Chapter 115 Cold Coffee
Zhao Yun seemed a little flattered, but still
During the investigation,
As night fell, Su Ming sat in a corner of the cafe, holding a cup of cold coffee in his hands, staring out the window at the street. People were constantly passing by, but his thoughts lingered on the unexpected meeting he had had a few hours earlier.
A few days ago, Su Ming had been looking for an opportunity to get closer to the core of the company, but he realized that he might not be able to get deep into it on his own, especially when faced with tight security and layers of disguise. And just when he felt almost isolated and helpless, fate seemed to send him an ally.
That day, Su Ming was researching some peripheral information about the company, trying to find more clues from publicly available documents. As he walked into an archive, a smartly dressed woman with a focused expression caught his eye. She looked different from the others, her every move exuding a sense of alertness and nervousness that stood out from the average document reader.
Su Ming's mind struck, and he decided to follow her and observe her. He deliberately approached her, pretending to search for a book on the same shelf, but his real attention was on the woman. She seemed to sense Su Ming's approach, tilting her head slightly and observing him out of the corner of her eye.
"Are you also looking for information about 'Hengrui Group'?" Su Ming asked softly, with a hint of inquiry in his tone.
The woman was startled for a moment, then turned around, revealing a beautiful but alert face. "Who are you? Why are you asking this question?"
Su Ming smiled, appearing harmless. "Don't be nervous. I'm also investigating Hengrui Group. Perhaps we can exchange information."
A hint of doubt flashed across the woman's eyes. She obviously did not immediately believe Su Ming's intention. "Why should I believe you?"
Su Ming pulled a business card from his pocket and handed it to her. It read "Zhang Chen, Investment Advisor" and included the name of his fictitious company. "This is my business card. My job is to help clients understand the potential risks of their investment targets, and 'Hengrui Group' is one of my current targets."
The woman took the card, examined it carefully, and her defensiveness relaxed slightly. "I'm Lin Yue, a reporter." She paused, as if evaluating whether to reveal more. "I'm also investigating Hengrui Group, but my interest lies in their research projects. I suspect they may be involved in some shady dealings."
"A shady deal?" Su Ming raised an eyebrow, his interest piqued. "That seems to align with recent information I've gathered. Clearly, she's very familiar with the topic. "According to the intelligence I have, they're developing a new type of technological product, but there's a huge secret hidden behind this project. Insiders I've spoken with have told me that this technology could potentially be used for military purposes, which goes far beyond their stated commercial objectives."
Su Ming's heartbeat quickened slightly, as this coincided with the information he had previously received from Zhang Wei. He realized that the woman before him might know more inside information, and that cooperation was undoubtedly the best option at the moment.
"I think we should cooperate." Su Ming decided to make a direct suggestion. "You have your channels, and I have my methods. We can investigate in depth together and perhaps get closer to the truth faster."
Lin Yue was silent for a few seconds, clearly weighing the pros and cons. Finally, she raised her head and looked at Su Ming with a determined gaze. "Okay, I agree to cooperate. But there's one condition—you must be completely honest with me and not conceal any intelligence you have." She smiled, "Only if we're honest with each other can we have a long-term partnership."
The two decided to collaborate from the outset of their next operation. Lin Yue combined her intelligence resources with Su Ming's professional skills, attempting to crack the secrets of the Hengrui Group from different angles. Lin Yue's journalistic identity gave her many advantages, allowing her to interview and interact with various people openly, while Su Ming excelled at operating in the shadows, obtaining key information through undisclosed means.
A few days later, the two met at a small restaurant. Lin Yue looked a little tired, but her eyes remained firm. She took out a piece of newly obtained intelligence and handed it to Su Ming.
"I heard that a batch of mysterious equipment from their R&D center was recently shipped to the company, and it's very likely related to their new project," Lin Yue whispered, a hint of worry on her face. "But I can't get close to those devices. The security measures are very strict."
Su Ming took the information and asked, "What is the source of these devices?"
"As far as I know, they were imported from a foreign military-industrial enterprise. My informant told me that these devices may be related to cyberattack technology." There was a hint of anxiety in his voice.
Su Ming pondered inwardly that if these devices were indeed connected to the cyberattack, then the severity of the matter was far greater than he had anticipated. He needed to investigate further and find more evidence, which would undoubtedly require even greater risk.
"We must enter their R&D center." Su Ming said calmly, although he knew it would be an extremely dangerous action.
Lin Yue obviously understood this. She hesitated for a moment, then nodded firmly. "Okay, I'll help you find a way to enter the R&D center, but it will take some time."
"We have plenty of time, but we may only have one chance. We must be as fully prepared as possible."
Over the next few days, Lin Yue used her reporter identity to gather more information, particularly regarding the R&D center's layout and security measures. Su Ming, on the other hand, maintained a low profile within the company, gradually gaining Li Zhiming's trust and gaining access to some key information.
During a conversation with Li Zhiming, Su Ming cleverly mentioned some international investment opportunities, trying to get more information about new products from Li Zhiming.
"Mr. Li, I have recently come into contact with some international investors who are very interested in emerging technology fields. Especially for a company like yours, which has such strong R&D capabilities, I believe they will be willing to invest." Su Ming threw out the bait calmly.
Li Zhiming was clearly very interested in international investment. He smiled and nodded, "This is indeed a good opportunity, but we need to wait until this new product is further refined before considering large-scale financing."
"I understand." Su Ming smiled, "But if you can reveal some research and development progress in advance, I might be able to help you attract some high-quality investors in advance."
Li Zhi was obviously hesitant, but he finally said softly, "Okay, I can only tell you that we have entered the final testing phase. Once the test results come out, we will hold an internal press conference, and you can participate then."
