God Slayer: Make Up for the Past
Chapter 96: The Truth Revealed: When the Dawn Breaks Through the Fog
Chu Feng abruptly withdrew his hand, his heart pounding. The dim light on the mark, like an eye gazing into the abyss, sent a chill down his spine. "You...what do you know?" He turned to look at Murong Xue, a barely perceptible tremor in his voice.
Murong Xue smiled slightly, a smile that seemed particularly mysterious in the dim tree hole. "I know more than you think." Her cryptic answer did not resolve Chu Feng's doubts, but made him even more uneasy.
Night Watch Supervisor Li coughed impatiently, "Now is not the time to play guessing games. Chu Feng, what did you find?" His sharp eyes swept over the marks on the wall of the tree hole, and his brows were furrowed.
Chu Feng took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "I feel like these markings are related to the missing persons." He pointed at the eye-shaped marking on the wall. "Especially this one. I feel like it..." He paused, as if searching for the right words to describe the eerie feeling. "It feels like it's watching us, monitoring everything."
Just then, Chu Feng's communicator suddenly rang. It was an encrypted call from the family of the missing Zhou. As soon as he answered, the anxious voice of Zhou's family members came over: "Chu Feng, is there any progress? My son... is he still alive?"
Chu Feng clenched his fists, the Zhou family's grief and hope hammering at his heart like a hammer. "We'll do our best, please trust us," he said with difficulty, feeling incredibly powerless.
The sobbing of Zhou's family members came through the communicator, making Chu Feng even more irritated. He turned off the communicator and looked up at Li, the Night Watch Supervisor. "We need more support. This is the mark..."
"What's wrong with the mark?" Night Watch Supervisor Li interrupted him with a hint of suspicion in his tone, "I think you're just trying to delay time. Don't forget your mission, find the missing people as soon as possible, instead of studying these inexplicable things here!"
Chu Feng suppressed his anger. He knew it was pointless to argue with Li Shouye now. He looked at the marks again, his eyes filled with determination. "I will find the truth, no matter the cost."
Pan Yue patted Chu Feng on the shoulder and gave him an encouraging look. "I believe you," he said calmly, "Let's find out the truth together."
Chu Feng nodded, his eyes once again fixed on the eye-shaped mark. He reached out his hand, and this time, instead of flinching, he gently placed his finger on the center of the mark.
A cold energy instantly surged into his body, and pictures emerged in his mind: a foggy forest, a struggling figure, and... a figure hidden in the darkness.
"I..." Chu Feng suddenly withdrew his hand, his face pale, "I saw..."
Murong Xue's eyes flickered. She walked to Chu Feng and whispered, "What did you see?"
Chu Feng didn't answer. He turned to look at Night Watch Supervisor Li, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief. "I know... I know where they are..." He spoke firmly, as if he had seen the light through the fog.
Murong Xue's lips curled up slightly. She reached out and gently stroked the markings on the wall, whispering, "It seems the fun has just begun..." Chu Feng closed his eyes, trying to recall the images that flashed through his mind. Fog, struggle, shadows... These fragmented pieces of information reassembled in his mind, gradually piecing together a complete picture. He took a deep breath and opened his eyes again, a confident glint in his eyes. "I know where they are," he said firmly, his gaze fixed directly on Night Watch Overseer Li.
"Where is it?" The Night Watch Supervisor Li originally had a skeptical look in his eyes, but after meeting Chu Feng's firm gaze, he became a little hesitant.
Chu Feng pointed at the markings on the wall and explained, "These markings aren't simple symbols, but a kind of map. The eyes represent surveillance, and the surrounding lines are the route to the missing location." He slowly traced the lines on the wall with his finger. "Look, these lines twist and turn, ultimately pointing to..." He paused, "deep in the Misty Forest, a place called 'Silent Valley'."
Night Watch Overseer Li carefully examined the markings on the wall, his brow furrowed. Although he still harbored doubts about Chu Feng, his analysis was logical and consistent with some of the information he had previously gathered. He had to admit that Chu Feng might have found a key clue. "Silent Valley..." He repeated the place name in a low voice, and rumors about it surfaced in his mind. It was said to be fraught with danger, so dangerous that even experienced Night Watchmen dared not set foot there.
"Yes, it's the Silent Valley." Chu Feng nodded affirmatively, "The image I saw in my mind is the scene of the missing people trapped in the Silent Valley."
Night Watch Supervisor Li looked at Chu Feng, the suspicion in his eyes gradually fading, replaced by a hint of appreciation. "You did very well, Chu Feng." His tone softened. "It seems I underestimated you before."
Just as Night Watchman Li's attitude toward Chu Feng shifted, Murong Xue, standing nearby, developed an uneasy expression. She had been silently observing Chu Feng, and when he successfully deciphered the message, a subtle flicker of panic crossed her eyes. This subtle change didn't escape Chu Feng's attention, and his suspicions about Murong Xue's identity grew even stronger.
