Chapter 421: Mirror of the Void (2)
Caesar stared blankly at his own hands, the same hands that had pierced his father's chest not long ago. Now stained with thick, warm blood. Kyle's blood. Terror gripped him, and his small body trembled uncontrollably, nearly collapsing to the ground.
Rosie practically crawled over on her hands and knees, ignoring the numbness in her limbs and the discomfort churning in her gut from the shockwave. She hugged her cold, trembling son tightly to her chest. Her warm tears fell heavily on Caesar's soft black hair, soaking it all over.
"It's not your fault." Her voice was hoarse and broken due to sobbing. Every word was filled with unspeakable pain, yet extremely clear. "It's not you, it's that thing... it controls you." She hugged her son tightly, as if to transfer her body temperature to him and dispel the cold fear that was like a thorn in her side.
Kyle leaned against the cold stone of the altar, the horrific bloody hole in his chest piercing his heart. Every breath frothed with blood, his breath so weak it seemed it would cease at any moment. But his amber eyes remained sharp, fixed fixedly on them. He struggled, trying to hold himself up, but his efforts only caused more blood to gush out. He struggled to reach out to the mother and child, his blood-stained fingers trembling slightly before finally pausing in mid-air, no longer able to move closer.
His lips moved, his voice almost inaudible, weak from the pain, "External force...control." His words were concise and to the point, without soothing or tenderness, simply stating the facts. But these few numbers, more than any explanation could, brought some peace of mind to Rosie. This was Kyle's way.
Caesar suddenly raised his head, his tear-blurred eyes looking at Kyle's pale face. He saw the wound that almost penetrated his body, and saw his father struggling to breathe. A huge panic and regret instantly overwhelmed him.
"Dad..." the little guy cried, his voice trembling. "Your injury..." He choked and couldn't say anything more, tears flowing even harder. "I... I saw it..." He saw the beating heart, pierced by his own hands. This realization was like a poisoned dagger, repeatedly cutting into his young heart.
Kyle didn't respond, but instead used all his strength to try to move his body again, trying to get closer to them. The violent movement pulled at his wound, and he groaned, his forehead instantly covered in cold sweat, but his body stubbornly leaned forward.
Rosie quickly hugged the collapsed Caesar in her arms with one hand, and with her other hand, she tried to reach Kyle with a trembling hand, but was afraid to touch his horrific wound. She could only stretch out her hand in vain, looking at him with tears in her eyes, "Kyle, don't move! Please don't move!"
"Listen." Kyle's voice was still low, but it carried an unquestionable command. His eyes locked on Caesar's face. "On the battlefield, wills can be twisted and energy can be invaded. You were chosen because of your power." He paused, as if gathering his strength, and added, "That's all."
Rosie forced herself to calm down, taking a deep breath and suppressing the sob in her throat. She wiped the tears from her face, gently stroking Caesar's cold cheek with one hand, and carefully holding down Kyle's shoulder with the other hand as he tried to move again, preventing him from hurting himself further. "Caesar, listen to Daddy," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "What's important is that you overcame it. You heard our voices, and you came back." She held her son's tear-stained face in her hands and looked directly into his terrified and regretful eyes. "That's what matters most, do you understand?"
Caesar finally calmed down, his small body no longer trembling. Rosie had used her wood-based abilities to stabilize Kyle the moment he was injured. Green energy threads wove themselves into a web around the bloody hole in Kyle's chest, preventing further blood loss.
Kyle Saint-level's physique was inherently strong, and the edges of his wound had already begun to slowly heal, his flesh wriggling in an attempt to fill the horrifying void. His breathing gradually steadied, and his face regained a touch of color from its deathly paleness.
"Mom, will Dad be okay?" Caesar asked softly, his obsidian eyes full of worry.
Rosie gently stroked her son's hair, "Yes, your father is the strongest."
A breeze suddenly swirled around the center of the altar, and the figure of the wise man appeared out of thin air like a ghost. He had an enigmatic smile on his face, and his hands were clasped in front of his chest.
"Congratulations! You've all passed your respective trials, proving yourselves worthy of approaching the 'Mirror of the Void'."
Rosie's head shot up, a flash of anger in her eyes, "This is what you call a trial? You almost killed my family?"
The wise man remained unmoved. "The purpose of the second trial is not only to test your strength, but also to allow your power to resonate more deeply with the laws of the alien realm, preparing you for encountering the sacred artifact." He looked at Caesar, "Especially this child. The dragon blood in his body has a special connection with the alien realm."
Kyle propped himself up and sat up. "Enough, take us to find the Void Mirror." His voice was weak, but unquestionable.
The wise man nodded, turned and walked towards the depths of the altar, "Follow me."
Rosie helped Kyle up, with Caesar following closely behind. The three of them followed the wise man into the new passage behind the altar.
The spatial distortion along the way became more and more serious. The walls were sometimes transparent and sometimes solid. Water was flowing backwards from the ceiling, and the ground showed reflections of other worlds - strange cities and unknown starry skies.
Luo Qian stared at the images flowing beneath her feet. The unfamiliar city outlines and unknown fragments of the starry sky flickered on the ground like a broken kaleidoscope.
"What are these?" she asked, a note of alarm in her voice.
The wise man's finger lightly traced a flowing light and shadow. "Fragments of other worlds. The alien star region is the intersection of many worlds, and the spatial barriers here are extremely weak."
Kyle followed closely behind, one hand pressing on the wound on his chest that hadn't fully healed yet, the other hand protecting Rosie behind him. His breathing was still a little heavy, but his amber eyes were as sharp as an eagle, scanning every possible danger around him.
Caesar clutched the hem of Rosie's clothes tightly, his small body pressed against her legs. He no longer looked around curiously as usual, but lowered his head, with fear and self-blame still in his eyes.
As the passage deepened, the murals on the walls gradually became clearer. Rosie paused, her fingers lightly touching the ancient patterns. The lines were smooth and mysterious, similar in style to the Poseidon ruins, yet more primitive and rugged.
"These murals..." Rosie whispered, "What stories do they tell?"
In the center of the mural, a tall figure holding a mirror-like object stands between the cracks of the world, and the light reflected by the mirror seems to stabilize the crumbling space.
The wise man did not answer, but just continued walking forward.
At the end of the passage, the space suddenly opens up.
Rosie's breathing hitched for a moment.
The core of the Holy Mountain was a vast spherical space, devoid of any support, seemingly suspended in the void. In its center, a vortex of pure energy slowly swirled, emitting a low hum. The vortex alternately expanded and contracted, fragments of energy constantly falling off its edges and being sucked back in, creating an eerie breathing rhythm.
"This is the Mirror of the Void." The wise man's voice echoed in the space.
