God Slayer: Make Up for the Past
Chapter 95: Breaking the Mist: The Truth Emerges
Thick fog rolled in, like a snarling monster, greedily devouring all light. The moment Chu Feng stepped into the tree hole, a chill ran through his feet and into his heart, causing him to shudder. The surroundings quickly blurred, and he couldn't see his hand in front of him. Only thick white fog swirled before his eyes, as if he had fallen into a chaotic void.
"Pan Yue! Murong Xue!" Chu Feng shouted loudly, but his voice was distorted and swallowed by the thick fog, like a stone sinking into the sea, without a trace of echo.
His heart tightened, and he instinctively reached out to grab Pan Yue, but only to find emptiness. His companion, who had been so close just a moment ago, was now nowhere to be found. This strange fog seemed to possess some mysterious power, isolating them from each other.
"Pan Yue! Where are you?" Chu Feng called out again, his voice tinged with barely concealed anxiety. He strained to see through the thick fog, but it was in vain. The fog, like a living thing, constantly shifted its form, making it impossible to tell direction or reality.
At this moment, a stern voice came from not far away: "What are you panicking about! This little fog has made you lose your composure? This is really embarrassing for the Night's Watch!"
It was Supervisor Li. Chu Feng looked in the direction of the voice, but could only vaguely see a blurry figure. He suppressed his uneasiness and tried to keep his tone calm: "Supervisor Li, Pan Yue and Murong Xue are gone."
"Hmph, it's just some deception. Can you really eat them?" Supervisor Li said with disdain. "Everyone, cheer up. Follow me closely and don't fall behind!"
Although Supervisor Li's tone was firm, Chu Feng could still sense the tension hidden beneath it. This fog was clearly more bizarre than they had imagined.
Chu Feng took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. He concentrated, trying to sense everything around him. Although the fog was thick, it was not completely imperceptible. He vaguely felt that something seemed to be surging and breathing deep in the fog...
Suddenly, he felt a faint breath, which flashed by. It was Pan Yue's breath!
"Supervisor Li, I feel Pan Yue, he's over there!" Chu Feng pointed in a direction with a firm tone.
Supervisor Li snorted coldly, "Nonsense! In this fog, how accurate can your perception be? Don't get lost yourself and then drag me down with you!"
Chu Feng ignored Supervisor Li's doubts, trusting his intuition. He gripped his sword tightly and gazed resolutely into the depths of the fog.
"Pan Yue, wait for me!" Chu Feng whispered and walked towards that direction resolutely.
"Hey! Stop right there!" Supervisor Li's voice sounded behind him, but it couldn't stop Chu Feng from moving forward.
He felt that something was calling him from the depths of the fog...some truth was about to be revealed...
"Wait for me!" A clear voice came from behind. It was Murong Xue. Chu Feng pushed through the thick fog and moved forward resolutely in the direction he sensed. Supervisor Li complained discontentedly, but he followed closely behind Chu Feng, not daring to fall behind. Murong Xue followed silently without saying a word, a complex light flickering in her eyes.
"Chu Feng, are you sure this is the way?" Supervisor Li said with a hint of doubt in his tone, "This fog is very strange. Don't let it lead us all into trouble."
Chu Feng ignored Supervisor Li's questioning. He concentrated intently on sensing Pan Yue's presence. Though faint, it was like a beacon in the darkness, guiding him in his direction. His steps were steady, his gaze sharp, as if he could penetrate the numerous obstacles in the fog.
"It's just ahead!" Chu Feng suddenly stopped, with a hint of joy in his tone.
Sure enough, after clearing the last layer of fog, Pan Yue appeared before them. He was leaning against a huge tree root, his face pale and as if frightened.
"Pan Yue! Are you okay?" Chu Feng stepped forward quickly and asked with concern.
"I'm fine, it's just this fog..." Pan Yue raised his head, a hint of fear in his eyes, "It can confuse people's minds. I just... I just saw a lot of scary things..."
"Don't be afraid, we are all here." Chu Feng patted Pan Yue's shoulder and said firmly, "Now we are together again."
Seeing Chu Feng actually find Pan Yue, Supervisor Li's eyes flashed with surprise. He had originally thought Chu Feng was just bluffing, but he hadn't expected him to actually find Pan Yue through his own abilities. This young man was far more capable than he had imagined.
Murong Xue also walked over to Pan Yue and whispered a few words of comfort. Her eyes fell on Chu Feng from time to time, with a hint of subtle admiration in her eyes.
Just when everyone relaxed their vigilance a little, something strange happened.
The mist within the tree hollow suddenly began to churn violently, like boiling water. As the mist swirled, it transformed into all sorts of terrifying shapes, lunging at the crowd with bared fangs and claws. There were hideous monsters, eerie white-bone skeletons, and twisted, deformed ghostly figures, all emitting bursts of shrill roars.