"What's wrong with you?" Chu Feng asked tentatively.
Murong Xue forced a smile and said, "It's nothing. I just think you are amazing. You can actually crack these complicated marks." Her tone was a little stiff and her eyes flickered.
Chu Feng didn't ask any more questions, but his doubts grew deeper and deeper. Murong Xue's reaction was too suspicious. She seemed to be very familiar with these marks and even knew the secrets hidden within them.
Suddenly, a rustling sound came from deep within the tree hole, breaking the tense atmosphere. The ground began to shake slightly, and a chilling aura filled the air.
"Be careful!" Chu Feng suddenly drew his weapon and looked around vigilantly.
In the darkness, several pairs of scarlet eyes slowly lit up, and then a group of small attacking creatures emerged from the depths of the tree hole. They had ferocious faces, made sharp roars, and pounced towards everyone.
"Pan Yue, left wing! Murong Xue, right wing!" Chu Feng quickly made his deployment, his weapon flashing with a cold light, his eyes filled with fighting spirit. "I'll deal with the enemy in front!"
Before he finished speaking, Chu Feng rushed towards the attacking creature in front, swinging his weapon in a series of sharp sword flashes. Pan Yue and Murong Xue also quickly entered combat mode, coordinating tacitly, responding to attacks from different directions.
The battle was about to break out, and the tree hole was suddenly filled with the flashing of swords and the sound of roaring... Murong Xue's mouth curled up slightly, and the weapon in her hand drew a strange trajectory...
Small attacking creatures surged out like a tide. They resembled giant spiders, with sharp fangs and gleaming eyes, emitting chilling roars. Chu Feng's eyes flashed, and he swung his sword. The blade flashed like a silver snake, slicing several of the incoming spiders in half. A green, viscous liquid splashed out, and a fishy smell filled the air.
"Pan Yue, Zuo Yi! Use your ice magic to control their movements!" Chu Feng commanded loudly, while dodging the spider's attacks nimbly.
Upon hearing this, Pan Yue's staff shone, and icicles shot out, accurately striking the spiders surging from the left. The spiders struck by the icicles slowed down drastically, and a thin layer of ice coated their bodies, making them easier targets.
"Murong Xue, right wing! Use your speed advantage to defeat them one by one!" Chu Feng ordered again, and his sword blade swept across again, and another spider fell at his feet.
Murong Xue's movements were lightning fast, the dagger in her hand flashing with cold light. Every strike was incredibly precise, always finding the spider's weakness and killing it instantly. Her figure shuttled through the spider swarm, leaving a trail of afterimages, like a fluttering butterfly, yet carrying a deadly danger.
Chu Feng's swordsmanship was fierce and deadly. He led the frontal assault, drawing the majority of the spiders' attention to himself and creating favorable attacking opportunities for Pan Yue and Murong Xue. The three of them worked in perfect harmony, providing mutual cover and keeping the battle tight and organized.
In less than a quarter of an hour, all the spiders in the tree hole were wiped out. Chu Feng sheathed his sword and stood there, looking around cautiously. After confirming that there was no other danger, he breathed a sigh of relief.
After the battle, Murong Xue quietly walked over to Chu Feng. She lowered her head, as if she wanted to say something, but hesitated. Her fingers nervously twisted the corners of her clothes, and her eyes flickered.
"What's wrong?" Chu Feng noticed Murong Xue's abnormality and asked with concern.
Murong Xue raised her head and looked at Chu Feng. Her lips moved slightly, but in the end she only uttered two words: "It's okay..." Her voice was so low that it was almost inaudible.
Chu Feng looked at Murong Xue with a puzzled look in his heart. He always felt that Murong Xue was hiding something from him, but he didn't know how to ask.
At this moment, the anxious voice of Zhou's missing family came from outside the tree hole: "What's going on? Have you found my child?"
Night Watch Supervisor Li walked to the cave entrance and said in a deep voice, "We have found some clues. Please wait patiently."
Chu Feng ignored the commotion outside and walked deeper into the tree hole, carefully studying the strange markings on the wall. He discovered that in addition to the markings he had seen before, there were some new markings at the deepest part of the tree hole. These markings were more complex and seemed to point to a more mysterious place.
Chu Feng's heart was full of doubts. He stretched out his hand and gently stroked the mark on the wall. He felt a cool touch at his fingertips.
"What do these marks... mean?" He muttered to himself, staring intently at the marks on the wall, as if trying to see through them.
Murong Xue stood behind Chu Feng, silently looking at him with a complicated expression. She opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, nothing came out. She turned and left, leaving Chu Feng with a lonely back.
"Wait..." Chu Feng suddenly said. Murong Xue stopped...
