Chapter 8 The Death Controversy and the Slytherin Dispute
After getting off the train, Winston, Harry and the others boarded the Thestral carriage. The carriage had to drive a long circle around Hogsmeade and arrive at the main entrance of Hogwarts, while the first-year students had to take a boat with Hagrid across the Black Lake before entering the school. It was still raining today, which was unbearable for the freshmen.
Winster drove in a carriage all the way to two magnificent wrought iron gates, with stone pillars on both sides and winged wild boars on top. The gates opened as the carriage approached, and Hogwarts was brightly lit.
Winster got off the carriage and still felt a little dizzy. He couldn't help rubbing his head.
"Are you still feeling a little uncomfortable, Winster?" Harry got out of the car behind Winster, walked up to him and asked him.
"Oh, I'm afraid so. The carriage is a bit too shaking and I feel a little nauseous." Winster said, holding his head.
The Thestral beside him snorted unhappily, and angrily blew a gust of cold wind mixed with rain at him with its wings, chilling him to the bone.
"Oh, sorry man, I didn't mean your skills were bad - really not." Ye Qi swung his tail and drove away with the carriage, giving him another snort before leaving.
Harry looked at the carriage that left automatically in surprise: "Who are you talking to, those 'invisible horses'?"
"'Invisible horses'? They are the Thestrals, a kind of magical animal." Winster explained, "Only those who have seen death can see them. Thestrals' tail feathers are also a good material for the core of a wand."
Harry thought of Professor Quirrell who had turned to ash. "Why can't I see it?"
Hermione came over and took over Harry's words, "The original words are, seeing death and understanding them." She looked at Winston with some reproach: "Weren't you serious when you were reading?"
"What? No, I don't think seeing death and understanding it is a good enough explanation."
"?"
"For example, if you see someone disappear in front of you with a bang, and then there is no trace - just like Apparating, but you can never see her again - would you think that person is dead?" Winster gestured. Hermione recalled the book she had read, "Are you talking about the Vanishing Spell? Winster, the Vanishing Spell cannot allow a wizard to make another wizard disappear. It is highly dangerous and not allowed." She said seriously.
"I'm just giving an analogy, Hermione." Winster said helplessly, "Let me put it another way. You have a good friend. Everyone has forgotten her, and only you remember her name. But you see that all traces of her are being erased. Until finally, everything that proves she existed disappears. Do you think this person is dead?"
Hermione hesitated for a moment: "But maybe she is still alive somewhere else?"
"But her own parents, her own friends, her own lover... everyone has forgotten her existence. Even if this person goes back, no one is willing to believe... because she does not exist in people's hearts." Winster asked back, "Isn't this also considered death?"
Hermione frowned. "You are being sophistry. What you are saying is completely different from what we are discussing. You are talking about death in the social sense, while we are clearly talking about physical extinction."
"Yes," Winster admitted, "but the death of a wizard does not mean the extinction of the body. For wizards, they can become ghosts after death. But the book says 'understanding death'." Winster walked with his head pressed down and said, "Ghosts can be said to be dead or alive - they are in between. But understanding how ghosts exist does not mean understanding death. Everyone has a different view on death, but they can unify on the process of seeing the Thestrals... In my opinion, the Thestrals are more like you can see someone who has died, just like me, I can see their dark dragon-headed horse bodies, but I have never seen anyone die in the 'physical' body with my own eyes."
"Oh no wait, Winston you-oh...oh...Snape, Professor Snape, good evening."
("We'll discuss this another time!" whispered Hermione)
"I'm glad you finally saw your professor, Miss... Granger." Snape's low voice came from above Winster's head. Winster turned his head stiffly, and Snape's face appeared in front of Winster.
"Oh, and our Mr. White who has just recovered from a serious illness," Winster felt the professor glare at him fiercely.
Winster looked at him flatteringly from where he stood, his eyes unable to help but glance around... Could it be that the professor knew that he and Selwyn had a duel on the train?
"And Pott and Weasley." Snape looked down at Winston, Harry and the others. "Professor McGonagall wants you to go to her office after dinner."
"What? Did we do something wrong?"
"Maybe there's evidence of some disobedient little wizard being caught doing something bad and he's going to be expelled from school." He showed a sarcastic expression, and was satisfied to see that Harry, Hermione and Ron couldn't help showing frightened and guilty expressions - he glared at White who also seemed calm, as if nothing had anything to do with him.
Snape used his eyes to warn Winston not to be caught by him, then he threw his robe and walked back to the hall angrily, not wanting to stay outside for even a second.
It seems that he doesn't want to meet a new professor. Winster thought to himself with a calm expression, Lupin's carriage was behind.
Winster walked in front towards the castle, while Harry and the others followed behind, whispering.
Ron: "Could it be that the African tree snake skin we stole last year was seized?" (Winster's mouth twitched. Snape had never let him touch such high-quality materials)
Hermione: "No, it's been so long... Snape didn't cast a recording spell at the time... If he was going to be discovered, he would have been discovered long ago."
