HP: For a better world
Chapter 9 Extra: Golden Selwyn
Selwyn was very proud today. He walked in the corridor leading to the Great Hall, smugly threatening and intimidating several mudbloods passing by along the way, enjoying their disgusted and frightened expressions. He was followed by several lackeys, who also issued rebukes.
They swaggered through the crowd and sat opposite Malfoy, who had dazzling blond hair.
Selwyn smiled at Malfoy almost provocatively: "Oh my, isn't this our Master Malfoy?" Selwyn leaned over: "Why? I heard that you were scared and ran away last night when you were in detention?" He moved closer, face to face with Malfoy: "I heard that you were scared and screamed all the way back to the common room... Tsk tsk tsk tsk 'I'm going to tell my dad~'."
--coward.
Selwyn and his lackeys laughed out loud.
Malfoy's pale face turned red, and he slammed the table and shouted, "That's the Forbidden Forest! Don't tell me you're not afraid of that, Selwyn!"
"Unless your fallen family has lost even a trace of the Forbidden Forest records! Oh - I forgot your father is still in Azkaban and hasn't passed on those secrets to you yet, right?" Malfoy retorted sarcastically.
Selwyn showed an angry expression, but he turned it into an arrogant pity: "Anyway, Malfoy, you are just your father's little baby, you don't know yet -" He smiled maliciously: "I can tell you this news without any grudges, 'Golden' Malfoy - you don't know yet? Weasley is encouraging the Minister of Magic to allow him to search for dark magic items."
"What? Where did you get the news? He doesn't have the--" power.
"Wait," Malfoy came to his senses. The Selwyn family, which had fallen into decline after his father was imprisoned, was not so well-informed. "Marcus Flint told you." Malfoy suddenly realized, "--You succeeded?"
Marcus is one of the seniors in Slytherin who hates half-bloods the most. He is also the new Slytherin prefect and the captain of the Quidditch team. He is very influential in Slytherin. Malfoy knows that they have been secretly looking for someone to take revenge on White.
Selwyn was meant to be an extension of their power in the lower grades… the more he pleased Marcus, the more support he would get.
He glanced at the Slytherin seats at the other end, where a few young wizards were sitting there with worried looks on their faces, whispering to an empty seat.
"Yes - it seems that you didn't notice that someone was missing from class today - I caught him last night and gave him a good beating. He is probably crying and complaining in the hospital wing or in the arms of our biased dean - who let him run away alone."
Selwyn finally revealed the news that made him happy all day. When something succeeds, you have to show it off to feel a sense of accomplishment, especially when the person is Malfoy, who has a high status in the pure-blood family. Letting little Malfoy watch someone who is better than him and has more power in school... This greatly satisfied Selwyn's vanity.
The dinner started. Malfoy found someone to change seats temporarily, because he didn't want to eat with Selwyn looking so proud.
It was really disgusting. Malfoy held his cheek and poked at the pudding on the plate. He absentmindedly cut the pudding into several even pieces, revealing the meat filling inside.
Crabbe had already finished his share of pudding and was drooling over the remaining, battered mess in Malfoy's hands. Goyle was tearing the chicken drumstick in his hand heartlessly.
"Draco," Crabbe asked drooling, "Can you give me your pudding if you don't want it?"
Draco showed a disgusted and speechless expression: "You still want to eat it even after I poked you like this?!"
Crabbe nodded vigorously.
"Eat, eat, eat, you two idiots!" Draco pushed the plate heavily to Crabbe and stepped back. "Here, I'll go for a walk. Go back to the lounge and wait for me." Draco told them both irritably, got up and left the table to walk in another direction. Selwyn was happily occupying a whole piece of pudding with his damn golden spoon - you'll be stuffed to death sooner or later, Draco cursed and hurried upstairs. Just as he reached the stairs, a little wizard with black hair and blue eyes came up - it was White.
Draco paused: "Hey, that half-blood." He called out to White. White raised his head and looked at Draco coldly: "...If you don't know how to speak, don't speak." Draco was choked by him and couldn't speak for a long time, "It's okay, I'm leaving." White spoke, and Draco was frozen by his cold eyes. While thinking angrily that this guy still looked unwelcome, he stammered: "...I...heard...you...in the hospital wing...are you okay?"
Draco waited for a long time but didn't hear any reply. He was so angry that he wanted to run away.
White suddenly said in a strange cadence: "...I feel great."
“…There’s no better time than now.”
"You, you, you, speak normally!" Draco got goosebumps at the tone of voice, and he almost suspected that White was controlled by something - could it be that Selwyn used dark magic to torture him?
