The Rebirth of the God of Law: The Lord of the God Realm
Chapter 5: First Show of Strength (2)
First Show of Talent (Part 2)
Carl's astonishing performance in the clan competition was like a stone dropped into a calm lake, stirring up ripples. His brilliance was so dazzling that jealousy grew like wild weeds in the hearts of some of the younger clan members.
At the family's training ground, several young members of the clan gathered, their eyes filled with resentment. One of them, Ivan, sneered, "Hmph, Carl, that guy's just lucky. Why does he get so much attention?" Another member chimed in, "That's right. He's so smug, it's really annoying." They were unscrupulously slandering Carl behind his back, their words like poisonous arrows swiping from the shadows, attempting to tarnish his reputation.
Furthermore, during training, they also attempted to trip up Carl. Once, while practicing a new magic circle, Carl needed to gather specific magical materials. When he arrived at the warehouse where the materials were stored, as instructed, he discovered they were missing. Carl frowned, realizing it was deliberate, but he kept quiet and quietly searched for replacements.
Another time, during combat training, Carl's opponent, taking advantage of his instructor's inattention, secretly increased the power of his attack. The magical attack surged toward Carl like a surging wave, a swampy wave of earth and water magic, emitting a pungent, fishy smell and streaked with sharp rocks. If struck, Carl would surely be injured. But Carl reacted quickly. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes. He stomped his feet on the ground, unleashing the "Wind Leap" spell, leaping high into the air and dodging the sudden attack. Steadying himself in the air, he glared at his opponent coldly, offering no rebuke. He simply turned back to training, unwilling to be distracted by such trivial matters. His goal was to achieve greater magical power.
Carl devoted almost all of his time and energy to improving his magical abilities. Every day at dawn, he would return to the family's mountainside, where he found a tranquil place for magical practice. Surrounded by ancient trees, their branches rustling in the breeze, they seemed to tell stories of ancient magic. In the clearing at the center of the woods, Carl began his day of practice, facing the rising sun. He began with a magical meditation, allowing his magic to converge like a trickle into a rushing river. Then, he began practicing various magic combinations, attempting to combine magical elements of different properties in new ways.
During one training session, he attempted to combine light magic with spatial magic. He closed his eyes, concentrating, his wand trembling slightly, emitting a soft glow. As he chanted a complex incantation, the space around him began to distort, and rays of light pierced through the distorted space, like a brilliant galaxy being crushed in a vortex. This was an extremely dangerous magical experiment; even the slightest misstep could result in severe injury from the spatial backlash. But Carl showed no fear. He constantly adjusted his magic power output and the rhythm of his incantations. After countless failures, he finally succeeded in achieving a brief, yet stable, fusion of light and spatial magic. This breakthrough elevated his understanding of magic to a new level.
Just as Carl was immersed in a world of magical enhancement, the town was struck by an unexpected crisis. A herd of magical beasts burst forth from the forest, charging towards the town. These beasts were enormous and terrifying. One resembled a cheetah, its fur shimmering with an eerie purple light, each hair like a sharp needle. Its eyes shone a bloodthirsty red, and its speed was as fast as lightning. Another resembled a giant bear, its body covered in tough scales. Every step it took caused a tremor in the ground, and the flames it spewed from its mouth could instantly set houses ablaze.
The town was thrown into chaos, with people screaming in terror and fleeing in all directions. The family's magicians were mobilized to defend themselves against the magical beasts. Among them was Carl, his eyes determined, unfazed. Wand in hand, he swiftly charged the beasts.
A cheetah-like magical beast spotted Carl, and with a roar, it pounced towards Carl. Carl dodged to the side, easily avoiding the beast's attack. At the same time, he waved the magic wand in his hand, and a wind blade magic flew towards the beast. The wind blade cut through the air, making a sharp whistling sound, but the magical beast was extremely agile. It flipped in the air and dodged the wind blade. Carl frowned, knowing that he could not underestimate the enemy. He quickly changed his magic, fusing the wind blade magic with ice magic. In an instant, a thick layer of ice covered the wind blade, greatly increasing its power. He shot at the beast again, but this time, the magical beast was unable to dodge and was hit on the hind legs by the ice wind blade. It let out a painful roar, but this only aroused its ferocity.
