Chapter 422: Mirror of the Void (3)
At the center of the void vortex, light and shadow intertwined, and energy breathed in like a tide. The wise man turned, his eyes flickering with a strange light, and the smile on his face slowly faded.
"I tell the same story to every visitor who comes here." His voice suddenly changed, no longer the gentle guide, but a combination of several tones, "But you three... are special."
Rosie subconsciously pulled Caesar behind her, supporting the still-recovering Kyle while keeping a vigilant eye on the Wise Man. The Heart of Poseidon hummed uncomfortably in her chest.
"I am not alone." The wise man opened his arms and his body began to twist and deform. "We are a collective of consciousnesses that survived the catastrophe in the alien domain and have been trapped in this land for endless years."
Kyle's hand was on Rosie's waist, and the strength from his fingertips was a warning.
"Don't come near him."
The wise man's laughter echoed in the space, vibrating every nerve of Rosie.
"Do you really think this is a test?" His voice pierced my eardrums. "This is a confirmation. It confirms whether you are suitable to be my 'key' and 'vessel'!"
The vortex in the center suddenly expanded, energy ripples spreading outward like ocean waves, shaking the entire space violently. The Heart of Poseidon on Rosie's chest uncontrollably emitted a dazzling blue light, resonating with the vortex and emitting a sharp, piercing cry.
A wave of dizziness washed over Rosie, who stumbled a step and subconsciously clutched Kyle's sleeve. She felt the Heart of Poseidon burning in her chest, as if it was about to burst through her flesh and fly into the whirlpool.
"It's calling to my heart." The wise man's voice twisted, becoming a multi-tone superposition. "The power within you originally belongs here!"
He raised his hand and grabbed at Rosie through the air. An invisible pulling force almost tore the Heart of Poseidon from her body. Severe pain spread from her chest throughout her body. Rosie groaned in pain, her legs giving way and she fell to her knees.
"Mom!" Caesar screamed and rushed over.
The wise man extended his other hand to Caesar, "The blood of the dragon clan, the key to the alien realm! Come, little one, complete your mission!"
Caesar's small body suddenly stiffened, black scales emerged from under his skin again, and his eyes flashed uncontrollably scarlet.
"Don't touch them!" Kyle's voice was a mixture of anger and pain. His wounds burst again under the impact of energy, and blood soaked his clothes on his chest, but he still struggled to stand in front of Rosie and Caesar.
The Wise Man's third arm extended from behind and pointed at Kyle, "The carrier of dark energy, the perfect source of power."
Three streams of energy shot out simultaneously from the Wise Man's fingertips, locking onto the core power sources within each of the three. Kyle groaned as the dark energy within him was forcibly drained, his face instantly pale. Caesar rolled on the ground, painfully transitioning between dragon and human form. Rosie felt the Heart of Poseidon being peeled away from her, slowly taking away her vitality.
In despair, Rosie turned to look at Kyle, and was surprised to find that he wasn't completely passive. Dark energy flowed in Kyle's amber eyes, and he was using his special perspective to see through the Wise Man and the Void Vortex.
"This is your true self..." Kyle gritted his teeth, his voice distorted by pain, yet still as sharp as a knife. "You are not a wise man, you are... the withered consciousness core of the Holy Mountain!"
The wise man's figure flickered, and his voice was filled with surprise: "You can actually see through it?"
Kyle struggled to reach out and grab Rosie and Caesar. "This guy's body is deep in the Holy Mountain, where it connects to the vortex... There's a... withered energy core..."
Rosie endured the pain, feeling the connection between the Heart of Poseidon and the vortex. Suddenly, a bold idea flashed in her mind.
"Kyle..." she gasped, "The Heart of Poseidon...maybe..."
Kyle seemed to understand her meaning immediately. A flash of surprise and worry flashed across his eyes, but it quickly turned into determination. He hugged Rosie and Caesar tightly, dark energy surging in his body.
"Sissi, trust me."
Rosie nodded, closed her eyes, and focused all her energy on awakening the power deep within the Heart of Poseidon. A blue light erupted from her chest, intertwining and merging with Kyle's dark energy to form a strange energy barrier.
The sage slapped the barrier frantically. "No! Impossible! How can you resist the call of the void?"
"Because we have a stronger connection." Rosie's voice was soft but firm, looking at Kyle and Caesar, "The connection of family."
Kyle's hand tightened around Rosie's, and his other hand gently stroked Caesar's back. "Son, listen to your mother and control the power in your body."
Caesar's small body trembled, but he raised his head, the scarlet in his eyes gradually fading, replaced by a determined black. "I can do this, Dad."
The energies of the three began to resonate in a unique way, forming a complete circuit. Rosie was surprised to discover that this resonance was not a simple addition of power, but a completely new form of energy - the bond between family members transformed into tangible power.
The Wise Man's body began to falter, and he stepped back in fear. "No, it's impossible! The Mirror of the Void should be irresistible! How could you—"
"Because you overlooked the most important thing." Rosie stood up, the light of Poseidon's Heart enveloping her. "We are not just a container and a key, we are a family."
Kyle's dark energy coalesced in his palm, transforming into an unmatched, shadowy spear that pierced the Wise Man's chest. His voice was icy, each word like a poisoned blade:
"Tell me the truth about the Void Mirror immediately. Otherwise, I will shatter your core into slag."
The wise man's body collapsed and reassembled before their eyes, like a clay doll crushed and pieced together by invisible hands. Finally, his form solidified into a withered old man, his face wrinkled and his back slightly hunched. A wry smile played on his face, and his eyes gleamed with the exhaustion of the end of the world.
"The Void Mirror was never a physical object," the old man said hoarsely. "It's a power—the power to connect worlds. We are the last guardians, waiting here for a thousand years, searching for someone worthy to inherit this power."
The Heart of Poseidon on Rosie's chest still glowed an uneasy blue light. She stared at the old man warily, her arms slightly outstretched in front of Caesar. "Is this what you attacked us for? You almost killed my family."
"It must be tested." The old man sighed deeply, his aged voice filled with unspeakable fatigue. "Only a true bond can stabilize the power of the void. Otherwise, it will devour the user. You have passed the final test, more perfectly than anyone else."
Caesar poked his head out from behind Rosie and whispered, "That voice in my head..." The little boy's voice was still trembling with anxiety, "Why does it call Mom the 'betrayer'?"
The old man nodded slowly, his eyes scanning the faintly visible black scales on Caesar's body. "Those are fragments of memories from the ancient dragon race. The dragons were once the most loyal guardians of the Void, but were betrayed by the very beings they protected." A hint of sadness flashed in the old man's eyes. "Thus, they harbor a deep hatred for the so-called 'betrayers,' even in their memories."
Rosie hugged Caesar tightly, feeling her son's small body gradually calm in her arms. A glint of determination flashed in her eyes. "The test is over. Now tell us how to obtain the Void Mirror."
The old man pointed to the swirling energy vortex in the center, his skinny fingers trembling slightly: "It's already yours."
The vortex suddenly spread towards the three of them, and a blue-white light wrapped around Rosie, Kyle, and Caesar like a living being. The Heart of Poseidon on Rosie's chest resonated strongly, and the light intertwined with the void energy to form a strange spiral...