White looked at him quietly before returning to his usual cold tone: "I just made a decision... Draco, if I were you, I would go back to the lounge now. You don't want to miss it." He suddenly smiled brightly, and the ice in his eyes thawed, like ripples on a black lake in spring.
Draco looked at White stupidly as he regained his aura of keeping strangers away and walked towards the dinner which was ending.
- What did he call me just now? Draco? He smiled like a romantic pure-blood.
——No wonder he always has a lukewarm expression but can still recruit so many mixed-race subordinates.
Draco hesitated: Didn't White just tell me to go back to the lounge? But why should I listen to him?
Draco thought as he involuntarily turned the way back to the Slytherin common room.
Goyle and Crabbe were waiting for him inside, playing wizard chess. Next to them were a few pieces of pie they had brought especially for him. They had obviously noticed that Draco had not eaten anything for dinner.
Draco sat over there. There were not many people in the common room. Draco saw Avery was already doing his homework there - he seemed to be in a good mood.
Why is White unwilling to seek refuge from the Malfoy family? If he is willing to come, they will protect him because of White's excellent potion future. Isn't this much more reliable than those half-bloods with mixed qualities? How can White protect himself when his own spell level is worse than Longbottom's?
Draco was thinking about something while watching Goyle and Crabbe playing wizard chess with disdain.
At this moment, the door of the lounge opened and a large group of people rushed in.
Draco saw Selwyn holding his stomach and bruising his face as he frantically squeezed out of the crowd. But the door couldn't be enlarged at the last minute, so he could only scream and shout for someone to make way while trying to rush in.
Draco looked at Selwyn's actions in confusion. What was he doing?
Selwyn managed to rush in, and the crowd followed him in and scattered throughout the common room... but Selwyn, who was in a hurry at first, suddenly began to slow down, smoothing out the wrinkles in front of him, trying his best to appear elegant and unhurried.
But his complexion gave him away - his face looked as if he had eaten flour from somewhere, and it had a weak, pale color.
"Selwyn?"
Draco could have sworn he saw Selwyn's expression turn horrified when he heard Marcus' voice, as if he hadn't expected him to be here at all.
Selwyn pretended not to hear and quietly quickened his pace.
But Marcus was obviously here specifically to wait for him.
"Where are you going?" Marcus Flint sat in front of the fireplace, looking at the strange Selwyn, his eyes narrowed. He didn't like being offended.
Selwyn...looked at Marcus, his eyes reluctant to move away from the direction of the dormitory, but frightened by Marcus' increasingly ominous expression, he had to take a few steps towards Avery.
Draco noticed with his sharp eyes that someone among the group of people standing next to Selwyn quietly stepped forward.
—Selwyn didn’t notice.
He was so focused on escaping to the nearest bathroom that his foot hooked back insidiously—Selwyn fell toward Marcus with his eyes wide open in horror—
At that moment, there seemed to be a hint of despair in Selwyn's expression.
"boom!"
"puff--"
After a brief silence, all the Slytherins in the common room heard a roar.
"——Selwin!!!!"
Marcus was furious. Selwyn's reputation plummeted - although he didn't have a good reputation to begin with - he couldn't control himself and burst into tears in the Slytherin common room, and the yellow liquid even soaked the carpet. Rumor has it that Flint was so angry because he stepped on it. No one wants to get close to Selwyn now, and even his lackeys who used to follow him would pinch their noses and retreat three feet away when they meet him... Malfoy has once again become the leader among the lower grade purebloods.
"… When White goes crazy, it's so scary." Draco murmured. No one knew yet who Selwyn had offended, but such a tragic end made all the pure-bloods who knew how to be reverent stay away from the small team formed by White.
"The more he looks calm and self-sustaining, the crazier he is inside...Draco, if you are not sure of winning, don't mess with your classmate." Draco's father Lucius Malfoy wrote in a letter to his son: "Whether he is a half-blood or a punk, he will definitely have a place in the future with such a one-hit kill method... Not to mention that his talent for potions has gradually emerged. Severus Snape, your dean and a loyal friend of the Malfoy family, also told me privately that Mr. White did not even use any magical means, but only controlled the time of the attack by choosing the properties of the medicine.
...Draco, you have to know that although I always tell you about the greatness of pure blood, you must first understand that the Malfoy family has survived to this day because each head of the family has a flexible enough attitude and a philosophy of self-preservation - I hope to hear news of your goodwill towards him later. "
[Also: I will observe your classmate's follow-up]
