The President's Tender Trap

Chapter 123 Family Dispute

Ever since Su Wan learned of Uncle Li's secret, she's been filled with doubts and unease about her family's past. She's tried to have a deeper conversation with her parents, but whenever she brings up the subject, they express strong rejection and dissatisfaction. This leaves her feeling confused and lost, and the family atmosphere becomes increasingly tense.

One weekend evening, Su Wan finally mustered the courage to have a serious talk with her parents. During dinner, she noticed their expressions seemed tense, especially when she mentioned Uncle Li's name. Her mother's face darkened. She took a deep breath and prepared to speak her mind.

"Dad, Mom, I want to talk to you about Uncle Li." Su Wan said carefully, trying to make her tone sound calm.

"It's this topic again." There was helplessness in my father's voice. He put down his chopsticks, a tired look on his face. "Didn't we say we shouldn't talk about the past?"

"But I want to know the truth. Why do you always avoid talking about it?" Su Wan's voice rose a few degrees. The anxiety in her heart made her unable to help but refute.

"You're too young. There are some things you don't understand." There was a hint of urgency in the mother's tone. "We just want you to be happy and don't want you to worry."

"What I'm worried about is the fact that you are hiding! Uncle Li has always been an important person in our lives, why can't you tell me the story behind him?" Su Wan felt angry and powerless, tears welling up in her eyes.

"We're protecting you!" The father's voice suddenly rose, his emotions agitated. "You don't know how complicated those past events are. Revealing them will only make us more miserable!"

"Protect me? You're simply covering up the truth!" Su Wan's emotions gradually spiraled out of control, the pent-up grievances and anger in her heart erupting. She couldn't understand why her family wouldn't face these things. Was the truth really that terrifying?

"Su Wan, you are too impulsive, calm down!" The mother tried to calm the situation, but Su Wan's heart was already full of resistance.

"I don't want to calm down! I want to know the truth of the matter and want to know Uncle Li's story!" Su Wan's voice was mixed with tears, and the emotional impulse made her unable to control herself.

"You don't understand Uncle Li's pain and what he has been through!" The father responded angrily, with disappointment in his eyes.

"I don't understand? I'm asking because I want to understand!" Su Wan's voice became more and more intense. The family atmosphere became extremely harsh at this moment, as if every word was tearing each other's hearts.

The argument escalated, and her parents' emotions grew increasingly agitated. Su Wan felt powerless, her original desire to communicate diminished in that moment. She had always hoped to maintain a good relationship with her family, but now the argument made her feel isolated.

"You don't trust me at all. I'm just trying to understand my family!" Su Wan said angrily, tears finally bursting out.

A trace of guilt crossed her mother's face, but she still stood her ground. "It's not that we don't trust you, but we just hope you can live a simple and happy life. Knowing these things will only make you sad."

"But I'm very sad now! I would rather know the truth than live in lies!" Su Wan's voice was full of despair.

The father was silent. He was actually struggling in his heart. He wanted to protect his daughter, but he had to admit that hiding the truth would indeed make things more complicated. But he didn't know how to explain the pain of the past to Su Wan. The inner entanglement made him feel extremely heavy.

"I think we all need to calm down." My father finally said, his tone much softer, but still helpless.

Su Wan felt the loss of rejection. She turned and walked out of the restaurant, tears streaming down her face. She couldn't understand why trust and communication between family members could be so fragile. Her heart was filled with doubt and anxiety, and a deep sense of loneliness came over her, almost suffocating her.

The next day, Su Wan tried to communicate with her parents again, but the atmosphere remained tense. Her parents were clearly still wary and defensive about Uncle Li's situation, and an invisible barrier permeated the home. Whenever she tried to bring up the topic, her mother would respond with silence or a change of subject.

"I can't give up like this." Su Wan vowed to herself, her heart filled with firm belief. She decided to continue looking for more clues, trying to uncover the secrets of this family, even if it meant paying a price, to let the truth surface.

A few days later, Su Wan called Uncle Wang again, hoping to get more information from him. She knew that only by knowing more facts could she communicate smoothly with her parents.

"Uncle Wang, I want to talk to you again about Uncle Li." Su Wan tried her best to make her voice sound calm on the phone.

"Su Wan, I'm glad to hear your voice, but I still suggest that you don't dwell too much on the past." Uncle Wang's tone revealed a hint of worry.

"I know, but I need to understand my family. Uncle Li means a lot to me, and I hope to understand his past." Su Wan said firmly.

“Okay, but I’ll only tell you a few things, and you have to be mentally prepared.” Uncle Wang’s voice became low, as if he was thinking about how to express himself.

Through conversations with Uncle Wang, Su Wan learned that Uncle Li had endured a difficult time in his youth. He had experienced family tragedy, the loss of loved ones, and a missed love. These experiences led him to retreat from his family and to stop discussing those painful memories.

"He has been protecting you and trying to leave the pain in the past." Uncle Wang's voice was filled with sadness and helplessness.

Hearing this, Su Wan's heart was filled with emotion. Uncle Li's choice was not out of selfishness, but out of helplessness and deep love. She understood that family members were not distrustful of each other, but rather protected each other.

"Thank you, Uncle Wang." Su Wan said gratefully, and her understanding of Uncle Li deepened.

After returning home, Su Wan decided to have another in-depth discussion with her parents, hoping that through her own understanding, they would understand her feelings.

"Dad, Mom, I want to talk to you about what I learned from Uncle Wang." Su Wan spoke carefully at the dinner table, trying to make her tone sound gentle.

"It's this topic again." My father's expression was still tense, and he seemed unwilling to continue the discussion.

"I know you mean well, but I hope you can understand how I want to know the truth." Su Wan tried to remain calm and prayed silently in her heart.

"We just hope you can live a simple and happy life." There was a hint of helplessness in the mother's voice.

"But I am in pain now. I can't understand the meaning behind this secret." Su Wan's voice was full of sincerity and expectation.

After an in-depth discussion, Su Wan finally shared what she had learned about Uncle Li's experience with her parents. She tried to make her parents understand that Uncle Li's past was not just a simple "secret", but a love and pain buried deep in his heart.

"He has been through a lot, and we shouldn't avoid talking about his pain." Su Wan tried to make her parents understand her point of view.

After a period of communication, the parents finally began to let down their guard. They realized that Su Wan's persistence was not a conflict with the family, but a kind of understanding and care for her family.

"Maybe we should all face the past." There was a sigh in my father's voice and a soft light flashed in his eyes.

"Yes, only by facing it can our family become closer." Su Wan felt a little relieved and her heart was full of hope.
