Chapter 457: Secret War

While traveling in space, Owen began to practice his powers, using them to restore stars destroyed by the Beyonders at the start of the Secret Wars. Owen stopped an attempted mutiny led by Doctor Octopus, and then stopped Enchantress from sacrificing Martha to complete the teleportation spell, sending her back to the Doujinshi.

As the villains escaped back to Earth, the heroes of the Dou Realm successfully defeated Doctor Doom. The Beyonder reclaimed his stolen powers and then gave them back to himself as well.

Secret Wars 2

Back on Earth, Owen and Martha decide to stop being supervillains and move in together into Martha's apartment in Denver. There, they live in relative obscurity for many months until the Beyonder arrives on Earth, seeking to understand the nature of human desire. The Beyonder is drawn to Owen and appears in his apartment.

Owen advises the Beyonder to go out and seek experience, as this will teach him the meaning of desire, but he advises him to take on a new form, rather than a composite form of the various heroes and villains he has encountered in the Doukai.

The Beyonder took his advice and impersonated Irving himself, rampaging through Los Angeles, fighting Captain America, Iron Man, Magneto, the X-Men, and the New Mutants before fleeing the scene. Soon, the Beyonder was impersonating Captain America and was controlled by the thug Vinnie Cobo. He rose through the ranks and eventually decided to make himself the absolute ruler of the entire Earth, down to the molecular level.

Molecule Man discovered the tampering, and he himself became immune, and he used his powers to prevent Martha from being tampered with. Eventually, the Beyonder saw that ruling the entire Earth was unattainable and released it from his control. The Beyonder decided that the love of another was what he wanted, and he returned to Owen for more advice.

Owen attempted to describe his relationship with Martha to the Beyonder as best he could. Based on this advice, the Beyonder once again attempted to achieve his goals, resulting in the failed advances of the mutant singer known as Dazzler.

After a bout of depression, the Beyonder decides to become a champion of life, even attempting to conquer Death itself. When the various powers of the universe learn of this, they send the Observer to appeal to Owen to do something to stop the Beyonder. At first, Owen refuses to do anything until the Beyonder kills him.

Owen realizes that there is no point in being alive in a world where nothing dies, so he re-takes on the mantle of Molecule Man and confronts the Beyonder to explain this to him. Realizing the mistake he has made, the Beyonder restores Death from oblivion, thereby re-establishing the universal status quo.

When the Beyond later decided to seek solitude on a deserted island, Owen began to fear the worst, worrying that the Beyond might destroy them. When the Beyond grew tired of the universe he was in and attempted to destroy it, Owen attempted to escape into a pocket with Martha, but the Beyond discovered this and appeared before Owen before he could escape.

In order to save her boyfriend's life, Martha pretends to worship the Beyonder and tells him that she finds Owen useless. This sudden abandonment leaves Owen deeply depressed and disgusted with his lack of perseverance, which forces him to live until he destroys the entire universe.

However, Owen soon grows over his dependence on his girlfriend, but is happy to reconcile with her when she returns and explains her ruse. Owen then decides to stop the Beyonder once and for all, who is trying one last chance to understand Desire by transforming himself into a humanoid form.

Owen and Martha then gathered the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, Alpha Flight, the Silver Surfer, the Man-Thing, the Hulk, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. While the heroes distracted the Beyonder, Molecule Man attacked him directly and the two engaged in combat.

The powerful energies used by the two in their battle caused massive damage to the Rocky Mountains, threatening to destroy the Earth. When the Beyonder made one last attempt to become human, he used his immense powers to use a machine that remade him into a human baby.

Unable to stop it, Owen is forced to use his powers to kill the infant Beyonder and send all of his immense energy back to the universe it originated from. However, with the Beyonder's danger seemingly gone, Earth remains in its death throes due to the devastation wrought by the battle.

Molecule Man agreed to assist the Avengers in their attempt to repair the damage. This was no easy task, requiring Molecule Man to combine his powers with the Silver Surfer to repair the damage. Knowing that the heroes would attempt to imprison him out of fear of his powers, Owen pretended that by pushing the limits of his powers, they had drained his strength, leaving Owen in peace for the time being.

Secret Wars 3

Owen and Martha soon moved to New York City, where they returned to anonymity. Everything was shattered when Doctor Doom showed up one day and attacked Molecule Man, attempting to kill him. Doctor Doom then sought out the Fantastic Four to help them enter the Negative Zone and learn the truth behind the Beyonders.

Owen was rushed to a nearby hospital but left shortly after he regained consciousness and used his powers to help himself. After being picked up by Martha, the two decided to find out what Doctor Doom was after and use his powers to follow them. The trail led to the universe into which Owen had previously transferred the energy of the Beyonders, and discovered the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom, as well as powerful cosmic beings known as the Shaper of Worlds and Kubik.

There, Owen and Martha learned that Doctor Doom was trying to recover all of his memories that he lost during Secret War I. World Shaper and Kubik also revealed another startling secret: the dimension beyond the Protoss was responsible for powering the various Cosmic Cubes created in their dimension.

The Shaper and Kubik explain that they are both Cosmic Cubes that have gained sentience, and they go on to tell Owen that the accident that gave him his powers and awakened the Beyonder bypassed the entire process of creating a pure cube, so both Owen and the Beyonder are incomplete components of the Cosmic Cube.

Realizing that in order to be complete they must merge and become one Cosmic Cube, Owen and the Beyonder reconcile, and after saying goodbye to Martha, Owen merges with the Beyonder and the two are transformed into a giant Cosmic Cube that remains in the void of the Beyonder's kingdom to realize its full potential.