Pan Yue's face paled with fear, and he clutched Chu Feng's arm tightly. Supervisor Li's expression also changed drastically, and he drew his weapon, ready for battle. Murong Xue quickly stepped back, a faint glow gathering in her hand.
Chu Feng swept his gaze over the crowd and said in a deep voice, "Everyone, be careful! These things that appear out of the mist may look terrifying, but they are probably not physical entities. Don't be scared by them!"
Before he finished speaking, a huge skeleton hand grabbed at Chu Feng. Chu Feng didn't panic at all. A gleam of light flashed in his eyes, and he swung the sword in his hand suddenly. A sharp sword energy cut through the fog and split the skeleton hand in half.
"Everyone, come together! Don't let these things get close!" Chu Feng shouted and rushed forward first. The long sword in his hand was like a dragon, weaving through the fog and splitting the phantoms one after another.
Murong Xue also began to cast spells. The fluorescent spots were like flying fireflies, floating in the mist, coordinating with Chu Feng's sword energy to disperse the approaching phantoms one by one.
Supervisor Li was surprised to see Chu Feng so brave, and he also picked up his weapon and joined the battle. Although he still had some distrust of Chu Feng, he now understood that only by working together could they overcome this difficulty.
"These things... seem to be getting more and more..." Pan Yue's voice trembled. He hugged his head tightly, as if he was about to collapse.
Chu Feng looked back at Pan Yue, a hint of determination flashed in his eyes, "Pan Yue, protect yourself!" He swung the sword in his hand more rapidly, and the sword energy was so strong that it chopped all the phantoms approaching Pan Yue into pieces.
He felt a powerful force surge from within him. The sword in his hand, as if sensing his will, uttered a resounding jingle. He raised his head, his gaze blazing as he stared intently into the depths of the mist. He spoke, each word measured, "Come out!" Chu Feng's sword danced like a violent storm, its energies crisscrossing and tearing through the mist. Each swing was accompanied by the shrill roars of the eidolons and the fading glow of their light. His swift movements, like a god of war possessed, slew all the approaching ghostly monsters one by one.
Murong Xue's fluorescent magic danced gracefully in the mist like a nimble spirit. The dots of light seemed weak, but they contained great power. They intertwined with Chu Feng's sword energy, forming an impenetrable defense net that drove away those who slipped through the net one by one.
Night Watchman Li had initially doubted Chu Feng's abilities, but upon witnessing his heroic display, he was filled with amazement. He had never seen a trainee Night Watchman possess such formidable strength and such a calm aura. He gripped his weapon tightly, not daring to slack off even a moment, striving to keep pace with Chu Feng and Murong Xue, repelling the approaching transmogrifications.
The battle raged for a long time, the misty illusions seemingly endless, emerging in wave after wave. Murong Xue's face gradually paled, and her breathing became rapid, clearly due to excessive physical exhaustion.
A giant skull roared and lunged towards Murong Xue, about to devour her. At the critical moment, Chu Feng swung his sword back, smashing the skull into pieces and simultaneously pulling Murong Xue behind him.
"Are you okay?" Chu Feng asked with concern.
Murong Xue leaned on Chu Feng's back, feeling the warmth and strength coming from him, and an indescribable sense of dependence surged in her heart. She shook her head slightly and said softly, "I'm fine, just a little tired."
"Take a break," Chu Feng said firmly, "I'll protect you."
He swung the sword in his hand more violently, blocking all the approaching phantoms one by one, buying Murong Xue a chance to catch her breath.
At that moment, Murong Xue suddenly raised her head, her gaze fixed on the depths of the fog, a strange light flashing in her eyes. She took a deep breath, and began to gather an even more powerful energy in her hands, which flickered with fluorescence, illuminating her resolute face.
"Chu Feng, be careful!" Murong Xue suddenly reminded.
Chu Feng's heart trembled, and he immediately became alert. He felt a strong sense of oppression coming from the depths of the fog, as if something terrible was awakening.
The fog rolled more violently, and the transformed creatures became more ferocious. They let out deafening roars and rushed towards everyone frantically. Chu Feng and Li Shouye fought hard, but felt powerless.
Suddenly, a sharp roar came from the depths of the fog, and all the phantoms stopped attacking, retreating like the tide and disappearing without a trace.
The fog gradually dissipated, revealing the scene deep in the tree hole.
Chu Feng looked around warily and noticed some strange markings carved into the walls of the tree hole. He had never seen these markings before, yet they gave him an inexplicable sense of familiarity... He slowly reached out and touched the cold markings, and a thought suddenly came to his mind: These markings seemed to have some connection to the missing people...
"What are these?" Li Shouye walked forward with a hint of doubt in his tone.
Chu Feng didn't answer. His gaze rested on a mark that resembled an eye, emitting a dim light... He felt a cold breath coming from the mark, as if it was about to devour him...
He suddenly withdrew his hand and turned to look at Murong Xue, "You..."
