Chapter 18 Controversy

The test was soon Agreed's turn. Before that, thirty-seven special talents had been discovered and were scrambled for by a group of magic instructors. Just now, the principal had said that because there were more good talents this year, a special magic enhancement class would be set up for these people.

By the time it was Agreed's turn, the test was almost over. People with nine-color talents like him were usually put later since there was little hope. The sooner the good talents were selected, the less waiting time the magic instructors would have. So at this point, no one was really paying attention to the test results anymore.

They didn't think any special talents would emerge from among those universally acknowledged useless individuals with nine-colored talents, but this time they ultimately miscalculated.

When Agreed placed his hand on the crystal ball, a dazzling, colorful light emanated from it. For a moment, the light seemed even brighter than the sun, drawing the magicians back to the scene, who had been preparing to leave.

The Dean of the Elemental Academy rushed back to the testing square, staring at the light in disbelief and shouting, "This is impossible! This is a magical reaction that's already halfway to, or even at, the level of a mage! Who's conducting this test?!"

The intern tutor in charge of the test was startled. He then hurriedly pointed at Agreed and shouted, "Headmaster, this is a student named Agreed taking the test. We need a more precise test crystal. I suspect he may already be a magician."

The dean walked over excitedly. He quickly ran to Agreed's side and took out a higher-grade testing crystal from his spatial ring. Then, without saying a word, the dean grabbed Agreed's hand and pressed it onto the testing crystal. The colorful light reappeared, but this time the light was much dimmer.

The dean was initially delighted, but then somewhat disappointed as he looked at the result and sighed, "What a pity. Awakening means becoming a mage, but the talent is the most pathetic nine-colored talent. I'm afraid that he is destined to be a great mage in this lifetime."

Agreed was unconcerned about the headmaster's disappointment and continued, "Headmaster, does that mean I can join the advanced magic class too?"

Unexpectedly, Catherine jumped out to object, saying, "No, Dean! According to the academy's tradition, we cannot waste resources on a useless person with limited prospects."

It was clear that Catherine's words had won the Dean's approval. The Dean then nodded and said, "Teacher Catherine is right. I'm sorry, little one, the academy cannot waste its limited resources. It's a pity you can only blame yourself for misplacing your talents. But as compensation, you will still enjoy the qualification to directly advance to the second year. As long as you can find a teacher who is willing to teach you, you will still be able to become a qualified magician in time."

Agreed's heart sank instantly upon hearing this. He had thought he would rise to prominence, but instead he was still a discarded pawn. However, Agreed remained silent. He knew in his heart that as a nobody, he had never had a choice and could only accept it all.

Agreed stared at the Dean and Catherine, secretly vowing that one day he would use pure strength to make the two of them worship him!

Just as Agreed had given up hope, a voice suddenly rang out and shouted, "When did the Elemental Academy become so hypocritical? This kid passed the test, and joining the Magic Enhancement Class is the treatment he deserves. If you just take this spot away like that, wouldn't it make us a laughing stock if outsiders saw it!"

Agreed looked in the direction of the voice and was astonished to see the same drunken old man from yesterday, "Presidian".

When Professor Catherine saw Presidian dressed in tattered robes, she looked down on him and scolded, "Where did you come from, you poor bumpkin? This is the Dean's decision, you good-for-nothing..."

Before Catherine could finish speaking, the dean suddenly slapped her across the face and roared, "You bastard, shut your mouth! This is Presidian McKellen, the honorary professor of my Elemental Academy, the seventy-ninth dean of the Elemental Academy (the current dean is the eighty-third), and a forbidden spell mage registered in Augustus!"

Catherine was still reeling from the slap when she realized that she had offended some important person. She collapsed to the ground, too frightened to stand up.

Dean Akoma ignored Catherine lying on the ground and instead bowed respectfully to Presidian, replying, "Mr. Presidian, you are right. I will add him to the advanced class."

Presidian said disdainfully, "No need. As the dean, you've already made a decision. Changing it now would be a disgrace to my Elemental Academy. I won't make things difficult for you. This kid is mine. I'm just idling around anyway, so I might as well take him on as a disciple."

Dean Akoma responded with a look of astonishment, "You mean... you want to take him as your apprentice!"

Presidian said disdainfully, "Have you gotten so old that you can't even understand what I'm saying?"

Akoma quickly replied, "No, no, it's just that you've been living in seclusion ever since that incident. I never expected you to come out of seclusion today just to recruit a useless... ah, no, apprentice. It's really quite a surprise to me."

Presidian asked in a low voice, "What, do I need to report to you about what I do?"

Akoma quickly replied, "No need, no need, everything will be done as you instructed."

Ignoring Akoma, Presidian walked up to Agreed and said, "Would you like to become my apprentice?"

Agreed hurriedly knelt down and kowtowed in the grand ceremony of becoming a disciple, shouting loudly, "Disciple is willing!"

“Very good, very good. The holidays are coming soon. Come find me at my residence in the Elemental Academy when the new semester starts. That’s when I will formally teach you the cultivation techniques.” With that, Presidian turned and left. Agreed felt a strange feeling about Presidian’s actions.

He could have easily put him in the advanced magic class, which would have saved him the trouble and allowed him to repay the favor he owed Agred, but he didn't. Why? Agred didn't believe that he could gain the favor of a forbidden spellcaster in such a short time. Everything was going too smoothly, which made Agred wary.

"Forget it, let's just take it one step at a time. I'm nobody here now, and there are many things I don't have a choice about, living in this predicament." Agred then muttered to himself with a self-deprecating tone before leaving the academy, ending this farce.

This time, Agred truly made a name for himself, his fame spreading throughout the entire academy, and even reaching other academies. The reclusive master of the Elemental Academy had made an exception and accepted a useless apprentice with nine-colored talent. This amusing story quickly spread among the people, and its influence even reached the royal family of Augustus. Now, Agred was truly famous in the mage world of Augustus.

Fortunately, most people only know the name Agred and don't know who Agred is, otherwise Agred's vacation would have been very difficult.
