Oritis in the world of Detective Conan

Chapter 57: The Shadow of Belstein (Part 3)

"Oh, I'm just telling the truth." Tuberose's voice suddenly changed.

"Recently, rumors have been circulating on the island that are unfavorable to the high priest, saying that Rosemary framed Mandragora in that case."

"If you want to investigate the case, it's best to find out the truth and debunk this rumor at the same time."

As Tuberose said this, she handed the rosemary token in her hand to everyone and turned to leave.

Maori Kogoro: "Phew, you surprised me. It was so easy to get the token."

"Now we can go talk to Mr. Trumpet Creeper again." Xiaolan suggested.

A few people returned to the trumpet creeper field. The trumpet creeper was very angry when it saw these people again. But after seeing the token of the high priest, its attitude changed 180 degrees and it answered whatever was asked directly.

From Trumpet Creeper, several people learned that it had rained lightly on the day of the incident. After the islanders entered the house, they saw Mandragora and another man lying in front of the table. It was also confirmed that the muddy shoe prints in the house were left by the islanders.

Afterwards, the three of them said goodbye to Ayame. Xiaolan raised her doubts: "Ms. Ayame seems to know the customs and people of the island very well. It seems that this is not her first time on the island."

Maori Kogoro added, "That Tuberose is also suspicious. According to the islanders, he's only been on the island for a short time, yet he's quickly become the High Priest's trusted confidant. I think he orchestrated all of this. He overthrew the heir, Miss Mandala, and then used the High Priest's token to command the other islanders, so that he could truly become the heir."

Conan showed his half-moon eyes directly: Uncle, your imagination is too big.

On the third day, it was drizzling and the whole island was covered in fog. Conan stayed in his room, reading the diary he had found in Mandala's house. He came across illustrations of plants that were only found near the high priest's residence.

Conan, realizing the High Priest was no ordinary person, decided to secretly investigate. While investigating, he discovered a strange pile of dirt covered with purple-red petals in the backyard of the High Priest's residence. He carefully saved the petals for later evidence collection and then secretly left the yard.

Then Conan sneaked into Mandragora's cell again, and sure enough, Tuberose was still guarding there.

"It's you, little detective. Are you here to take a statement secretly?" Tuberose stood aside with her arms folded.

Hearing this name, Conan felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity. He bravely asked Tulip.

"If Mr. Tuberose were here, Miss Mandragora probably wouldn't say anything. Could you please step aside for a moment?"

"Of course, as long as you can find out the truth." Tulip smiled and left.

Conan breathed a sigh of relief and took out his notebook to take notes.

"Ms. Mandala, I am a detective who has been entrusted to investigate the truth of the case. I hope you can answer truthfully. My client firmly believes that you are innocent."

Mandala heard Conan's words and slowly pointed outside the door.

Realizing that Tulip might be eavesdropping, Conan quickly closed the door.

"Then just in case, you can just nod or shake your head to answer 'yes' or 'no' to any of the questions I ask."

Mandala nodded.

After a while of questioning, Conan got a lot of information.

The music box found at the crime scene contained bees. The victim died from a bee sting, and the bees attacked the victim because of the flower coated with nectar.

Mandala is friends with the victim, who came from outside the island and has been letting her secretly live in her home. The victim appears to be aware of the dispute over the inheritance of Bearstein Island and is trying to help her. To bring down Rosemary and help Mandala regain her position as heir, the victim appears to have gathered evidence against Rosemary.

At the same time, he also obtained a dead bee from Mandragora as evidence.

Conan thought to himself: It seems that the conflict of interests is the key to the victim's death. Rosemary and the plants on the island seem to be hiding a secret. Considering the two letters of request from different factions sent by Oritis, those plants are likely related to the drug experiment.

Just as Conan was trying to ask for more information, the door of the cell was banged open. The person who opened the door was Tuberose, followed by the angry Acorus.

"Little detective, don't forget that your duty is to investigate the truth of the case. The conflicts of interest behind the truth have nothing to do with you." Night Jasmine knocked on the cell door dissatisfiedly.

Acorus quickly stood in front of Conan and said to Tuberose: "You just desperately hope that Miss Mandragora will plead guilty so that Rosemary can continue to be in charge of this island. You can also..."

Tuberose interrupted Acorus: "That's enough. I know what you want to do. You finally managed to save your life, so why are you so irrational? Really..."

Tuberose suddenly laughed.

Ayame's face looked very ugly, and she pulled Conan away.

The two of them walked back to the hotel in the drizzle, and the top hat on Acorus's head partially obscured her expression.

"Sister Ayame, what did Tuberose mean when she said you 're finally able to save your life'?" Conan asked while holding Ayame's hand.

"Nothing. I nearly fell off a cliff because of the slippery mud while I was investigating, and he happened to see it." Changpu lifted her hair that was wet from the rain.

Conan keenly noticed that there seemed to be purple-red spots on Ayame's face, whose makeup had been washed away by the rain. Just as he was about to take a closer look, Ayame pulled down her hat and covered her face with shadows.

"The flower you chose is pansy, and its language is missing. Who are you missing, or are you just missing a certain period of time in the past?" Acorus started a new topic.

"Huh?" Conan obviously didn't expect Ayame to ask this suddenly.

"As for me, I'm probably missing you..."

Conan thought about the time he spent with Xiaolan.

"It's okay if you don't want to talk about it." Ayame silently wiped the rain off her face and continued to pull Conan forward.

"You have to be careful of him, that Tuberose. Although I can't confirm it directly, I think he might be the one."

"Who?" Conan was a little confused by what Ayame said.

"The trial will be held in a few days. That is the last chance for Miss Mandala to get rid of the charges." The two walked all the way to the hotel, and Ayame said to Conan.

Xiaolan ran out anxiously and complained to Conan: "Conan, it's still raining outside, why did you run out?"

"Ah, I saw Sister Ayame going out to investigate. I was very curious and couldn't help but follow her." Conan laughed quickly.

"Is that so?" Xiaolan looked at Acorus with a questioning look.

Acorus nodded.

"Thank you for your hard work, Miss Ayame."

"It's okay. The court will start in a few afternoons." After saying that, Changpu turned and walked towards his room.

However, at noon on the day of the trial, when everyone was resting in the hotel to prepare for the afternoon trial, a burst of purple smoke suddenly filled the hall. Maori Kogoro and Xiaolan fainted in their seats one after another, and Ayame quickly pulled Conan out of the hotel.

"It's a special smokescreen made on the island. Someone wants to prevent us from attending the trial." Ayame dragged Conan along as they hurried towards the island's court. "It's easy to tell who's behind this."

"But uncle and Xiaolan..." Conan couldn't help but look back in the direction of the hotel.

"Don't worry, the smoke is harmless to humans. I have already informed the police this morning. I am now worried that they will move the trial date forward."

The court was right in front of them. The two men rushed through the door and happened to hear the first sound of the gavel.
