Legend of Mir 2: Seeking the Truth in Marfa
Chapter 29 Touching the Dragon God
Brook and Bayin emerged from the Netherworld Sanctuary and entered another cave infested with monsters, called the Horror Space. This cave was shaped like a U-shaped triangle, with the entrance at the innermost part. By circling counterclockwise, they reached the exit to another cave.
The monsters within the Centipede Cave lacked the high-attack black and white boars, nor the wedge moths that could counter invisibility and petrify. Instead, they consisted of slow-moving, low-attack centipedes and pincer worms. These posed no threat to the two men. Even in the midst of a swarm of monsters, a single act of collective invisibility would have been sufficient to defeat them. Furthermore, Bayin now possessed five wheel babies, so the two of them completely crushed them.
After the two of them walked half a circle around the horror space, Brook flashed with golden light and also reached level 27. However, level 27 did not improve any skills, but only increased his health to 203.
After walking a bit further, I finally encountered another Evil Pincer. After a fight, this Evil Pincer finally gave up and dropped some Strong Sun Water and 3 ordinary equipment. Although it wasn't as big as the White Boar's big drop, it was still a small drop, much better than the two small drops I encountered before.
Brooke guessed there was at least one more evil pincer worm in the cave. The two continued forward, walking counterclockwise through the entire terrifying space. As expected, when they reached the exit, they encountered another evil pincer worm. Brooke's prediction was correct; this relatively small cave only had two bosses.
This was the fourth Evil Claw Worm in the two-player mission. After they killed it, it unexpectedly exploded. Not only did it drop another bottle of Blessed Oil, but it also dropped a Platinum Ring: 4-0 Taoism, requiring 4 Spirit Points.
Brooke picked up the platinum ring and was puzzled: this evil claw worm exploded slightly, then a small explosion, and then a big explosion. What did it mean? He really couldn't see any difference and had no idea.
But Brook wouldn't dwell on that. If he couldn't see it, then he couldn't see it. It didn't matter. No matter if it was a big explosion or a small explosion, he would just kill them all.
After the two of them eliminated all the monsters in the terrifying space, they exited the cave. This place, called "One Line Sky," wasn't a cave, but rather a cliff face like the Dark Zone. This type of terrain was the most challenging, as one had to deal with the monsters while also being wary of the nearby abyss.
The narrow passage was quite large. Brooke's plan was to cross the entire narrow passage from the upper left corner of the map to the death coffin in the lower right corner. This section of the route was difficult to navigate. It took them over half an hour to reach the lower right corner. They then spotted a vicious pincer worm at the entrance to the cliff.
Brook deduced that since this narrow sky belonged to the depths of the Centipede Cave, there must be at least two evil pincer worms. He originally thought that he was unlucky and would not encounter any, but he did encounter one in the end. He quickly killed it, and surprisingly, another big drop. Unfortunately, apart from the powerful sun water, there were only some ordinary equipment, not even a blessed oil. Brook picked up the dropped equipment very calmly. He would not expect every boss monster to drop good equipment. As the saying goes, the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. If you don't have extravagant expectations, you won't be disappointed. Whatever the monster wants to drop, just let it go. The two entered the cave, and inside was the deepest part of the Centipede Cave, the Death Coffin.
This death coffin is not a cave, but a canyon in the deepest part of the Death Valley. The entire death coffin is in the shape of a tilted "human", narrow and deep. Except for the relatively open entrance, which is shielded by rock walls and relatively safe; the rest of the canyon is on both sides of a bottomless abyss, pitch black and daunting. The narrowest part of the canyon can only accommodate two people walking side by side. Not to mention leveling up here, even walking requires extreme caution. But Brook still decided to come here. Since this is the deepest part, the number of evil pincer worms must be the largest. Moreover, according to Situ Haoyun's description, in addition to the evil pincer worms, there is another kind of leader monster, and he also wants to see it.
