HP Star Shining
Chapter 93
On Christmas morning, Harry was woken up by a pillow thrown by Ron.
"Hey! Gifts." Ron was very excited.
Harry reached for his glasses and put them on, then looked towards the end of the bed in the semi-darkness. There was already a small pile of presents at the foot of the bed.
Ron was already tearing the wrapping paper off his present.
"Mom gave me another sweater, dark red. See if you have one too."
Of course, Mrs. Weasley knitted a sweater for Harry as usual, but what attracted Harry today was not the pile of snacks, cakes and candies, but a long package lying at the bottom.
"What's that?" asked Ron, holding a pair of freshly unpacked dark red socks.
"I don't know." Harry tore open the package and then took a breath.
It was a gleaming and exquisite broomstick, the same one he had seen in the window of the Quidditch boutique and had been attracted to, the Firebolt.
Ron dropped his socks and jumped out of his bed to look.
"I can't believe this," Harry croaked.
He held the Firebolt in his hand and could feel it tremble, so he let go.
The broom was suspended in the air, just at a height that he could ride on it.
"Who gave this to you?" Ron asked in a low voice.
"See if there are any cards."
So Ron tore open the Firebolt wrapper and looked through it. "No, my God, who would spend so much money on you?"
"Hmm." Harry was still a little confused, "But I guess it won't be the Dursleys."
"I bet it was Dumbledore," said Ron, circling the Firebolt, admiring every inch of the dazzling broom. "He anonymously gave you the Invisibility Cloak."
"But it's my father's," said Harry. "Dumbledore just gave it to me. He wouldn't spend so much money on a student." This would cost hundreds of gold Galleons.
"That's why he didn't say it was a gift from him. He was afraid Malfoy and the others would think he was partial." Ron laughed loudly. "I can't imagine what Malfoy's face would be when he saw you riding this Firebolt. This is an international-level broom."
"Who is it..." Harry muttered, stroking the broom.
"I know!" Ron controlled his crazy laughter. "I know who it might be, Lupin. He likes you very much."
"What?" Harry laughed. "If he had so much gold, I think he'd buy himself some new robes first."
In fact, Harry thought about it and realized that there was only one person he knew who was most likely to give this gift.
Xingchen had never intentionally given anyone any expensive gifts, and she was very low-key in her daily life, so Hermione and Ron might not be very clear about it, and probably just thought that her family was well-off.
Only she, as a neighbor, knew that she was rich, whether as a Muggle or a wizard.
"What are you two laughing at?"
Hermione rushed in, wearing her pajamas, holding Crookshanks in one hand and holding Su Xingchen, who had not had time to change out of her pajamas, with the other.
"Good morning." Su Xingchen greeted slightly awkwardly.
She was really afraid that someone would be naked when she rushed in. Rushing into the boys' dormitory early in the morning on Christmas Day seemed to have become Hermione's signature activity.
"Don't bring it here." Ron hurriedly grabbed Scabbers out of the bed and stuffed it into his pajamas pocket.
Hermione wouldn't listen to him and threw Crookshanks onto Seamus's empty bed. Then she saw the broom in Harry's hand and looked surprised. "Wow, Harry, who gave this to you?"
Su Xingchen also looked at the Firebolt. Even though she was not interested in flying brooms, she had to admit that it was indeed exquisitely made and had beautiful and smooth lines. It looked like it could fly very fast.
Harry quickly glanced at Su Xingchen. She was not as surprised as Hermione and Ron. There was only admiration and self-righteousness in her eyes, which further strengthened his thoughts.
But she didn't leave a card, and now she didn't seem to be about to admit it. She even prepared an ordinary Christmas gift with her name on it. Maybe she didn't want Hermione, Ron, or even herself to know that she spent so much money?
So Harry said to Hermione, "I don't know, no one left a card."
Surprisingly, Hermione's face darkened when she heard his answer.
"What's wrong with you?" Ron asked, confused.
"It's a bit odd, isn't it? It's a nice broom," Hermione drawled.
Ron was overcome with emotion, "This is the best broom, Hermione."
“So, it must be expensive.”
"Probably more expensive than all the Slytherin brooms combined."
Su Xingchen's pupils widened slightly. Is it so expensive? Forgive her for not having any idea about the conversion of wizard currency.
"So who would give Harry an expensive broom like that and not tell him?" said Hermione.
"Who cares?" Ron said, a little impatiently. "Harry, can I have a ride? Can I? Just for a little while."
"I don't think anyone can ride this broom just yet!" Hermione shrieked, causing everyone to look at her.
"What do you think Harry will do with it? A broom..."
Before Hermione could reply, Crookshanks leaped from Seamus's bed and pounced on Ron's chest, tearing at his pajamas with his claws.
"Get! It! Away!!" Ron roared.
He grabbed Scabbers' tail and tried to kick Crookshanks away, but ended up kicking Harry's trunk instead.
The box flipped over. Ron jumped up and down, screaming in pain.
Before Su Xingchen could recover from the sudden chaos, a sharp whistling sound echoed throughout the dormitory.
The pocket peephole that Ron had given Harry during the holidays fell out of Uncle Vernon's old sock and spun around on the ground, sparkling.
Crookshanks's hair stood on end and he hissed at it.
"I forgot about it." Harry bent down and picked up the pocket mirror. "I try not to wear these socks." He stuffed the mirror into the sock and threw it into the box.
Now the only sounds in the room were Ron's low groans of pain and anger.
"Are you okay, Ron?" Su Xingchen asked softly, but the skinny and hairless mouse in Ron's hand stopped her from going over to help him.
Ron waved his hand to indicate that he was fine, and the Scabbers in his hand swayed with his movements.
Su Xingchen was secretly shocked. It looked very painful. This kid was still very concerned about his reputation.
Harry also noticed the changes in Scabbers. It hadn't left Ron's pocket for a long time. He remembered that it used to be a fat mouse. "It doesn't look very healthy."
"That's a lot of psychological pressure," said Ron. "If only Hermione, that stupid big fur ball, would stay away from it, everything would be fine."
But Harry remembered that the lady at the Magical Creatures Shop had said that mice could only live for three years, and he couldn't help but wonder if Scabbers had any unrevealed magical powers, otherwise it would have reached the end of its life long ago, as it had been in Ron's house for more than ten years.
Anyway, even though Ron kept complaining about it being boring and useless, he would be sad if Scabbers actually died.
