Legend of Mir 2: Seeking the Truth in Marfa
Chapter 28: Evil Pincers
The two decided to go deep into the Centipede Cave to search for the evil pincer worm. The terrain of the Centipede Cave was intricate and complex. The Amethyst House in front of them had three exits. One led to the south of the first floor of the dungeon where they came from, and the other two exits led to unknown destinations.
"Wait a moment, I'll check the map." Brook took out his notes, found the detailed map of the Centipede Cave in the cave chapter, and studied it carefully.
After a few minutes, Brooke closed his notebook. He had already memorized the map in his mind and a plan for reaching the depths.
"Follow me." Brook took Bayin and walked out of the cave in the lower right corner of the Amethyst House.
The two entered a cave called Dungeon Level 7 North. As soon as they emerged, they were immediately surrounded by a swarm of centipedes and pincer worms. Brook's Little White was already level 10, his name already a deep blue, and his attack power reached 46-5. His reaction speed, movement speed, and attack speed were also extremely fast. Without waiting for Brook's instructions, Little White, with his small axe in hand, stomped along in a few steps, acting as a vanguard and charging into the herd of monsters. Bayin's five wheel babies were not far behind, rolling and jumping in all directions, crashing into the surrounding monsters.
This cave was full of monsters. It was already 6 a.m., and apparently early birds weren't common, so no one was leveling up here. The two treated it as a normal leveling exercise, taking their time to clear out the monsters. While the centipede didn't have as much experience as the boar in the Stone Tomb, with the help of the pet, leveling was incredibly efficient. After a while, Bayin's entire body flashed with golden light, reaching level 27. Originally, she and Brooke had similar experience levels, but last night, Bayin had trained alone in the Stone Tomb for three hours, recruiting a pet and leveling up, so she leveled up first.
Brook Bayin cleared the monsters all the way to the lower left corner, arriving at a cave entrance and entering a small cave chamber called Stone Road Creek. Clear streams flanked the chamber. The source of the water was unknown, but the mere sound of the gurgling water was refreshing. Brook scooped up some water and washed his face, feeling instantly refreshed. This proved to be a perfect spot for rest, and the two paused for a few minutes to admire the scenery. Unfortunately, they had a mission to complete, so they exited through the other side of the cave.
Exiting the cave, there were another swarm of monsters. This centipede cave was quite interesting. Often, a large cave full of monsters would be connected to a smaller room without monsters. It seemed that they knew the monks had just experienced a battle and specially provided a safe place for the monks to rest. After resting, the exit was connected to the large monster cave again.
This place is called the Dark Zone. It's a very large space. According to the map, there are many entrances. This place is not like the previous cave room, but is located on the cliffs at the bottom of the valley. This environment, coupled with monsters such as centipedes, worms, and pincer worms crawling around, is even more eerie and terrifying. Bayin's face was not good, and Brook also frowned, wanting only to leave this place as soon as possible and enter the next cave. While clearing out the monsters, the two of them walked slowly and cautiously. They were only monks, not immortals. If they accidentally stepped on air and fell into this bottomless cliff, they would surely die. No matter how high their level was, it would be useless. They had to be more cautious. Brook chose the nearest entrance and slowly walked southeast for an hour. Finally, he saw a cave appearing on a rock wall. This was the entrance to the Netherworld Sanctuary.
The Netherworld Sanctuary wasn't a resting place, but rather a cave teeming with monsters. Bayin and his companions breathed a sigh of relief. While the monsters were densely packed here, it was at least a cave, no longer as dangerous as the cliffs of the Dark Zone. The children formed a circle around the cave entrance, and Bayin launched a wall of fire at the surrounding monsters. Unfortunately, the centipedes, jumping bees, and other monsters were slow to move, significantly reducing the fire wall's effectiveness. It wasn't nearly as satisfying as the burn in the Stone Tomb. However, against such a dense swarm, a sustained area-of-effect damage skill like the Fire Wall was still necessary. Even with its less powerful attack, it was still far more effective than a single lightning attack.
