Chapter 420: Mirror of the Void (1)
Caesar turned toward Rosie, his claws gleaming coldly. He stared at her, his blood-red pupils vacant for a moment, as if he didn't recognize the person before him. But that clarity was quickly drowned out by a deeper rage.
"traitor…"
A cold, hoarse voice that did not belong to Caesar came out of his throat.
Those two words were like a poisoned ice spike, piercing Rosie's heart. Her child, the one who used to call her "Mom" softly, was now calling her with such hatred. Her heart suddenly tightened, the pain so severe that she could hardly breathe.
Tears blurred her vision as she watched Kyle and the scaled figure locked in battle once again. Kyle's movements were clearly measured, each block carefully executed, fearing serious injury. Caesar's attacks, however, were relentless, each one deadly, dragon flames and claws lashing out at her father.
Rosie wanted to rush over, but her body seemed to be nailed to the spot, unable to move. Fear and heartache tore at her.
"Don't come over here!" Kyle's voice was more severe than ever. He obviously realized her intention. "He can't recognize anyone now!"
In the moment Kyle's attention was distracted, Caesar found a flaw. The dark dragon's tail swept over like a steel whip, carrying terrifying power, and hit Kyle's chest hard.
"puff--"
Kyle groaned, his body crashing into the distant stone wall like a kite with a broken string, making a dull thud. He slid down the wall and fell to his knees, a mouthful of blood spurting out, staining the front of his shirt red.
"Kyle!" Rosie screamed, her heart seemed to be grasped by an invisible hand, and she was suffocating with pain.
At the center of the altar, the dragon-like Caesar didn't pursue. Instead, he slowly turned, his crimson pupils locked on Rosie. He approached, his dragon claws scratching the hard stone floor with a piercing sound, and each step felt like stepping on Rosie's heart.
"Descendants of... the traitor..."
Clearer words, carrying a strong murderous intent.
He suddenly accelerated, turning into a black afterimage and rushing towards Rosie, his claws flashing with cold light aimed at her heart.
The shadow of death loomed instantly.
Rosie didn't even have time to react. All she could see was Kyle struggling to get up and stumbling towards her.
In a flash, Kyle used up all his strength to rush to Rosie, opened his arms and protected her firmly behind him.
"boom--"
A dull, teeth-grinding sound was heard.
Caesar's dragon claws pierced Kyle's chest unhindered and came out from his back, with warm blood still dripping from the tips of his claws.
Time seems to stand still at this moment.
Rosie stared wide-eyed at the horrific bloody hole in Kyle's chest and Caesar's hand stained with his father's blood. His amber eyes suddenly widened in extreme pain, but he didn't retreat, nor did he even look down at his wound.
On the contrary, he used all his strength, grabbed Caesar's wrist with his right hand, and clamped Caesar's struggling body with his left arm, forcibly fixing the out-of-control cub in his arms, making it unable to move.
"Kyle!" Rosie screamed miserably, and rushed forward to support the staggering Kyle, tears streaming down her face.
"I'm fine..." Kyle coughed up a mouthful of blood mixed with broken pieces of internal organs. His face was as pale as paper, but he forced a reassuring look. His voice was weak but remarkably firm, his amber eyes fixed on his son who was twisting wildly in his arms. "Caesar... look at me..."
The dragonized Caesar twisted wildly in his father's grip. Every time the dragon's wings flapped against Kyle's back, a dull thud and a splatter of blood followed. Rosie's heart felt like it was being repeatedly thrashed by the wing bones, each time bringing a suffocating pain. She stared at Kyle's pierced chest, blood gushing out, staining his sturdy body red, and also her vision.
Kyle, however, seemed oblivious to the pain, all his energy focused on gazing into the eyes of his son in his arms. "Caesar...it's Daddy..." His voice, weakened by blood loss, held a strange penetrating power, attempting to awaken the blood-soaked soul.
A fleeting struggle flashed across those crimson pupils, and Caesar paused. The blood seemed to fade from his eyes for a moment, revealing a pure black beneath, tinged with a hint of bewilderment.