It lunged at Carl again, even faster than before. Carl remained calm, steadying himself. He chanted a spell, and a massive ice shield quickly formed before him. The magical beast slammed into the shield, cracking it but still blocking its attack. Carl seized the opportunity to cast the "Binding Light" spell. A golden beam emanated from the tip of his wand, enveloping the magical beast. The magical beast struggled in the light, but the more it struggled, the tighter the restraints became.
Just as Carl was about to subdue the magical beast, the giant bear-like beast charged toward him. Its every step shook the ground, and flames from its mouth raged like a raging sea of fire. Sensing a profound threat, Carl quickly cast a "space shift" spell and, in a flash, appeared on a nearby rooftop. The bear's attack missed, leaving a massive crater in the street.
Carl took a deep breath. He knew he had to deal with these magical beasts quickly, or the town would be utterly destroyed. He decided to use a combination of magic he had recently developed. He raised his wand high and muttered a long, complex spell. Suddenly, dark clouds filled the sky, and the clouds shimmered with colorful lights, a manifestation of the gathering of magical elements of different attributes.
First, bolts of lightning struck from the clouds, precisely striking the magical beasts. This was the power of thunder magic. Then, a torrential downpour of rain, controlled by Carl's magic, transformed into countless sharp cones of ice, hurling them towards the magical beasts. This was a fusion of water and ice magic. Then, massive cracks appeared in the ground, from which thick vines emerged, tightly entangling the magical beasts' limbs. This was a combination of earth and wood magic. Finally, Carl cast a light spell, "Purifying Radiance." A dazzling white light enveloped the entire town. Under the radiance, the magical beasts' magic seemed to be suppressed, their attacks gradually weakening.
With the combined efforts of Carl and his family's magicians, the magical beasts were gradually driven back. The town's residents emerged from their hiding places, their eyes filled with gratitude for the magicians. Carl stood in the center of the town, his magic robe a little torn, but his gaze remained resolute.
After the battle, Carl remained vigilant. While examining the corpses of the magical beasts, he discovered something strange. A faint red line appeared in the eyes of these beasts. This line seemed to possess a mysterious power, sending a chill down Carl's spine. Memories of his past life suddenly surfaced: during his battle with his nemesis, Dracula, the dark creatures summoned by Dracula bore this same mark.
Carl was startled, realizing that this magical beast's attack on the town might not be accidental. He frowned, a sense of foreboding welling up within him. He decided to investigate further, knowing that if it truly was connected to Dracula or the dark forces behind him, it would be a catastrophe of immense magnitude, a grave threat not only to his family but also to the entire town and even the wider world.
At this time, Lillian ran over, her face full of worry: "Karl, are you okay? You were so brave just now!" Karl looked at her and smiled slightly: "I'm fine, Lillian. But something is wrong this time, we must be prepared." Lillian looked at Karl's serious expression and nodded: "Well, no matter what happens, I'm with you."
Other family members also gathered around, and they praised Carl's performance in the battle.
"Karl, you really made a great contribution this time!"
"Yes, if it weren't for you, we don't know how much it would cost to repel these beasts."
Carl only responded modestly, but his mind had already drifted to the conspiracy hidden behind the mysterious red thread. He knew that behind this seemingly peaceful magical world, a storm might be brewing quietly, and he must become a solid line of defense against the storm.
In the days that followed, Carl continued to refine his magical abilities while gathering information about the Red Line Marking and any connection to Dracula. He searched for clues in ancient family texts and questioned the elders about ancient legends, never missing a single detail that might reveal the truth. Each tome he read and each conversation he had with the elders brought him closer to the secrets lurking in the darkness. It also made him more aware of the weight of his responsibility: he must prepare for the challenges that lay ahead for his family, his town, and the entire magical world.
