all the students gliding in the air out of control, causing their directions to become chaotic and disordered.
Hansen felt his body becoming increasingly difficult to control, and his heart was filled with resentment. He didn't want to see himself fall in the second round; such a failure seemed to mean that years of effort would be in vain.
He recalled his father's indifference towards him, the criticisms he received from others, and the contempt and cold looks he silently endured over the years.
He firmly told himself that now was not the time to give up. Just then, his gaze locked onto the towering tree on the opposite bank of the canyon. He quickly assessed the distance between himself and the other side, and a surge of hope welled up in his heart: he still had a chance.
Hansen poured all his energy into adjusting his magic, concentrating all his power in the direction he was flying towards the great tree. His movements were firm and powerful, as if he were trying to take his destiny back into his own hands.
"Success!" Hansen was overjoyed as he watched the ice elemental chains tightly wrap around the tree branches. He quickly grabbed the other end of the chain, pulled hard, and dragged himself toward the towering tree.
Hansen gasped for breath, feeling the immense drain on his magic power during this challenge, especially from casting Storm Summoning and Ice Chains. Normally, casting Ice Chains wasn't too strenuous, but reaching such a distance was exceptionally difficult. This time, he had truly fought his way out of a desperate situation.
After a short rest and catching his breath, Hansen didn't linger. After all, only the final hurdle remained, and he had to grit his teeth and persevere no matter what. He thought to himself that he could rest properly once he successfully reached the finish line.
Leon stared intently at the screen displaying Hansen's image, his breath catching in his throat. He had just been certain that Hansen was about to fail the challenge, but to his surprise, Hansen had turned the tide and successfully passed the level. Leon breathed a sigh of relief, secretly applauding Hansen's perseverance and wisdom.
Turning his head, Leon's gaze swept across the other screens, his heart filled with regret for Emma and Aurora's failure. They had failed to cross the seemingly bottomless canyon. Although they continued running relentlessly towards the finish line, time was clearly running out, and many students were already ahead of them.
Leon shifted his gaze again, noticing several students about to cross the finish line of the third stage, just a short distance from ultimate victory. In the tense atmosphere, the dawn of victory seemed to be beckon them.
Hansen stared intently at the third challenge he was about to face, already having a strategy in mind. At that moment, he couldn't help but want to thank Professor Leon.
If William hadn't dragged him to Leon's class, he might not have mastered ice elemental magic, and without this skill, he would likely have been defeated in this selection competition.
Hansen was filled with gratitude, thanking Leon for his careful guidance and William for being such a good brother who always helped him unintentionally.
Facing the vast expanse of water ahead, Hansen was full of confidence, believing he could successfully overcome this challenge.