After clearing out the monsters near the cave entrance, they walked a short distance further when they suddenly heard a "Jang-Jang-Jang" sound emanating from the mouthparts of a monster they had never heard before. Bayinbuluke paused and glanced at each other, each suspecting it was likely the sinister Pincer Worm they had never encountered before. Brooke took two slow steps forward and spotted a large, silvery-white insect among the herd. It was five or six times larger than a typical Pincer Worm, and its gleaming silver armor made it obvious that it was tough and formidable. The pressure it exuded was even greater than that of the white boar in the stone tomb.
This was the Evil Pincer Worm, with 1000 HP, 22-45 Attack, 20 Defense, and 10 Magic Resistance. With a defense of 20, I'm afraid many level 20+ warriors wouldn't be able to break through it. Furthermore, according to Situ Haoyun's records, this creature could also counter invisibility!
Not only that, the evil pincer worm is covered with such thick silver armor, but it moves very fast, which shows how powerful it is.
"There is an evil pincer worm in the monster pile. Let's clear out the monsters around first, and then deal with it later." Brooke said hello to Bayin, took two steps forward, attracted the hatred of the monsters, and then retreated. In the centipede cave, except for the black evil maggots, the monsters such as centipedes, jumping bees, pincer worms, etc., moved very slowly. So every time Brooke went to attract them, he didn't dare to run, and could only walk step by step, for fear that the monsters could not keep up. Even so, the monsters that fell behind the team would still fall behind, and I don't know what the monsters like centipedes have so many legs for.
After the two of them had cleared out the ordinary monsters, a large open space opened up nearby. Brooke used poison to lure the evil pincer worm into the clearing, then used telepathy to cause it to display a health bar, deciding not to attack immediately. He stepped forward and let the evil pincer worm strike him a few times. While the damage was less than that of the white boar, it was still quite painful. He then tried invisibility and found that the evil pincer worm could still hit him, though it wouldn't break his invisibility like the wedge moth could.
After Brook confirmed the damage done to the monster, he and Bayin stood face to face from a distance, and together they attacked the evil pincer worm with ranged attack skills. Xiaobai and Bayin's five pets also rushed forward, besieging the evil pincer worm. With so many attacks coming at the evil pincer worm together, it should have been killed quickly, but it wasn't. The evil pincer worm's health bar dropped very slowly, and the pets' physical attacks made it difficult to break through its high defense. Even a level 5 Xiaobai could only take a little over 7 points of damage each time. Fortunately, Bayin's lightning technique was still powerful, and with the bonus of poison, it could deal a considerable 10-30 points of damage each time.
The two of them, along with their six pets, attacked the evil pincer worm for a while, until its health bar was finally emptied. The evil pincer worm seemed unwilling to give up, and before dying, it used all its strength to jump up, rolled over again, and finally exposed its belly, completely dead. However, it only dropped two ordinary equipment, and no other potions.
A boss-level monster only dropped two pieces of equipment? Brook and Bayin found it a bit strange, but they were still happy because this was their first Evil Pincer Worm. The appearance of such a boss-level monster here meant they were deep within the Centipede Cave. They didn't plan to stay there, as boss-level monsters often take a long time to spawn, like the Corpse King and the White Boar, which could take an hour or two.
Brook collected the corpses of the evil pincer worms and put them in his backpack. The backpack in Marfa is a magical space, and each slot can store an item, whether it is a bottle of potion, a weapon, or even the corpse of an evil pincer worm, no matter the size.
We continued exploring. The entrance to the Netherworld Sanctuary was in the upper left corner of the map, while the exit was in the upper right. The path in the middle was quite winding, so we followed the upper section. After more than 20 minutes, we finally reached the exit. Unexpectedly, we encountered a second Evil Pincer Worm!
"Why is there another one?" Brook was also very surprised. He knew that this Netherworld Sanctuary wasn't the deepest part of the Centipede Cave, and the entire map was not very large. He had thought that encountering one would be great, but he didn't expect there would be another one. How many were there on this map?
Let's kill this one first. Brook and Bayin worked together to kill the evil pincer worm, and it exploded again. This time, in addition to 2 ordinary equipment, a bottle of blessed oil also exploded. According to Xiaoxia fans, applying blessed oil to weapons has a probability of increasing the luck value of the weapons. The luck value directly affects the probability of triggering the upper limit of attack. Brook thought about it, handed the blessed oil to Bayin, and suggested that Bayin use it now. Because Bayin's attack output is the main force, the higher her attack, the faster the leveling efficiency of the two. Since the evil pincer worm has a chance to explode blessed oil, I believe there will be more later, so there is no need to save it. It is more important to enhance the combat effectiveness.
