The Rebirth of the God of Law: The Lord of the God Realm
Chapter 39: Journey to the Ruins (2)
Journey to the Ruins (Part 2)
After a long and arduous journey, Carl and his companions finally emerged from the outskirts of the mysterious ruins. It was an area shrouded in mystery, a corner forgotten by time. Ancient magic hung in the air like a mist. The buildings of the ruins loomed in this fog, like giant beasts slumbering for millennia, emitting an aura both alluring and dangerous.
Tom's eyes widened like bells, and a childlike excited smile bloomed on his dusty face. That smile was like the sun breaking through the dark clouds. "Wow, we're finally here! It looks so mysterious here, just like the legendary magical world." He shouted excitedly, with a curious light flashing in his eyes, and that light was like the brightest star in the night sky, dazzling and scorching.
Carl's brow furrowed slightly, like two sharp sword marks carved into his handsome yet slightly tired face. He surveyed his surroundings warily, his lips slightly pursed. The wand in his hand glowed faintly, a light that seemed to respond to the surrounding magic, yet also a silent protest against the unknown danger. His eyes were deep and sharp, as if to penetrate the fog and discern every hidden threat.
The group approached the ruins cautiously, taking every step with extreme caution, as if the ground beneath their feet might open its mouth and swallow them at any moment. A gentle breeze blew, bringing with it a hint of ancient, stale air, the traces of time left on the ruins. Jerry's nose twitched slightly, like a sensitive hound sniffing out danger, his eyes fixed on the ground, not missing a single unusual sign.
"Hey, look! There's something on the ground." Jerry suddenly shouted, squatting down, his eyes wide open, pointing at some faintly glowing symbols on the ground. His eyes were full of surprise, like an explorer who had discovered a precious treasure, and his cheeks were slightly flushed with excitement.
Everyone gathered around, and Carl squatted down. His brows were furrowed like two intertwined locks, and deep wrinkles appeared on his forehead. He reached out, his slender fingers gently touching the runes. His eyes were as focused as a hawk watching its prey, and he muttered something, trying to decipher its meaning. His lips moved rapidly, each syllable like a key to a secret door. His expression was so serious that no one dared to disturb him.
"Well, Carl, can you understand these strange symbols?" Lucy leaned over, blinking her big eyes at Carl. Her eyes seemed to hold a spring of clear water, bright and clear, and her long eyelashes fluttered, revealing a hint of innocence and curiosity.
"Well, these runes are a warning." Carl slowly stood up, his expression darkening like the gloomy sky before a storm. A hint of worry crossed his eyes, and his lips tightened. "It seems to say that once we enter the ruins, something terrible will happen, more terrifying than all the dangers we've encountered before combined."
"More terrifying than sandworms and tree spirits? What could that be? A ghost that eats people? Or a magic spell that turns people to stone?" Tom gestured exaggeratedly, his eyes wide and his mouth open wide enough to fit an egg. His face was a mixture of fear and excitement, a thrill that would occasionally peek out like a tail beneath his fear, and he would lean back slightly, as if he had already sensed the imagined danger.
"Stop guessing, Tom. Whatever it is, we have no way out. We must keep moving forward and stop Victor. This is our mission." Teacher Ivan patted Tom's shoulder, his gaze as firm as a rock, his deep eyes revealing an unquestionable determination. The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, a smile of encouragement, but there was also a hint of solemnity in that smile. After all, he was well aware of the dangers of this journey.
"That's right. No matter how great the danger, we can't retreat. But if there really is a man-eating ghost, I'll throw you out as bait!" Jerry said jokingly. A wicked smile appeared on his face, his mouth stretched to his ears, his eyes narrowed into slits, and he winked at Tom like a cat that had stolen some meat.
"Hey! You're such a jerk! If there were a ghost, it would definitely go after you, a big mouth." Tom retorted in mock anger. He frowned and pretended to be angry, his cheeks puffed out like an angry pufferfish, but there was no anger in his eyes; instead, a hint of smile glimmered.
Amidst a burst of lighthearted laughter, the tense atmosphere eased a little, but everyone knew that a real test of life and death was waiting for them ahead.
They continued toward the ruins. The closer they got, the stronger the magical fluctuations grew. The oppressive feeling weighed on everyone like a heavy, dark cloud. The air around them seemed thick, and every breath required effort. Beads of sweat formed on Carl's forehead, sliding down his cheeks, though he remained oblivious. His gaze grew more determined, and the knuckles of his hand, gripping his wand tightly, turned white from the strain, like a guardian guarding a last glimmer of hope.
"Everyone, stay alert. We never know when danger will strike," Carl whispered. He walked at the front of the group, his voice deep and steady, like an ancient bell, each word resonating deeply with everyone. His figure seemed a little frail amid the powerful magical fluctuations, yet he held an unwavering resolve, like a beacon in the darkness, guiding everyone forward.
When they arrived at the ruins' main gate, everyone was stunned by the sight. The gate towered into the sky, constructed from massive stones, intricately carved with intricate and exquisite magical runes and mysterious patterns. These runes and patterns intertwined, emitting a powerful magical glow, like an impenetrable line of defense.
Lucy's mouth parted in a lovely "O" shape, her head tilted back, eyes filled with wonder. Her fair face, shimmering in the light, looked even more translucent, like enchanted porcelain. "This door is magnificent! It feels like a portal to another world," she exclaimed, her eyes twinkling like the stars reflected in the lake.
"Yes, but we have to find a way to open it, and be careful of the traps inside," Carl said, his eyes wandering between the runes and patterns on the door, like an experienced hunter examining the traces of his prey. His brows sometimes furrowed, sometimes relaxed, as if he was having a silent conversation with these ancient symbols.
