"This is the wizarding world, Ron." Lamia said lightly. Her voice was not loud, but it made Ron feel embarrassed and annoyed.

"Wow, wow, wow, I didn't even know we were in the wizarding world, Lamia, you're so smart." Ron curled his lips.

"That's true," Lamia said.

"Okay, that's enough." Hermione interrupted the two of them. She turned to look at Lamia and Ron, and finally stood between them.

"It's enchanted," Hermione continued. "Muggles looking at it see only a dilapidated pile of ruins with a sign over the entrance saying Danger, Keep Out, Unsafe."

Lamia didn't say anything else, or perhaps she had never actually seen it. They had only read about it in books, but if they wanted to tell the truth, perhaps only Muggles who had seen it with their own eyes could explain it.

"So, to an outsider, Durmstrang is also a pile of ruins?"

"Perhaps," said Hermione, shrugging. "Or it's been charmed to keep Muggles away, like World Cup stadiums. And maybe made unplottable to keep foreign wizards away—"

"What does this mean?"

"Well, you can put a spell on a building so that no one can plot it on a map. Got it?"

"Well... you'd better explain it more clearly," said Harry.

"But I think Durmslang is probably quite far north," Hermione mused. "A very cold place, since their uniforms include fur cloaks."

Lamia was wondering where Hermione had seen so much. She only knew a little about it, but Hermione was like she had studied there herself.

The train continued to move north, and the rain became heavier and heavier. The sky was dark and the windows were covered with moisture, so lanterns were lit in broad daylight.

With a clatter, the food trolley came rolling down the aisle, and Harry bought a large stack of cauldron cakes for everyone to share.

Lamia didn't like this kind of sweet food, so she didn't even touch it, but Ron liked it very much. He ate several pieces in a row, and at the same time he didn't understand why Lamia didn't even taste it.

In the afternoon, a few of their friends came to visit them, or rather, Harry and Ron's friends. Lamia didn't recognize many of them, perhaps Dean Thomas and Neville Longbottom - the round-faced boy with a terrible memory who was brought up by his formidable wizard grandmother.

Lamia wasn't sure either, but luckily these people were looking for Harry and Ron, and didn't pay much attention to this Slytherin wearing a green robe that didn't fit in with them.

The boys had very little to discuss, and Lamia's scalp tingled as she listened to them go back and forth on Quidditch-related topics.

After another half hour or so, Hermione began to grow tired of their endless chatter about Quidditch and plunged back into her book, The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 4, and tried to learn a Summoning Charm.

Suddenly there was a burst of laughter outside, and Lamia immediately recognized it as the voices of Draco and his followers, Goyle and Crabbe.

They didn't know what to say anymore and just laughed happily.

Almost no one in the carriage heard it clearly, except Lamia and Ron, who was closest to the door - he temporarily switched seats with Neville in order to show him his statue of Krum.

The next second, as Lamia expected, Ron stood up and slammed the door of the compartment shut. He used so much force that the glass on the door shattered.

"Ron!" Hermione was startled. She drew her wand and whispered, "Repair!" The broken glass pieces automatically pieced together into a complete piece of glass and returned to the door frame.

"What bad luck! How could I have run into this guy? He talks as if he knows everything and we're all in the dark..." Ron roared angrily several times, "'Dad only interacts with high-ranking figures in the Ministry of Magic'... My dad can be promoted at any time... He just likes his current position..."

"Him! Affecting my mood! No way!" said Ron, picking up the remaining piece of cauldron cake and stuffing it into his mouth.

Everyone was stunned. Since no one heard what Draco said, no one understood Ron's behavior.

"Are you looking for an excuse to eat the last piece of cauldron cake?" said Harry weakly.

Ron choked, nearly spraying cake crumbs everywhere. "Of course not!"

Ron turned his head in disbelief. "Didn't you just hear it?"

Everyone present, including Hermione who was still reading, shook their heads.

"Never mind, that wasn't a nice thing to say. I should have closed the door earlier!" Ron said indignantly.

Ron's mood remained sour for the rest of the journey. He was silent as they changed into their school robes, and his face remained sullen when the Hogwarts Express finally slowed to a stop in the darkness of Hogsmeade Station.

Lamia didn't like to say anything about others behind their backs, even if it was to praise them, so she didn't tell Hermione what Draco said, so she thought Ron simply didn't like Draco.

The car door opened and there was a rumble of thunder. Hermione pulled her cloak over Crookshanks while Ron still had his coat draped over the pigs' cage.

They got off the train and ducked their heads, squinting their eyes in the pouring rain, which was so fast and so fierce that it felt like buckets of icy water were being poured over their heads.

"Hello, Hagrid!" Harry shouted as he saw a large figure at the other end of the platform.

"Hello, Harry!" Hagrid replied gruffly, waving his hand. "And Lamia, I hope you're all well. See you at the party tonight, if we don't drown of course."

As per tradition, Hagrid needed to ferry the first-year students across the lake and into Hogwarts Castle.

"Oh, I can't imagine taking a ferry across the lake in this weather," said Hermione, trembling with emotion, as they inched along with the crowd across the dark platform.

Outside the station, a hundred horseless carriages were waiting for them. They quickly climbed into one of them and felt relieved.

The door slammed shut, and a moment later, with a violent jolt, the long carriage rumbled off along the path leading to Hogwarts Castle, splashing and splashing along the way.

Lamia looked out the window and saw the lake full of freshmen with their heads tilted up curiously. She suddenly felt dazed and realized that she had been in this world for a long time.
