Admission Test

The morning sunlight, like golden threads, filtered through the cracks of the ancient buildings of the Magic Academy, illuminating the nervous yet expectant faces of the new students. Today was the day of the entrance exams, a crucial moment for each new student entering this magical temple, showcasing themselves and embarking on a new chapter in their magical journey.

Carl and his companions arrived early at the testing grounds. The venue was a vast circular hall, its walls inlaid with softly glowing magic crystals, illuminating the entire space as bright as day. In the center of the hall stood a variety of oddly shaped testing instruments, like sleeping giants, quietly awaiting awakening. A number of freshmen had already gathered around, some conversing in low voices, others preparing silently on their own. The air was thick with tension.

"Everyone, don't be nervous. Just treat this test as a normal practice." Carl tried to ease his companions' nervousness, but he himself felt a little uneasy. After all, the results of this test would determine their starting point in the academy.

"Karl, it's easy for you to say that, but this test is not easy." Ellie bit her lip, her long fiery red hair tied into a ponytail, and a hint of uneasiness revealed in her eyes.

"That's right. I heard that this test will be very strict. If I don't perform well, I might be assigned to a very bad class." Leo also frowned, and the wind element surged slightly around him, as if echoing his emotions.

Tom smiled innocently and said, "No matter what, we'll just do our best."

The test began quickly, beginning with an affinity test for magical elements. The freshmen lined up in a long line, each one approaching a giant crystal ball. The crystal ball was completely transparent, with a multicolored light flowing slowly within it, like a miniature magical world.

When a new student places their hand over the crystal ball, it glows with varying colors and intensities based on their affinity for the magical elements. If they have a strong affinity for a particular element, the corresponding color of light will shine brightly; if they have a certain affinity for multiple elements, the light will intertwine and shimmer, creating a magnificent spectacle.

Soon it was Carl's turn. He took a deep breath and slowly placed his hand on the crystal ball. Instantly, the crystal ball erupted with an intense light. Seven colors—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet—intertwined, like a rainbow blooming within the crystal ball. The light was so dazzling that it illuminated the entire hall in a riot of color. The surrounding freshmen gasped in amazement, and the teachers cast their gazes in awe.

"Wow, Carl, you have such a high affinity for all elements!" Ellie exclaimed excitedly.

Carl smiled faintly, knowing this was just the beginning. His unique understanding of the magical elements allowed him to establish a deep connection with each element the moment he touched the crystal ball. This affinity wasn't simply a gift; it was the result of his endless study of magic in past and present lives.

Next up was a test of magic power. The test instrument was a giant magic reactor, into which freshmen injected their magic power. The instrument would then display corresponding values and fluctuations based on the strength of the magic power.

The freshmen ahead took their tests one by one, their readings fluctuating, sometimes high and sometimes low, but all within normal limits. When it was Carl's turn, he concentrated, slowly injecting his magic power into the reactor. At first, everything seemed normal, but as the magic power continued to flow, the instrument began to exhibit unusual fluctuations. The air around the reactor trembled violently, as if ignited. Magical light flickered on the surface of the instrument, and the readings soared wildly, far exceeding the results of all the freshmen's tests before him.

"This...what's going on?" A teacher in charge of the test stood up in surprise. He had never seen such a thing before.

"This fluctuation..." Carl was startled. He felt a resemblance to the magical fluctuations he had encountered in his previous life while exploring the World Barrier. Back then, seeking the source of magic, he had overcome numerous obstacles to reach the World Barrier. The magical fluctuations there were powerful and mysterious, as if they contained the secrets of the universe. And now, on this entrance examination instrument, he felt that familiar, yet terrifying power again.

"Carl, are you okay?" another teacher asked with concern. He was worried that Carl would be harmed by the magic.

"I'm fine." Carl took a deep breath and tried to control his magic output. He didn't want his unique condition to affect the test, nor did he want to cause unnecessary panic. With his efforts, the instrument's fluctuations gradually stabilized, but the value displayed was already alarmingly high.

The teachers looked at Carl with eyes full of shock and curiosity. They had taught at the academy for many years and had seen countless gifted students, but this was the first time they had encountered a situation like Carl.

"How did you do it? This level of magic power... is simply incredible." A teacher couldn't help but ask.

"I'm not sure either. I just released my magic the way I usually do." Carl replied. He didn't want to reveal too many of his secrets.

The final test was on the mastery of magical skills. The freshmen were taken to a special training ground, where various simulated scenarios and magical obstacles were set up, and they had to use their magical skills to deal with them.

Carl stood at the entrance to the training grounds. He took in the scene before him, a surge of fighting spirit rising within him. He knew this was his last chance to demonstrate his magical prowess. He gripped his wand tightly and stepped into the training grounds.

The first thing that appeared in the training ground was a group of phantom beasts made of magical energy. They had different shapes, some like ferocious lions, and some like giant pythons, pouncing towards Carl with their fangs and claws bared.

"Hmph! Trying to stop me? That won't be easy!" Carl muttered as he cast the "Elemental Wall" spell. With a wave of his wand and a muttered incantation, the surrounding magical elements rapidly gathered, forming a multi-elemental wall. The wall shimmered with a shimmering light of various colors. Wind elements roared across its surface, fire elements burned within, water elements formed a shield, earth elements added strength, light elements illuminated the surroundings, and lightning elements flickered at the edges, creating a formidable defense.

The phantom beasts crashed into the elemental wall and were bounced back by the powerful force, turning into points of light and dissipating in the air.

"That's not enough!" Carl said confidently.

Then, the scene changed, and before Carl appeared a swamp full of traps. Bubbles kept coming out of the swamp, and each bubble would release a negative magical effect when it burst, such as slowness, blindness, or weakness.

