Oritis in the world of Detective Conan

Chapter 100: The Voyage of Oceanus (Part 3)

Several people left the deck and came to the banquet hall. There were many waiters arranging the dishes. The mercenaries found a seat and started eating. Conan and Subaru Okiya couldn't help rolling their eyes at this scene.

Conan couldn't help but ask the mercenary, "By the way, how did you develop such a starving ghost-like eating habit? Is your operation team short of funds?"

"I spent all my money on food, so it's just enough." The mercenary continued stuffing food into his mouth.

"Speaking of which, Frederick, how much do you know about the investor named DM?" The novelist came to the table with a plate of pasta.

The composer didn't take any of the food: "He and I have always corresponded through letters, and he inadvertently revealed his pursuit of immortality in his letters."

The mercenary was a little confused. "Given his cautious nature, why would he casually reveal such information to someone he had only just met?"

"I communicated with him under another identity." The composer looked at the novelist. "Remember, Professor Diluci's research before he disappeared? I used the inferences he left behind to communicate with the DM."

The novelist nodded. "That makes sense. Professor Dilusi has always been dedicated to the study of biological evolution, which somewhat overlaps with immortality."

"Will this DM be on the boat?" Conan couldn't help but ask.

"It's unlikely. He's a complete conspirator who likes to hide behind the scenes and manipulate the overall situation. He probably won't personally take part in things like the newcomer assessment. As for that newcomer, maybe he's mixed in with those scientific researchers." The mercenary wiped his mouth and prepared to get some more food.

"Huh? There are a lot of footprints covered in coal dust here." Conan saw the messy footprints at the door of the banquet hall, and followed these traces. Subaru Okiya also followed his pace.

The footprints extended all the way from the banquet hall to the corridor leading to the cabin, and finally stopped in front of a door, showing signs of repeated wandering.

"Look at the doorplate, this should be the room of the cartographer." Subaru Okiya looked around. The corridor was quiet and there was no one in sight.

"But these footprints obviously belong to a male, and they are quite large." Conan was already lying on the ground observing the details, and then he took pictures of the footprints with his mobile phone.

The novelist, composer, and mercenary came over from the other end of the corridor at this time.

"I think we should take a good rest first. After all, no one knows when the storm will come." The composer spoke first.

The mercenary then spoke up, "We're still quite a distance away from the Oceanus Sea. Let's rest up before then."

"Maybe we can go talk to that 'Kudo Shinichi' again. After all, none of us knows who issued the admission ticket to this Mr. Kaito." The novelist pointed the finger at Kaito Kid.

Soon, several people blocked Kaito Kidd who was returning from the banquet hall at the cabin door.

"You've been touring the entire ship before coming back." Conan stared at Kidd with his half-moon eyes.

Kidd raised his hands in surrender. "Give me a break, Detective. I haven't stolen anything this time."

"Where did you get your ticket?"

"That day in Ginza, after I left the scene, two people came up to me and forced it on me."

"Which two people? What do they look like?" Conan asked directly.

"One is the editor-in-chief of a newspaper, and the other is a magician. He seemed to have figured out the principles of my magic last time."

"What?" The first person to be shocked was not Conan but the novelist. "Are you talking about Kurt Frank and Serge Le Roy?"

"I don't even know their names." Kidd was trapped in a corner by a group of people and was about to cry.

The novelist looked at the mercenary and asked, "Are they also members of the Oritis Organization?"

The mercenary held his forehead and said, "Yes. But they probably have nothing to do with our internal struggle this time."

"Kurt Frank, codename 'Adventurer,' and Serge Le Roy, codename 'Magician.' These two must have gotten information that I'm on this ship, so they want to make things difficult for me."

"You don't have a good relationship with them?" Subaru Okiya slightly opened his squinted eyes.

"I had some friction with the magician before. As for the adventurer, he wasn't doing well in the research group. I guess he was coerced and bribed into teaming up with the magician."

[Magician: A "small" friction?]

[Adventurer: You're a one-on-three fighter who even defeated the Supervisor. You're a unique achievement in the manor.]

[Forward: I'm the most innocent person in the same group.]

[Mercenary: As long as you pay the balance, Mike, I won't come after you.]

[Acrobat: I didn't know the person responsible for delivering the message would disappear in Lakeview Village...]

[Savage:......]

Conan raised a question: "Why do the people in the research team use the identity of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper? It seems more like they are gathering intelligence."

"Because someone more capable has taken his place. This kind of thing isn't uncommon here." The mercenary crossed his arms. "But he won't be eliminated simply for lack of ability."

"I never thought that there was a member of the Oritis group right next to me. The clues were right within reach, and I..." The novelist clenched his fists so tightly that his nails were about to dig into his flesh.

"Don't be impulsive, Orpheus," the composer said, patting the novelist on the back. "At least the clues are becoming clear."

The novelist gave a forced smile. "You're right. My usual confidentiality probably prevented me from revealing any important information to them."

"Then, what kind of information did they use to induce you, a thief, to accept this invitation?" The mercenary turned to look at Kidd.

"They said they have information about a gem that has magical powers that can make people immortal." Kidd resigned himself to his fate and told everything he knew.

Conan understood a little: "This is why you keep stealing gems."

"A gem that makes people immortal? I think this is probably related to the alchemists in the organization. But that seems to have happened several years ago. It's surprising that they can dig up such a thing and use it as bait." The mercenary waved his hand and ended the topic.

Conan immediately thought of the Fool's Gold he had seen before. He seemed to be an alchemist.

After a long struggle, everyone finally let Kaito Kidd go. He ran back to his cabin and hid.

The next day, the sun was shining brightly, and the sea breeze caressed everyone's faces. The research vessel had already begun its fishing operations. Conan and his companions were watching the deep-sea shellfish and jellyfish being salvaged.

"Look at these lovely creatures. I believe they will shine brightly in your collection cabinet after being made into specimens." The taxidermist was looking at the salvaged shellfish with excitement and said to the mercenary.

"Although they are all common types, after certain processing, they should also become good collections." The mercenary maintained his persona as a collector.

The composer was staring blankly at the jellyfish placed in the tank beside him.

"What are you reading?" the novelist walked up to him.

"What beautiful creatures, like ghosts in the sea. They dance in the deep sea, perhaps someone should accompany them..."

The jellyfish's soft body moves up and down in the tank, just like notes on a musical score.
