Gold Medal Sweetheart
Chapter 4 New Mission
Chapter 4 New Mission
A week passed before Tang Xin realized how naive her thinking had been. It turned out that the conversation with the principal wasn't the end of the matter. Anqi had been transferred to the junior high school department. Even worse than Anqi's, her classes were being taught by a new intern. It was said that interns' salaries were significantly lower than Tang Xin's, so this move, which would save the school money, wouldn't be a short-term one. She, on the other hand, was assigned to the General Affairs Office, where her work was supposedly more needed and where she could shine. She had moved out of her old office, and her daily responsibilities included overseeing student meals, managing school hygiene and the cafeteria, and repairing damaged items. While there's no such thing as high or low labor, being separated from the teaching she loved had significantly diminished her enthusiasm for the job. More importantly, her already meager salary was even more pitifully reduced by the transfer.
That morning, Tang Xin was moving the school's newly purchased books to the library when she heard the rhythmic sound of high heels hitting the ground behind her. Turning around, she saw Jiao Zhengkai walking towards her from the school gate with a graceful figure and an imposing pride on her face. "Hey, how's your new job?" Jiaojiao asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Didn't you see it?" Tang Xin'ai said indifferently.
A smug smile played on Jiaojiao's lips. "Actually, I quite miss the days when we worked on the same floor together. It feels so much quieter without you. How about I talk to the principal and ask him to transfer you back?"
"Thanks! It's not necessary!" Tang Xin said unhappily.
"That's right. After all, this kind of brainless work is more suitable for you. Otherwise, no one with a normal brain would have said such things to me last time. This is--" Jiaojiao deliberately prolonged her voice.
Tang Xin was already furious when she heard this. When she heard Jiaojiao suddenly interrupt, she put down the work in her hands, turned around and looked at Jiaojiao.
Seeing Tang Xin turning around, Jiaojiao continued in a serious tone, "Price!" Then she glanced at Tang Xin viciously and walked away arrogantly in her high heels. The clicking sound of her shoes seemed to support the woman's momentum, and was very loud.
Looking at the receding figure, Tang Xin glanced at him hatefully.
At this time, a familiar voice sounded beside him: "Hey, it seems you are not as good as me." An Qi walked towards him.
"I've been doing odd jobs and my classes have been taken away from me. How can things be any better?" Tang Xin said helplessly.
"I knew she wouldn't let it go, but I didn't expect her to be so ruthless." An Qi also echoed.
"You expected the beginning, but didn't expect this ending, haha."
"You can still laugh?"
"What else can I do? Actually, I submitted my resignation letter to the principal the day after that incident. But..."
"You resigned, but I never heard you tell me. Why did you do it behind my back?" An Qi said a little unhappily.
"If one person's resignation is enough to end the matter, why bother with a buy-one-get-one-free deal? And judging from the current situation, who do you think Jiaojiao can't tolerate the most?" Tang Xin explained.
"Then why are you still working like a slave here?" An Qi asked in confusion.
"My little heart is not strong enough. I couldn't stand the principal's sweet talk and fell into my own vanity. Then there is the issue of livelihood. If I had the conditions to sacrifice my life but not my wealth, I would definitely do it without hesitation." Tang Xin said frivolously.
"It seems that you are fine. I think you have a strong heart." An Qi said jokingly.
Tang Xin walked up to An Qi and confessed with great ambition, "Actually, one of the reasons I'm hesitant is my mom. I've made up my mind. I'll endure these few months until my contract is up. If my mom doesn't interfere, I'll leave. This will give me some time to relax, test my mom's opinion, and look for a suitable job. Isn't that the best of both worlds?"
"I'm glad you think so. By the way, I came here to talk to you about something."
"What is it?"
"The director of general affairs saw me coming over, and told me to tell you to go over there right now. I don't know what it is specifically about."
Tang Xin was quite used to it. Ever since she stopped teaching, she'd been approached for all sorts of school matters, big and small, both related to her and not. She concluded that she was just a teacher in name only, but a nanny.
But Tang Xin didn't dare to delay. She said a few words to An Qi quickly and ran to the General Affairs Office.
Pushing open the door of the General Affairs Office, the Director of General Affairs eagerly pulled Tang Xin over and said, "You're finally back. We have the most important task waiting for you since you took office. If you do it well, the principal might let you go back to teaching if he's pleased."
