The President's Tender Trap
Chapter 122
"What are they talking about?" Su Wan was puzzled. She immediately put down the documents in her hand and quietly approached the living room door, hoping to hear more clearly. Through the slightly opened door, she saw her parents sitting on the sofa, their expressions serious, and a hint of tension in their words.
"We can't talk about Uncle Li anymore. Let the past be the past." The mother's voice was full of helplessness and depression.
"But the children are grown up, and they have the right to know the truth." The father's voice was firm, but with a hint of hesitation.
Su Wan felt a surge of unease and doubt. Uncle Li had been a close elder to her since childhood, often visiting their home and providing her with much care and support. But she had never heard her parents mention anything about him. Today's conversation left her feeling vaguely uneasy, as if a shadow had fallen over this once warm family.
"The truth? What truth?" Su Wan murmured to herself, secretly deciding in her heart that she must find out the truth of this secret.
After a few days, Su Wan's doubts grew stronger, and she couldn't let them go. She began to actively communicate with her parents, but whenever she mentioned Uncle Li, her parents would evade the main point or change the subject. This situation made Su Wan even more anxious, and she realized that only by taking the initiative could she find the answers.
"I've decided to delve deeper into Uncle Li's secret." Su Wan secretly made up her mind and immediately began to make a plan.
Her first thought was Uncle Li's friends. Su Wan remembered hearing some of Uncle Li's friends mention him at a family gathering. So she pulled out her phone and contacted those familiar faces one by one.
"Hello, Auntie, it's me, Su Wan. Are you free? I want to ask you something about Uncle Li." Su Wan tried her best to make her voice sound natural.
There was a slight silence on the other end of the phone, followed by a gentle voice: "Su Wan, what's wrong? How is Uncle Li doing recently?"
"I... I want to know something about him. I recently heard my parents mention some of his past, but they don't want to say much." There was a hint of hesitation in Su Wan's voice.
"Oh, Uncle Li's matter..." Auntie's voice became low, "That's a past that is hard to recall. I advise you not to ask about it."
Hearing this, Su Wan's heart became even more confused. What happened to Uncle Li? Why didn't even his friends want to talk about it? She realized that she needed more clues.
Over the next few days, Su Wan began looking through her family's old letters and photo albums, hoping to find some clue. Every time she flipped through the yellowed envelopes or old photos, she felt a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. Perhaps, within these memories, she could find the truth she had been missing.
One sunny afternoon, Su Wan finally discovered a photo she had never seen before in an old album. In it, a young Uncle Li stood side by side with a pretty woman, smiling brightly, as if celebrating something. Su Wan's heart trembled, and she vaguely sensed that the relationship between this woman and Uncle Li was unusual.
"Who is this?" Su Wan was puzzled and decided to take the photo to her parents to see how they would react.
During dinner, Su Wan carefully took out the photo and placed it on the table. "Dad, Mom, do you remember this woman?" She tried to remain calm, but her heart was filled with anticipation.
The parents exchanged a glance. The mother's face turned pale instantly, while the father remained silent, as if thinking about something. A tense atmosphere permeated the dining table, and Su Wan felt uneasy.
"This is... a memory," my father finally said, his voice low. "We don't want you to know."
"Why? I have the right to know about my family." Su Wan's heart was filled with dissatisfaction and doubts, and she couldn't help but raise her voice.
"You are still young and don't understand these things." There was a hint of anxiety in the mother's tone.
"I don't want to be kept in the dark anymore." Su Wan's determination grew stronger. "I will find out the truth."
After dinner, Su Wan returned to her room, feeling confused. She decided to continue her investigation, looking for more clues. She thought of an old friend Uncle Li had mentioned, who might be able to provide some help.
"I want to contact Uncle Li's friends and see what they know about him." Su Wan said to herself and began to search for relevant information on the Internet.
After several days of hard work, Su Wan finally found an older friend of Uncle Li and invited him to have tea. This friend was Uncle Li's comrade-in-arms when he was young, named Uncle Wang, who had served in the army.
On a sunny afternoon, Su Wan met Uncle Wang in a cafe. She tried to appear relaxed, but her heart was filled with anticipation and nervousness.
"Uncle Wang, hello, I am Su Wan, Uncle Li's niece." Su Wan greeted with a smile.
"Oh, Su Wan, Uncle Li often mentions you. You've really grown up." Uncle Wang smiled kindly. "What do you want to talk to me about today?"
"I want to know something about Uncle Li. I heard some unusual conversations recently." Su Wan said cautiously.
Uncle Wang's expression changed slightly, as if he realized Su Wan's intention. "Uncle Li is a good man. He has many stories, but there are some things he may not want you to know." He paused, his eyes becoming deep.
"I want to know the truth," Su Wan said firmly. "I think I have the right to know about my family."
After some conversation, Uncle Wang finally decided to share some of his past with Su Wan. It turned out that Uncle Li had a difficult past. Family changes forced him to live independently in his youth, burdened by a past he didn't want to discuss. He once deeply loved a woman, but for various reasons, they couldn't marry, and he ultimately chose to retire to his family.
"Uncle Li has been protecting you and doesn't want you to worry." Uncle Wang slowly recounted these past events, his eyes flashing with emotion.
Su Wan's heart was suddenly filled with complex emotions. Behind Uncle Li's secret, there was such deep love and helplessness. She understood that Uncle Li was not a simple person. Every choice he made was full of sadness and sacrifice.
"I understand," Su Wan whispered, feeling relieved. She decided not to dwell on the pain of the past, hoping instead to be honest with Uncle Li and understand his choices.
Back home, Su Wan sat quietly in her room, Uncle Li flashing through her mind. She felt a surge of understanding and tolerance for her family, realizing that everyone had their own stories and secrets. She decided to have a good conversation with her parents, sharing what she had learned and working to restore trust.
"Dad, Mom, I want to talk to you." Su Wan walked into the living room and saw her parents sitting on the sofa, with a hint of nervousness in their expressions.
"What's wrong?" Mother raised her head, a hint of worry in her eyes.
"I met Uncle Wang today, and he told me some things about Uncle Li." Su Wan said slowly, secretly encouraging herself in her heart.
"You know?" There was a hint of shock and helplessness in my father's voice.
"I understand your concerns, but I hope we can be honest with each other." Su Wan said firmly.
After some in-depth communication, the tension between Su Wan and her parents gradually eased.