"Looks like I need to be careful," Carl said, casting the "Wind Dance" magic. His body became as light as a swallow, dancing gracefully in the wind. He skillfully used the wind element to lightly shuttle over the swamp, avoiding one trap after another.

"Haha, if you want to trap me, you still need to learn more." Carl shouted while flying.

Just when Carl thought he had successfully avoided the swamp, a giant magical octopus suddenly stretched out its tentacles from the depths of the swamp and rolled towards him. The octopus's tentacles were covered with suction cups, each of which exuded black magic power. If touched, it would be possible to drain the magic power.

"Damn it! They even have that trick!" Carl frowned as he cast the "Chain of Thunder and Fire" spell. Chains of lightning and fire shot out from his wand, wrapping around the octopus's tentacles like snakes.

"Try this and see how arrogant you can be!" Carl shouted.

The power of lightning paralyzed the octopus's tentacles, and flames burned on them. The octopus struggled in pain, trying to retreat into the swamp. Carl took the opportunity to increase his magic output, and the chain of lightning and fire became even more powerful, eventually severing the octopus's tentacles. The octopus roared and sank into the depths of the swamp.

"You're still a long way off if you want to defeat me!" Carl shouted in the direction where the octopus disappeared.

Carl continued forward, knowing that even greater challenges lay ahead. Sure enough, a powerful magic shield appeared ahead, radiating a rainbow of light, completely blocking the path to the finish line. Four magic circles constantly rotated around the shield, each providing energy.

"This shield is a bit tricky." Carl muttered softly.

He carefully examined the shield and magic circle, noting that each circle corresponded to a specific magical element. With a sudden impulse, he decided to try a new combination of magic. He divided his magic power into four streams, each corresponding to one of the four magical elements, and then cast the "Elemental Resonance Break" spell. He chanted a complex incantation, waving his wand in elaborate patterns.

"Look how I break your defense!" Carl shouted.

As he moved, the four magical elements formed four huge magic vortexes around him, which resonated with the magic circle around the shield.

Amidst a burst of intense light and a roaring sound, cracks began to appear in the shield. Carl, seizing the perfect moment, concentrated all his magical energy and unleashed a final blow at the crack. With a resounding boom, the shield was completely shattered, and Carl successfully passed the magic skill test.

As Carl walked out of the training grounds, he was met with the expectant eyes of his companions and the admiring gazes of his teachers. He knew he had performed exceptionally well on the entrance exam, but he also understood that this was only the beginning of his journey at the Magic Academy. The mysteries surrounding him, along with the magical fluctuations linked to his past life that surfaced during the entrance exam, made him realize that his path at the Magic Academy would not be smooth sailing.

"Carl, you're awesome! You're the best freshman we've ever seen." Ellie ran over excitedly and gave Carl a big hug.

"Yes, Carl, you will definitely be assigned to the best class this time." Leo also said with a smile.

Tom nodded vigorously: "Karl, you are awesome!"

Carl looked at his companions, his heart filled with warmth. "Thank you, everyone has done a great job. We all need to continue to work hard and become stronger in this academy."

The teachers were discussing the test results and they praised Carl's performance highly.

"This Carl is truly a rare magical genius. His magical power and understanding of magical elements far exceed his peers. We must train him well." said a teacher.

"That's right, but we also need to further study the abnormal fluctuations that occurred during his magic test. This may be a phenomenon we have never seen before." Another teacher nodded in agreement.

While waiting for the results of his class placement, Carl and his friends rested in the academy's garden. A variety of exotic magical flowers bloomed in the garden, exuding an enchanting fragrance, some even shimmering with star-like light. Butterflies fluttered among the blossoms, their wings adorned with intricate magical patterns, casting dots of fluorescent light with every flap.

"Carl, what are you thinking about?" Ellie sat next to Carl and asked as she saw him looking thoughtful.

"I'm thinking about some strange things that happened during this test, especially the fluctuations during the magic test. I always feel that there is some secret behind it." Carl said with a frown.

"Are you talking about things related to your past life?" Leo asked.

"Well, that kind of fluctuation gives me a familiar feeling. I think it may be related to my experience in my previous life. Maybe, in this academy, I can find some answers." There was a firm light in Carl's eyes.

"No matter what, we will face it with you." Tom patted Carl's shoulder.

Just then, a teacher came over and said, "Karl, your class placement results are out. Come with me."

Carl stood up, looked at his friends, and then followed his teacher out of the garden. He knew new challenges awaited him, and he was ready. With his faith and the support of his friends, he would continue his explorations at the magic academy, unraveling the mysteries surrounding him and pursuing the true meaning of magic.

On his way to the announcement of the class placement results, Carl encountered envious and sometimes jealous glances from other freshmen. He paid no attention, his mind completely focused on the upcoming results. He knew that no matter which class he was assigned to, he would continue to strive to improve himself, because he shouldered so many missions, and the mysteries of his family and past lives awaited his unraveling.

When he arrived at the hall where the results were announced, many new students and teachers were already gathered. At the front of the hall stood a large magical slate, displaying each new student's name and class assignment. Carl searched the slate and quickly found his own. He had been assigned to the academy's most elite class—the Elite Class. This class, home to the most talented and promising students, was the dream of countless new students.

"Carl, congratulations!" The teachers and some familiar classmates around him congratulated him.

Carl looked at his name and class information, feeling both excitement and immense pressure. He knew the competition in the elite class would be fiercer, and every student was to be reckoned with. But he had no intention of backing down, for he was Carl, a wizard who would never give up in his pursuit of the true magic.

"Thank you everyone, I will continue to work hard." Carl responded with a smile.

From this moment on, Carl officially started his study career in the elite class of the Magic Academy.