Brook and Bayin cleared the monsters near the entrance to the Death Coffin and began advancing. The monsters were densely packed here, requiring Brook to frequently cast healing spells on the five Wheelie Babies. They and the Skeleton Little White were at the forefront, constantly enduring the monsters' attacks. Little White had high defense and quick regeneration, so occasional care was sufficient. However, the Wheelie Babies were struggling. If it weren't for Brook, Bayin wouldn't have let them charge freely into the monster herd. Instead, he would have drawn the monsters one by one with lightning before unleashing the Babies to attack them en masse.
With the wardens holding the front line, Bayin unleashed a wall of fire and explosive flames at the monsters in the back. The monsters were slain en masse by the flames, and their experience points soared. Unfortunately, this type of group attack magic consumed a lot of potions, and Bayin had already used up his own. He had just asked Brook for 20 bundles of magic potions. Unlike the Stone Tomb, there were no merchants selling items here, so potions were quite precious. If it weren't for Brook's large backpack and the large amount of potions he had brought, they could have returned to the city to buy some.
Entering a narrow strip of land at the head of the V-shaped structure, they finally heard the "crack, crack, crack" sound of a vicious pincer worm. The two of them killed it, their sixth. This one only exploded slightly, but it yielded a prayer ring with a magic power of 6-1, a perfect match for Bayin's. With this prayer ring, Bayin's magic power surpassed 5, reaching 30-8, further improving his leveling efficiency.
The two followed the path to a fork. Brook checked the potions in his backpack and resolutely chose the lower path. After defeating several waves of monsters, they encountered the second evil claw worm in the death coffin. This time, they were lucky enough to find a memory helmet with 3-3 defense and a bottle of blessing oil. The memory helmet had good stats, but not as good as the other two's prayer helmets. Brook put it in his backpack for storage and gave the blessing oil to Bayin.
Continuing to clear the monsters on the road, another 20 minutes later, the two arrived at the southernmost part of the Death Coffin. There was no road ahead, only a dark abyss. Brook stopped and said to Bayin, "There may be a powerful monster ahead. You wait here for a while, I will go to explore the way first."
According to Situ Haoyun, in this corner lies an enormous Dragon Toucher. It has 1000 HP, 0 Defense, 100 Magic Resistance, 15-30 Attack, and a group-poison attack. While the Dragon Toucher's attack power isn't high, it reminds Brook of the Evil Centipede the owner of the Stone Tomb Weapon Shop described. The Dragon Toucher's shape and attack methods are strikingly similar to the legendary Evil Centipede, leading Brook to wonder if this so-called Evil Centipede is actually an Elite Dragon Toucher. Just like ordinary wild boars and elite wild boars, like a white wild boar with 55 Attack and a white wild boar with 100 Attack, perhaps even the leader monsters have ordinary and elite tiers.
Brook was extremely cautious. If he had encountered a regular boss like the Dragon Toucher, it would have been fine. But if he had encountered an elite boss like the Evil Centipede, it would have been extremely dangerous. So he told Bayin not to go forward, and he sent Xiaobai over to test the waters first.
Brook directed Xiaobai to walk towards the cliff. When Xiaobai reached the edge of the cliff, a sudden gust of wind blew up from the abyss in front of him. A huge centipede suddenly emerged halfway from the abyss and sprayed venom at a large area in front of it. Xiaobai immediately lost more than 20 points of blood, and his originally white bones were dyed green. This was a symptom of being poisoned by the green poison, and he would continue to lose blood.
Brook watched closely. This giant centipede, named Dragon Touch, only took away 20 HP from Xiaobai's attack. Its attack power wasn't high, so it clearly wasn't an evil centipede. It turned out he'd just scared himself, a false alarm.
Bayin was startled by the sudden appearance of the giant centipede. Fortunately, she and Brook were watching from a distance and were not within the attack range of the Dragon God.
