Traps in the Ruins

When they stepped into the dark embrace of the ruins, it was like walking into a huge maze of death. The traps were like the devil's eyes hidden in the dark, watching their every move and ready to launch a fatal attack at any time.

As soon as he entered, a faint mechanical sound emanated from the surrounding walls. It sounded like the grinding of the teeth of an ancient beast, a terrifying sound. Carl's face changed, and his pupils contracted sharply. He raised his head abruptly, his eyes darting around like lightning, and shouted, "Be careful, there's a trap!" At the same time, he spread his feet slightly, took a firm horse stance, and instantly clenched his wand in front of him.

"Oh my god, that sound gives me goosebumps!" Tom shouted in a trembling voice. He quickly approached Carl, his back almost touching Carl's, his eyes fixed on the wall nervously. Jerry, who was standing next to him, was no exception. He grabbed Carl's arm, his fingers turning white from the force. "Carl, you have to protect us!"

Before he could finish his words, countless tiny holes suddenly appeared in the wall, and then, magical arrows rained down upon them. These arrows shimmered with a dazzling array of colors, seemingly beautiful but harboring deadly danger. Magical energy of varying properties swirled around them. Some burned with flames, orange-red in color, leaping and swirling as if to devour everything; others carried the chill of frost, ice crystals condensing on the arrows, emitting a biting chill; and still others, swirling with the power of lightning, arcs of blue electricity flickered around them, emitting a sizzling sound.

"Oh my god! Is this a welcome 'fireworks display'?" Tom cried out in horror, his eyes wide and a vein popping out on his forehead. He instinctively recoiled, then swiftly brandished his wand. His arms swung rapidly, like he was wielding a frantic sword, and he rapidly chanted a defensive spell. Each syllable was forced through his clenched teeth. As he chanted the spell, a powerful surge of magic flowed from the tip of his wand, forming a translucent shield that spun rapidly in front of him, attempting to block the locust-like magical arrows.

Carl, however, appeared remarkably calm. He took a deep breath, his chest slightly puffing out, and then exhaled sharply. He waved his wand, muttering something to himself, his movements flowing like flowing water. A transparent shield instantly unfolded before them, a giant glass dome, its surface shimmering softly as magic flowed through it, forming intricate patterns. Magical arrows slammed into the shield like moths to a flame, emitting a series of crackling sounds and splashing dazzling light. Each arrow's impact triggered a ripple of magical energy, causing the shield to tremble slightly, yet remained as solid as ever.

"Don't panic, everyone. Follow me!" Carl shouted loudly. His eyes were fixed firmly on the front, and his feet moved forward steadily. Every step was determined. The wand in his hand was always pointed at the shield to maintain its stability.

"Carl, your shield is amazing! I knew I was right to follow you," Tom shouted from behind, his voice filled with relief at having survived, but he still held his wand tightly, not daring to let his guard down. Jerry echoed, "Yeah, Carl, we feel much more at ease with you around. If it were me alone, I'd probably be shot into a hedgehog in the first round."

After finally dodging the hail of magical arrows, they barely managed to breathe a sigh of relief when the ground beneath them suddenly began to shake violently. "What's going on? Can't we just get some peace and quiet here?" Jerry complained, his legs trembling slightly like leaves in the wind. His face turned pale, his lips trembling uncontrollably, and his eyes frantically scanned the ground.

"Hey, Jerry, stop shaking. It makes me more nervous!" Tom shouted at Jerry. Although he was complaining, his eyes were filled with fear of the unknown.

Suddenly, sharp spikes sprouted from the ground, gleaming with an eerie black light, clearly imbued with an evil spell. The spikes grew at an incredible speed, covering a vast area in the blink of an eye. As they broke through the earth, they sent clouds of dust soaring, like the fangs of a ferocious monster, reaching toward the sky.

"Jump! Jump to a place free of spikes!" Teacher Irving shouted. His voice, like a resounding bell, was clearly audible amid the chaos. He took the lead, his legs slamming into action, and he leaped high into the air. His figure, as lithe as a swallow, traced a graceful arc through the air, landing steadily on a patch of ground free of spikes. His wand traced a graceful arc through the air, casting a golden light, guiding the students.

Everyone cast lightness spells, leaping and weaving through the thorns like nimble rabbits. Lucy's left foot was nearly scratched by a spike. It scraped past the edge of her shoe, sending up a gust of cold air. She screamed, her eyes filled with fear, and lost her balance, falling forward.

"Lucy!" The classmate next to her exclaimed. The classmate closest to her rushed over, grabbed Lucy's arm tightly before she fell to the ground, and pulled her back with force.

"Are you okay? We were so scared!" the classmate asked with concern, his eyes full of worry.

"I... I'm fine, thank you." Lucy was breathing heavily, sweat beads on her forehead, and fear still remained in her eyes.

"Lucy, don't let us down right now! We're counting on you to find the treasure!" Tom joked. Although he had a smile on his face, it was a bit stiff, and there was a hint of nervousness in his eyes. As he spoke, he jumped between the spikes. His movements were a bit awkward, and he stumbled every time he landed, but he still managed to keep his balance.

"Hmph, you're the only one who can talk. If you have the guts, don't shout." Lucy rolled her eyes at him, a look of shock still on her face. She bit her lip, regained her composure, and continued dodging the spikes with everyone else.

Just when they thought they were safe, a magical mist gradually filled the air. It was a dreamy purple, slowly drifting, as if alive. Like gentle tentacles, the mist slowly reached out toward them. As soon as it touched, Jerry's eyes blurred, and he muttered, "Wow, so many delicious foods! I want to eat them all!" As he spoke, he walked deeper into the mist. His steps were unsteady, as if he were drunk. His eyes were filled with longing, and a faint smile played on his lips.