Bayin knew the blessed oil was a valuable item, likely worth hundreds of thousands of gold coins. She only had 30 gold coins on her, and she felt reluctant to use it now. Although she held a level 26 wand, it wasn't a top-tier weapon. Bayin placed the blessed oil in her backpack, intending to wait for the right opportunity to use it.
"Wait a minute, don't you want to see your babies rebel? It's only a minute until two hours, and I'm sure they'll rebel." After the two of them cleared out the remaining monsters near the exit, Bayin directed her five wheeled babies to disperse and rest where they were. Bayin would not waste this minute, probably sitting down to meditate and rest. However, in this centipede cave, with its dead centipedes scattered everywhere, she couldn't sit still.
The five wheel babies were now frozen in place. They were already level 5, the same dark blue as the skeleton baby Xiaobai, and had Bayin's name suffixed to their names. After a while, one of the black evil maggots suddenly took off on its own, losing the Bayin suffix and transforming into a level 7 black evil maggot. It quickly rolled towards a wheel baby not far away and launched a fierce attack, completely forgetting that it was a comrade.
Brook watched quietly from the side and cast a mental revelation skill on the rebellious baby. He found that there was only a trace of health left on its health bar. He estimated that Bayin only needed one lightning spell to kill it.
Bayin still ordered the remaining four wheel babies to stand still. She walked over to the rebellious black evil maggot, repelled it with a ring of resistance fire, and then cast the light of temptation on the traitor, hoping to recruit it as her baby again. Unexpectedly, this level 4 black evil maggot was very stubborn. After only three temptations, it exploded and died, and also exploded two bottles of medium-sized potions.
"That's it. If it rebels, it's very difficult to seduce it again. While it sometimes succeeds, it can also kill it." Bayin said helplessly. She had finally lured this evil maggot baby back to the first floor of the Centipede Cave dungeon, spending three minutes and nearly 3 uses of the Temptation Light to finally seduce it. Now, it had mercilessly rebelled, and she had no idea why.
"Did you see anything?" Bayin asked unwillingly. Maybe Brook could see something.
"I can't tell. The moment of betrayal just now was too fast." Brook shook his head and said, maybe after observing many times, he would find something.
"It will rebel again in a few minutes." The mage's summoning pet skill is a bit useless because the pet can only last for 2 hours. It would be great if it could be like the Taoist's pet and not rebel. Bayin sighed softly, then took a deep breath and said, "It's okay, I'll just seduce it again."
"I have a suggestion. Why don't we clean out the entire Netherworld Sanctuary? You can lure your baby back here, and we can see if there are any more evil clawworms." In two days, they'd only cleared the upper half of the Netherworld Sanctuary. There was still a small portion of the lower half they hadn't explored. There might still be evil clawworms.
So the two of them didn't wait for the babies to rebel anymore. Bayin commanded the remaining four babies to go downstairs and quickly rushed into the group of monsters, allowing them to exert their last bit of energy before they rebelled.
As Brook fought, he kept an eye on Bayin's babies, watching them rebel, one by one, turning against Bayin and attacking him, before finally being slain by lightning. Brook seemed to sense something, but he couldn't put his finger on it. It was still blurry, unclear. He shook his head and said nothing.
Bayin spent another 20 minutes, finally summoning five more maggot babies. These new ones were all level 5, with attack speed, movement speed, damage, and health far inferior to those of level 0. Fortunately, Brook was there, able to heal Bayin's babies. With so many monsters here, Bayin's newly summoned wheel babies would surely reach level 7 again soon.
While Bayin summoned his baby, Brook was busy fighting alone, along with Xiaobai. After Bayin arrived, the two spent another 20 minutes clearing out the monsters in the cave. Ultimately, they encountered no more evil pincer worms.
It seems that there are only those two evil pincer worms in this Netherworld Sanctuary.
And only two items dropped. It wasn't even a small drop, just a micro-drop. If it hadn't been for the blessed oil, I'd have doubted it was even a boss.
It has high defense, thick blood and low explosion rate. This is the first time that Brook has encountered such a unique leader monster.