Tang Xin looked at the General Affairs Director with a puzzled look, "What mission?"
"Mr. Zhang is going to BJ to discuss business and will stay here for a day tomorrow. The principal asked us to book a banquet at Shangyue Mansion in a luxurious private room."
Mr. Zhang is the boss behind the school where Tang Xin works. He used to live in this city, but a few years ago, his family relocated south as his core business expanded. The school here isn't very profitable, having been operating for so long that it's become a worthless operation, a waste of money. Therefore, Mr. Zhang rarely visits to inspect the business. Principal Wang, on the other hand, has been planning to build a new, modern teaching building to expand student enrollment and increase revenue. Such a large-scale construction project would cost a fortune. Since learning two weeks ago that Mr. Zhang would be visiting during a business trip to Beijing, Principal Wang has been working tirelessly to secure Mr. Zhang's permission and funding.
After listening to this, Tang Xin said with a hint of enlightenment, "Then I'll go make the reservation call now."
The general manager smiled with satisfaction. "Okay, but you need to go to the hotel a little early tomorrow afternoon to see if everything is arranged properly and to avoid any mistakes."
"I understand, don't worry."
After a busy day, Tang Xin completed the tasks assigned by the director and returned home exhausted. While her mother was preparing dinner, she took the opportunity to go back to her room and browse the internet. She casually browsed the recruitment websites and looked at the school's job postings. Sure enough, her minor subject, which rarely hired, had almost no job postings. However, there were a few companies hiring for clerk positions, which looked promising.
At dinnertime, the news was reporting that this year's civil service exam was once again incredibly crowded, with hundreds of people vying for a single position. Tang Xin tentatively said, "Mom, it's so hard to get into the civil service these days. It's actually not as promising as a white-collar career."
As Tang's mother picked up some food for Tang Xin, she said, "Yeah, being a white-collar worker isn't bad either."
After hearing this, Tang Xin's eyes sparkled. She placed her chopsticks to her mouth, but her eating movements slowed down noticeably. "Mom, how about I also..."
"You, don't even think about it!" Tang's mother interrupted her unexpectedly.
"I haven't told you what I'm going to do yet." Tang Xin poked the rice in the bowl with chopsticks and said a little aggrievedly.
"I know it without you having to tell me," Tang's mother glanced at Tang Xin, "You just want to quit again, don't you?"
Tang Xin didn't know what to say after her mother hit the nail on the head. She just gave her a look that showed she still had hope.
Tang's mother continued, "You're too naive. Actually, you're just stubborn. You take after your father in that respect." Father and daughter exchanged a sympathetic glance. Tang's father chuckled as usual and continued eating. Tang Xin, like a freshly blown balloon that had the air suddenly deflated, instantly shrivelled.
"The simple environment in school is more suitable for you. If you go to the company, everyone is a jerk. You won't even know how they eat you up."
Actually, it’s not that simple at school, Tang Xin felt emotional.
"Besides," Tang's mother always had good reasons for Tang Xin to do this job, "being a teacher is also an advantage for a girl when she goes on blind dates in the future. Many boys nowadays like girls who are teachers. If you don't want to do it anymore, you have to wait until you get married. Otherwise, mom will ask someone to keep an eye out for boys who are suitable for you. In fact, you are still young..." As soon as Tang's mother mentioned blind dates, she opened up.
"Mom, mom, mom, I promise I will never resign, so you can rest assured." Tang Xin saw that the situation was not good, so she immediately interrupted her mother. If she let her mother continue talking, it would undoubtedly be a disaster for herself. "I'm full, I'm going to wash the dishes." After saying that, she stood up, put away the dishes, and ran to the kitchen, thinking that it would be wiser to find an excuse to slip away.
The mother's voice was left in the living room, "This child, he ran away as soon as I mentioned this."
In this way, Tang Xin's little revolutionary desire was nipped in the bud by the reality that Tang's mother had analyzed in detail.
Lying in bed that night, Tang Xin couldn't sleep, her thoughts racing. If her mother knew she'd submitted her resignation without her knowledge, only to find it didn't work out, wouldn't it cause chaos? Now, she felt a little grateful to the principal. If he'd agreed to her resignation, her mother would have a million excuses to arrange a blind date. It would be better to compromise here than go on a blind date. As she pondered this, she drifted off to sleep.
