A Shocking Dream

Chapter 113 Discovering Mutated Zombies

A crow flew overhead, its caw sounding particularly harsh in the silence, adding a touch of eeriness to the already tense atmosphere. Lin Wunian clenched his fists, prepared for any unknown danger, and stared intently at the dark gate of the old mill.

Lin Wunian paused outside the old mill, the stench of decay nearly overwhelming her. "No, I can't just rush in like this," she thought to herself, a look of caution in her eyes. "They're strong at night. Acting rashly in the dark will only put me in a desperate situation. I must find a way."

She glanced around, her eyes settling on a pile of dry firewood not far away. Lin Wunian quickly walked over and gathered some suitable branches to make a torch. She pulled out a tinder from her bosom, blew gently, and a faint spark lit up. She carefully ignited the branches.

The flames danced in the wind, growing larger and larger, dispelling the small patch of darkness around her. The torchlight illuminated the mottled walls and tangled grass around her, making the stench of decay even more distinct. Lin Wunian gripped the torch tightly, using the light to carefully survey the perimeter of the old mill, searching for clues or a safe way in, while remaining vigilant to any potential dangers.

Lin Wunian, holding a torch, slowly approached the entrance to the old mill. The pungent smell of decay washed over her like a surging tide, nearly swallowing her. The torchlight struggled in the darkness, barely illuminating a small area ahead.

The wooden planks creaked beneath my feet, like the painful groans of an old mill. Dust danced in the firelight, like countless ghosts scurrying about. The surrounding walls were mottled and grimy, with faint traces of strange symbols and blackened stains.

In the corner, the outline of a dilapidated machine loomed, like a dormant giant. The further she walked, the deeper the chill grew, running from the soles of her feet up her spine, giving her goosebumps. Occasionally, a startled mouse would scurry, its squeaking sound particularly eerie in the dead silence.

Suddenly, a chilling wind blew, and the torch swung violently, the light and shadows flickered, and the surrounding darkness seemed to come alive, pouncing on her with bared fangs and claws. Lin Wunian took a deep breath, gripped the torch tightly in her hand, suppressed the fear in her heart, and continued to move forward cautiously.

Lin Wunian had just stepped into the old mill when the torches suddenly began to shake violently, and the air around him seemed to freeze instantly. A whirring sound echoed in his ears, as if something was moving rapidly in the darkness.

Before she could react, a swarm of dark shadows rushed towards her from all directions. It was a bat with glowing eyes, screaming and sweeping towards her like a black storm. Lin Wunian hurriedly waved the torch to drive them away.

At this moment, the ground beneath his feet began to shake violently, and cracks appeared on the once solid wooden planks, as if something huge was about to break out of the ground. Lin Wunian stumbled and almost fell.

Then, a low roar echoed from the darkness, like a demon from hell. A huge figure slowly emerged from the shadows of the old mill. It was a monster with bloodshot eyes, staring at Lin Wunian intently, as if examining his own meal.

What was this? A mutated zombie? Lin Wunian's eyes widened, his heart trembling as he gazed at the terrifying figure before him. Its festering skin had partially peeled away, revealing its ghastly bones. Parts of its body were still clinging to rotting flesh, emitting a sickening stench. Its movements were stiff yet strangely agile, and every sway made the surrounding air stagnant.

As she had expected, the corpses that had mysteriously appeared and disappeared before had all mutated. Lin Wunian's mind instantly flashed back to the terrified faces of the city's citizens, who were completely unprepared. Now, the entire city was in a desperate precarious situation. These zombies were tireless, attacking the living frantically. They would spread like a plague, bringing death and terror to every corner of the city.

Lin Wunian clenched her fists, a look of determination flashed in her eyes. She couldn't let the city fall, she had to find a solution as soon as possible. She was wary of the zombies in front of her while thinking about how to deal with it.

Lin Wunian suppressed the fear in his heart and quickly scanned the old mill, trying to find a clue to solve the zombie problem from the surrounding environment.

Suddenly, the zombie's rotting body lunged at her like a cannonball, its speed far exceeding Lin Wunian's imagination. It opened its bloody mouth and let out a horrifying roar, sending a gust of fishy wind blasting directly into Lin Wunian's face.

Lin Wunian's heart trembled. She wasn't sure if this was the only zombie in the house. Saving her life was paramount, so she took off without hesitation. Her feet flew, kicking up dust as she ran towards the gate of the old mill.

She could hear the zombies chasing after her, their heavy footsteps echoing like thunder in the cramped space, each step a countdown to death. The old mill was dark and damp, and Lin Wunian nearly tripped over the clutter on the floor several times, but she maintained her balance with her exceptional skills and tenacious will.

The air around her seemed to tremble at her escape, and the shadows on the walls seemed to transform into hideous ghosts, trying to drag her into endless darkness. Lin Wunian's heart was beating like a drum, and sweat soaked her back, but she didn't dare to slack off. Her eyes were fixed on the door that was getting closer and closer. It was her only hope of escaping the threat of death.

Suddenly, two figures appeared at the door, flashing like ghosts. Lin Wunian was startled, and her breathing suddenly became rapid. Could there be zombies at the door as well? This thought flashed through her mind like lightning, and fear surged into her heart like a tide.

"Get out of the way!" she shouted, her voice trembling with nervousness. She wasn't sure what those two figures were. The two figures at the doorway simultaneously moved aside. Lin Wunian seized this fleeting opportunity, summoning her Qinggong skills and darting towards the door like a swallow.

In the blink of an eye, she leaped out the door, then without hesitation, stretched out her hands and slammed it shut. With a bang, the door slammed shut behind her, blocking out any zombies that might be pursuing her. She leaned against the door, breathing heavily, listening to the sounds coming from inside with lingering fear, hoping that this temporary barrier would buy her some time.

"What's wrong? What is that?" Qin Ruoyu's face was filled with astonishment. Before he could finish his words, Lin Wunian had already quickly closed the door. He stared wide-eyed, trying to catch some more information from the crack in the door, but there was only darkness and a faint, terrifying roar.