"Dad...?" A childish voice sounded, full of confusion and an instinctive fear.
Rosie's heart suddenly sank. It was Caesar! It was her child's voice!
"Yes...it's Dad..." Kyle endured the severe pain, and his voice revealed unprecedented tenderness, "Caesar...is very brave...Dad...is proud of you..." He tried to use this tenderness to dispel the ancient violence, even if there was only a slight gap.
But this fleeting moment of clarity was like a candle in the wind, extinguished in an instant. The bloodshot in Caesar's eyes surged once more, and the dragon claw that had pierced his father's chest even twitched viciously, attempting to inflict even greater damage. Kyle's face paled instantly, his features contorted in intense pain, but his grip on Caesar's wrist remained unwavering.
Can't wait any longer! Rosie rushed to their side, the Heart of Poseidon on her chest instantly blazing with a dazzling blue light, so intense it almost stung her eyes. She ignored the backlash of that power and reached out a trembling hand, placing it on Caesar's cold, hard, scaly forehead.
"Caesar, come back." Her voice was tearful, but resolute. Every word seemed to come from the depths of her soul. "Mom is here, Dad is here too. We are all waiting for you to come home."
The warm and gentle power of the sea god surged forth, attempting to penetrate the depths of Caesar's consciousness. Simultaneously, a cold, tyrannical dark force surged forth from Caesar's body, colliding violently with the blue light. Rosie felt as if her mental strength was being torn to shreds by these two extreme forces. The immense pulling force gave her a splitting headache, and her vision went black. She clenched her teeth tightly, her fingertips turning white from the exertion, refusing to loosen her grip even a little.
A large, scorching hand covered the back of her hand, carrying a strong smell of blood. It was Kyle! He still had the strength! "Let's... bring him back..." Kyle's voice was so weak that it was almost inaudible, but the determination he expressed was clearly conveyed through the warmth of his palm.
Two forces, one from the Heart of the Sea God, the other from Kyle's reckless fatherly love and spiritual strength, simultaneously surged into Caesar's tiny body. Beneath the black scales, Caesar's once tender face twisted in agony, as if two completely different wills were waging a desperate struggle within him.
"Traitor... kill... no... Dad... it hurts... it hurts so much... Mom... save me... I don't want it..." Chaotic and fragmented sentences came out of Caesar's mouth intermittently. His eyes flashed wildly between bloodthirsty scarlet and pure inky black, and his body trembled violently.
"Mom is here," Rosie choked with sobs, tears streaming down her face, blurring her vision. She repeated over and over again, "Caesar is not a killing machine... Caesar is our child... He is mom and dad's most beloved little baby..."
Caesar's struggle became more and more violent, and the energy storm raised by the dragon wings almost blew away Rosie who was clinging to him. Just when Rosie felt that her strength was about to run out and she was about to collapse——
"Roar--!"
A heart-wrenching howl of pain and relief erupted from Caesar. The dark energy within him erupted like an uncontrolled volcano, creating a powerful shockwave that instantly flung Rosie and Kyle, who were tightly surrounding him, away.
Rosie instinctively used her body to shield the seriously injured and dying Kyle. They both fell heavily to the cold altar floor, their bones seemed to be falling apart. She ignored her own pain and struggled to look up.
At the center of the altar, a small figure knelt. The terrifying black scales on his body receded rapidly like the tide, and the dragon wings that had stretched out from behind, tearing through his flesh, slowly retracted into his body. Soon, he returned to his original human form, his naked body curled up like a lost and injured cub.
"Caesar?" Rosie's heart was in her throat, and she tentatively called out softly.
The little body trembled, then slowly raised its head.
A pair of eyes as clear as obsidian were now filled with tears, showing undisguised fear, confusion, and a regret that almost drowned him.
"Mom... Dad..." Caesar's voice was broken and trembling. His eyes fell on the bloody and horrible wound on Kyle's chest. His pupils suddenly constricted and tears flowed out like beads from a broken string. "What... What did I do..."