"Oh no! This fog can cause hallucinations. Everyone, cover your mouths and noses! Don't breathe it in!" Carl shouted hurriedly. He quickly pulled some purifying herbs from his backpack and, with a swift wave of his arm, tossed them into the air. He chanted an incantation, and a beam of green light from the tip of his wand illuminated the herbs. The herbs instantly emitted a rich, refreshing fragrance, like clear spring water, spreading through the air, forming an invisible force that attempted to dispel the fog.

"Jerry, wake up!" Tom shouted at Jerry while casting his magic. He quickly ran to Jerry, reached out and grabbed Jerry's shoulders, and shook him vigorously a few times. "You guy, all you think about is eating. It's already late!" Tom said anxiously, his eyes full of anxiety.

The other teachers also took action. Teacher Brown waved her wand, chanting an ancient purification spell. A powerful white light surged from the tip of her wand, intertwining with Carl's power to resist the encroaching fog. Teacher Claire cast wind magic, and a breeze blew from her wand. The breeze was like a gentle palm, promoting the power of purification and accelerating the dispersal of the fog.

Jerry finally came to his senses. He blinked, his eyes full of confusion.

"Ah? What happened to me just now? I seemed to see a lot of delicious food." Jerry looked confused, touched his head, and a hint of embarrassment appeared on his face.

"You only cared about eating and almost lost your life." Tom said unhappily. He let go of Jerry's shoulders and patted him on the back.

Under Carl's guidance, they narrowly avoided trap after trap. Just when everyone relaxed their vigilance, Carl suddenly discovered some strange markings carved into the corners of the wall. These markings looked quite old, and faint magical fluctuations still lingered in the incisions. Carl stopped, leaned forward slightly, and narrowed his eyes to examine the markings carefully.

"Look, there are marks here, as if someone left them there on purpose." Carl pointed at the wall and said, his voice low and serious.

Everyone gathered around, and Tom was the first to squeeze to the front. "Wow, really! This looks like an arrow. Could it be that someone is showing us the way?" He said excitedly, and traced the marked line with his finger.

"Could this be the guidance left by someone who has been here before? Maybe by following these marks we can find the core of the ruins." Lucy's eyes flashed with excitement, her hands clenched unconsciously, her body trembled slightly, and she was full of anticipation.

"I don't think it's that simple. These ruins are full of dangers, and the appearance of these marks is too strange. Maybe it's a trap." Carl frowned, a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes. He stood up straight, crossed his arms, and fell into deep thought.

"Maybe it was left by a kind-hearted magician? We have been so unlucky, maybe it's time for our luck to change." Tom said optimistically, grinning, revealing his white teeth, his eyes full of hope.

"Hmph, you always think things are too good to be true. It's better to be careful in a place like this." Teacher Brown said seriously. He frowned and shook his head slightly, his eyes full of vigilance.

"Anyway, let's walk along the marks for a while and see how it goes. But everyone should stay alert and be ready to deal with emergencies at any time." Carl said, his eyes revealing caution. He gripped the wand in his hand tightly again and took a step forward, his steps light and cautious, every step seemed to be testing unknown dangers.

"Okay, everyone be careful!" Tom responded. He followed closely behind Carl, his eyes constantly observing the surroundings and looking back at the other students from time to time. "Keep up, don't fall behind."

They advanced slowly, following the markings, taking extreme caution along the way. With every step, Carl carefully observed his surroundings, his eyes as sharp as an eagle's, not missing a single suspicious sign. His head swiveled constantly, examining the walls, the floor, and the ceiling, his wand ready to cast a spell. The corridor was eerily quiet, with only the sound of their footsteps echoing in the empty space. Those footsteps seemed to strike at everyone's heart, heightening the tension.

"Carl, do you think these marks are reliable? I feel a little uneasy." Tom whispered to Carl. He moved closer to Carl and looked at the marks from time to time.

"I'm not sure either, but we have no other clues now, so we can only go this way." Carl replied in a low voice, his brow still furrowed.

As they advanced deeper, Carl's suspicions grew. He felt as if these markings were luring them into a larger trap, but he had no other clues. His brow furrowed ever deeper, forming a deep "chuan" (cross) shape, and his eyes grew more alert.

"Everyone, pay attention. I feel something is wrong. These marks may really be problematic. We must be prepared for traps." Carl warned in a low voice. His voice was very low, as if he was afraid of being heard by something.

"Carl, are you too nervous? Maybe it's nothing." Tom said, but his voice was a little weak, and he was obviously unsure. His eyes were a little wandering, constantly looking around, and the wand in his hand was shaking slightly.

Suddenly, a tremendous roar erupted from the front, as if something heavy was moving. Then, they saw a massive stone gate appear before them. It slowly opened, and a powerful magical force surged out, carrying an unsettling aura. The magical force surged like a black tide, sending shivers down their spines.

"Look, maybe this is the core of the ruins!" Lucy shouted excitedly, her eyes shining, and she took a few quick steps forward to see more clearly.

"Don't get too excited, this could be a trap. Everyone, stay away. Let me observe." Carl stopped the eager crowd, extending his arm across his body to block Lucy. He approached the stone door cautiously, each step slow and light, as if afraid to awaken a sleeping demon. He could sense danger lurking behind the stone door, waiting for them to enter.

"Carl, be careful!" The classmates shouted from behind. Everyone stared at Carl's back nervously, holding their wands tightly in their hands, ready to provide support at any time.

This journey through the traps in the ruins is like a thrilling chess game, with every step full of unknowns and dangers. Can Carl and his companions see through the fog and find the real way out? Everything is still unknown.