The Dragon Touch's poison damage to Xiaobai was only 2.5 health points every 4 seconds, well within a tolerable range. Brook slowly approached, preparing to use Heal on Xiaobai. Generally speaking, even ranged skills have a limited range, such as Heal, Mind Revelation, and Soul Fire Talisman, with a maximum range of 8 tiles. Unsure of the Dragon Touch's range, he slowly approached and tried. When he reached 8 tiles behind Xiaobai, he found himself just outside the Dragon Touch's range.
Brook paused, standing eight squares away from Xiaobai, and healed Xiaobai several times. Then, he took another step forward, entering the attack range of the Dragon Toucher. Facing the Dragon Toucher's attack, he unleashed a Mind Revelation and another Green Poison. Just as Brook was about to unleash the Red Poison, he suddenly froze, petrified!
Brook was helpless. Luckily, his Magic Resistance was high at over 20, so the Dragon Toucher only dealt him over 10 damage. Five seconds passed, and just as the petrification was lifted, he suddenly stiffened again, petrified again. This continuous petrification startled Brook. Another five seconds passed, but fortunately, he wasn't petrified again. Brook quickly stepped back, out of the Dragon Toucher's attack range. He quickly took a Golden Healing Potion and used Healing on Xiaobai to replenish his health.
Brook had originally wanted to cast a Soul Fire Talisman on the Dragon Toucher, hoping to test his Magic Resistance to see if it was truly 100. But after being repeatedly petrified, he felt a bit scared. He decided to let Bayin take over. Even if Bayin was repeatedly petrified, he could still heal her, so she wouldn't be in danger.
"Bayin, help me fight this Dragon Toucher, try its magic defense, and see if the mage can defeat it. Its group poison attack may petrify people, I will help you heal." Brook said to Bayin.
Bayin came to Brook's side, took a step forward, and attacked him with lightning several times, but did not cause any damage. It seemed that he could only rely on the baby's physical attacks.
"Do you want me to send the wheel baby to attack?" Bayin asked.
"No need, just let my skeleton chop it, it will be done soon." Brook concentrated on healing Xiaobai. If Bayin's babies all went up, he would not have enough time to heal them.
The level 7 Skeleton Baby attacked quickly, and after 40 seconds, the Dragon Toucher was killed, dropping a ton of items. A top-grade gold bracelet with a Magic Defense of 1-2, an Attack of 3-0, and a Magic of 1-0. Two more Magic points were added, which I gave to Bayin. There was also a staff, which I picked up and saw was the Taoist Wuji Staff: Attack of 2-2, Magic of 8-16, and a Spiritual Power requirement of 3. Brook's current Magic of 5 was a perfect 25, so he immediately replaced the 25-1 Demon Subduing Skill.
"I've noticed you're incredibly lucky. We've only been in the Centipede Cave for four hours, and we've already gotten several pieces of equipment. When I was alone, I wouldn't get any equipment for days," Bayin exclaimed. A platinum ring, a prayer ring, a memory helmet, a premium gold bracelet, and the Wuji staff—so many items dropped in just four hours.
"That's because we fight fast together. If I had gone through the Centipede Cave alone, I'd probably still be wandering around the narrow gap right now, and I wouldn't have had the chance to fight these monster bosses." Brook didn't think he was lucky. It was just that killing more monster bosses naturally resulted in more equipment.
"I hope I can always be this lucky," Bayin said softly. She had only known Brook for a short time, and now she had almost completely replaced her ordinary equipment.
"At least the good luck will continue in the Centipede Cave," Brooke replied. So far, they'd only killed seven Vicious Pincers. Each Vicious Pincer represented a chance to find equipment, so there were at least 7 more chances for good luck in the Centipede Cave.
Brooke looked toward the Death Coffin's entrance in the distance, feeling a little worried. The Divine Turtle had mentioned that many people leveled up in the Centipede Cave during the day. It was already past 8 a.m. Could someone be coming to the Death Coffin to level up?
How could a place where you could level up and find equipment without anyone coming? Even if it was far away, anyone who could enter here was a smart person. And it wouldn't be just one person, but at least a small group.
There are many smart people in this world, even more smarter than you.