Harry: "No - I think it's because I blew up my aunt's business. The Ministry of Magic has dealt with it but the school hasn't. I'm going to be expelled -"
Winster listened speechlessly as the three people behind him openly listed their misdeeds. He was almost certain that this was the bad taste of his own dean. He didn't explain clearly why he was called to the office and watched these three lions fantasizing and exposing themselves crazily here.
Winster pretended that he had heard nothing, said goodbye to Harry and the others, walked to the Slytherin table, and prepared to sit down at a random seat.
(Malfoy turns his head away awkwardly)
"…White…this way."
A Slytherin at a distance from Malfoy and the others waved at him in a low voice, signaling him to come here. Winster looked over and found that a small group of people were looking at him quietly - they were the Slytherins who had only dared to glance at him secretly when Selwyn jumped out to provoke them before.
Winster walked over.
There seemed to be an empty seat in the middle reserved for him.
Winster sat down obediently.
The others seemed to be relieved. The boy with black curly hair who waved at him couldn't help but say, "That's great, White. You're still willing to accept us."
"Why do you say that?" Winster raised his eyebrows calmly. Is this the hybrid group of people that Selwyn mentioned who relied on the operation network? Why does the original owner's status now sound more like a leader?
The black curly-haired boy and the brown curly-haired girl looked at each other in bewilderment. "Because you suddenly ignored us completely when you were in second grade," the boy said carefully. "You kept to yourself and were elusive. We couldn't find you even if we wanted to, so we had to wait for you at the door of your dormitory... but you were often not there."
The black curly-haired boy said, "We are worried about you... Those purebloods said that you were given detention by that liar Lockhart, and it lasts until very late every time. But we are worried..."
"I'm worried that you're being targeted by the heir." A girl sitting at the edge said softly, she huddled in her robes, looking thin and small. "You can't use spells, and the rumor that you're a Squib is too widespread, which is very dangerous."
"But you yelled at us not to follow you—"
"Thank goodness you're okay in the end, Winster." She had tears in her eyes. "You don't know how worried we were during those days. You helped us, and we wanted to help you, too."
Malfoy was secretly observing this side, Goyle and Crabbe were much more stupid, they stared straight at it and didn't even notice that the forks they put to their mouths were empty.
Winster looked over there obscurely. If most of the people on Malfoy's side were pure-bloods, then this side was a small group of mixed-bloods... Slytherin seemed to be divided into two parts. The pure-bloods and mixed-bloods seemed to be sitting in a clear distinction.
Winster recalls the memories brought by the Dementors.
"You may not know yet... I have lost my memory." Winster said, "Is there anyone willing to explain to me what is going on."
The boy with black curly hair glanced at the girl who was curled up in her robe. The girl pursed her lips and said, "I only heard from my mother that Winster has recovered from his injury and has been discharged from the hospital. She works on the third floor of St. Mungo's Hospital."
The implication is that the girl doesn't know about Winster's amnesia.
The third floor of St. Mungo's Hospital is the Department of Strange Bacteria Infections.
"Let me think about how to explain. My name is Luo, Luo Cliff..." The black-curled boy pointed at the soft-voiced girl and said, "She's Jenny, Jenny Koch, and Carl, Mike, and Colen." Luo introduced them one by one. After Luo introduced them all, he said, "The five of us are the people you have helped before..."
It turns out that even though Voldemort himself was defeated by the Savior, contempt for half-blood and squib-born wizards still exists within Slytherin.
"…some of them think that we have polluted Slytherin. Some of them brought senior students to attack us…" Jenny's voice trembled, as if she was recalling the days when she was bullied.
Luo Ou patted her comfortingly: "It's okay, Jenny, Winster is here, those are all first-year things."
Winster asked, "What did 'I' do?"
"You saw what they did, rushed over, and poured swelling potion on those guys," Jenny laughed softly. "I don't know what you added in it, but those guys swelled up all over and kept giggling. None of the spells they knew could target the potion you modified, and the swelling-reducing potion they hurriedly ran to the hospital wing to get made their swelling even brighter. After hearing about the whole thing, Professor Snape declared that he would never give the antidote to these fools who 'bullied the younger students and ended up like this'. They could only lie in the hospital wing for several days waiting for the effect of the potion to wear off."
"That year, their nickname was 'Purple Rooster'," Luo Ren said with a smile. Everyone in the circle couldn't help but laugh in relief. "But after you helped us to avenge, the news that you couldn't cast spells spread to the ears of the seniors... They thought you were a mistake in the Book of Admission, a 'Squib'. But they didn't dare to anger Professor Snape again, so they instructed a junior pureblood..."
Winster couldn't help but ask, "Are you talking about Selwin?"
Luo Ou nodded and said, "That's him. He has been frantically trying to please those seniors whose families are powerful. Not long after the beginning of the first year, he became a student in our grade with a status only slightly lower than Malfoy. Many half-bloods have been bullied by him."
"We were worried that something might happen to you, so we suggested that we act together... but he still seized the opportunity..."
Jenny continued, "...you were sent to the hospital wing for a few days. Professor Snape didn't allow us to visit you. Fortunately, you appeared in front of us as usual after a few days."
"Not long after that, Selwyn suddenly became emotional in the lounge—"
Winster raised his eyebrows and asked strangely: "Can't you control your feelings?"