The other teachers and students also sprang into action, some searching the surroundings for clues, others helping Carl decipher the runes. Mr. Brown spotted a distinctive stone slab on the side of the gate, its runes shimmering in different colors. His eyes lit up instantly, like a miner discovering a gem in the darkness, their eyes gleaming with surprise and anticipation. "Carl, come and look at this! This slab seems special," Mr. Brown called out, his voice trembling with excitement.
Carl walked over and carefully examined the runes on the stone slab. His eyes scanned the runes like a scanner, his expression serious and focused. His hand gently stroked the stone slab, feeling the magical fluctuations of the runes, his fingers trembling slightly, as if he were touching the pulse of history. "I think this may be the key to opening the door. But we must be careful. If handled improperly, it could be dangerous." Carl said, his forehead covered with sweat. The sweat gathered on his brows and then rolled down one by one, wetting his eyelashes. He was nervous, not because of the heat, but because of nervousness. Every decision could mean life or death for everyone.
Everyone began trying various methods to activate the runes on the stone. They chanted different magical incantations, trying to find the right combination. Tom's expression alternated between nervousness and confusion, his brow furrowed like a tangled knot. He rapidly chanted the incantation, his eyes fixed on the runes, like a student taking an exam with no clear solution. Some of the incantations triggered small magical fluctuations, but the door remained motionless.
"Oh, this is harder than any of my magic puzzles. If I had known this would happen, I should have brought a few more magic puzzle books." Tom complained. He scratched his head, which was ruffled like a bird's nest. His face showed an annoyed expression, his lips slightly pursed, and he looked dejected.
"All you do is complain, Tom. Now's not the time to talk about this." Lucy rolled her eyes at him, with a hint of reproach in her eyes. Her brows wrinkled slightly, and her small nose also wrinkled, looking cute and playful.
Just as everyone was feeling discouraged, Carl suddenly remembered an ancient magical arrangement mentioned in ancient texts. His eyes suddenly lit up, like a flash of lightning in the darkness, illuminating his hopeful face. He rearranged the runes on the slate according to the pattern and then recited an ancient and obscure magical spell. His voice was deep and powerful, each syllable a cry from the depths of his soul, filled with mysterious power.
As the spell was chanted, the runes on the stone slab began to glow brightly, extending along a specific path to the runes on the gate. The gate began to tremble violently, rumbling like a sleeping beast awakened. The sound was so deafening that everyone unconsciously covered their ears.
"Success!" The students cheered. Jerry jumped up excitedly, his face filled with a joyful smile, that smile was as bright as a blooming flower. He waved his wand in his hand, as if celebrating a great victory.
But Carl's expression remained serious. He knew that opening this door was only the first step; the real challenge lay beyond. The door slowly swung open, and a powerful magical force washed over them, carrying with it an air of antiquity and mystery. Within lay darkness, a seemingly endless abyss, waiting to be explored. Carl took a deep breath, his chest heaving violently, as if gathering strength for the coming challenge. His eyes were filled with determination, like a warrior about to rush into battle, fearless.
"Are you ready? We're going in." Carl took a deep breath and looked at his companions behind him. His gaze was firm and warm, like the warm sun in winter, bringing a little courage to everyone.
"We're ready!" Everyone answered in unison, their voices tinged with nervousness but also filled with determination. The sound echoed through the empty ruins, like a declaration of war against an unknown challenge.
As they entered the ruins, darkness enveloped them. Carl cast an illumination spell, and the light from his wand illuminated a small area around them. They found themselves in a vast hall, its walls covered in ancient murals. The figures and scenes depicted were vivid, yet an eerie atmosphere permeated the room.
Lucy's eyes were fixed on the mural, filled with curiosity and awe. Her lips parted slightly, as if she were about to speak, but she was overwhelmed by the mysterious atmosphere and remained silent. Her eyes revealed a complex emotion, as if she were admiring a great work of art, but also as if she were peeking into a dark secret.
"These murals... seem to tell a story," Lucy whispered, her voice drifting through the silent hall like a gentle breeze. Her gaze was drawn to the murals, a flicker of curiosity in her eyes, like a child discovering a book filled with fantastical stories and wanting to explore them.
"Let's forget about these murals for now. We need to keep moving forward, find whatever Victor might be looking for, and then get out of here," Carl said, his gaze fixed on the darkness ahead. His eyes were deep and calm, like a bottomless lake. His face showed no trace of fear, only unwavering determination, a resolve that blazed brightly in the darkness like a burning flame. He leaned forward slightly, like a cheetah poised for the hunt, ready to respond to any danger.
They slowly advanced along the hallway, feeling the mysterious magical fluctuations beneath their feet with every step. Suddenly, a chilling wind blew in from the depths of the hallway, carrying a faint whisper that sent a chill down their spines. Jerry's body shuddered, his face turning as pale as a sheet of paper. His eyes were filled with fear, his lips trembling, and his teeth chattering. "Did you hear that? What was that sound?" Jerry asked tremblingly, clutching his backpack tightly, his body shivering slightly like a leaf shivering in the cold wind.
"Don't scare yourself. It's probably just the sound of the wind blowing through the passage," Carl consoled him, but he was also on high alert. His brow furrowed slightly, a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes, and he gripped his wand tighter, ready to cast magic to deal with any emergency.
However, they don't know that the real danger is quietly watching them in the darkness, ready to attack at any time. Their journey to the ruins has just begun, and what awaits them is a thrilling adventure.
