HP: White Lord of Slytherin

Chapter 87 Two New Professors

Passing the magnificent marble staircase, Gloria saw the familiar auditorium, with nearly a thousand burning candles and the gloomy sky on the ceiling, all of which made people miss it.

Entering the auditorium, the warmth dispelled the coldness from our bodies. As we walked along, we found that the school had undergone obvious changes. It seemed that the construction team had worked very hard during the summer vacation.

Every student at the Slytherin table nodded when they saw Gloria. Draco looked around and didn't see Harry and Hermione, so he took her to sit on the side near the Gryffindor table, just behind Ron.

This year's freshman sorting ceremony was conducted by Professor Sprout, and Professor McGonagall was nowhere to be seen.

Gloria noticed that there was a new face sitting at the professor's table. He should be the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts this year. He was wearing a wizard robe that had been torn and patched many times. He looked young but his light brown hair was a little gray. It was obvious that he had suffered a lot.

Professor Snape, who was two seats away from her, had a terribly dark face, with suppressed anger and hatred in his eyes. Gloria only occasionally saw such a look in his eyes when he was targeting Harry.

Do these two know each other?

Many classmates around were discussing the train.

"Did you hear that? It wasn't an illusion, was it?" said a Gryffindor girl behind me.

"No, we heard it too. Not long after the voice shouted, I felt that the car was not so cold anymore. Was it a spell to expel Dementors? It sounded weird." The others replied.

Draco tried to hold back and focus on Gloria, but unfortunately he couldn't tell the truth.

The sorting ceremony began. One by one, new faces sat on the high chairs with nervous expressions and listened to the Sorting Hat announce their sorting results.

After the sorting ceremony, Harry and Hermione tiptoed back. Ron quickly called them over. The Gryffindor students looked at them frequently, pointing at Harry and whispering.

Headmaster Dumbledore stood up and spoke, welcoming everyone back to Hogwarts as he did in previous years. "We currently have several Dementors from Azkaban at our school, and they will be guarding every entrance and exit of the school..."

The headmaster talked about the characteristics of Dementors and reminded the students not to conflict with them. He also asked the prefects and the student president to ensure this, without mentioning the strange and awkward shouting of the train.

The students on the train had all seen how terrifying Dementors were. Even the most mischievous Weasley twins didn't laugh or care.

"Of course. If something bad does happen, please inform the professor in time. I will negotiate with the Ministry of Magic." Dumbledore turned around and introduced the light brown-haired man. "Next, let's meet our new teacher, Professor Lupin, who teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts."

There was sparse applause in the auditorium. Gloria spotted Professor Snape and clapped twice perfunctorily before putting her hands down.

Dumbledore was still clapping, looking quite happy. "Welcome, welcome. Good luck, Professor."

Gloria lowered her head and chuckled. Was she serious about wishing him good luck at this time?

Then the headmaster continued, "We also have a new teacher this year. The previous Care of Magical Creatures teacher, Professor Kettleburn, is old and has decided to retire and enjoy life. Rubeus Hagrid is willing to take on the duties of gamekeeper while accepting this new teaching position."

"Hagrid—!" Ron shouted excitedly.

Harry clapped his hands as if he was going to break, and Hermione cheered along with the rest of the class.

"Let him teach us? A big, stupid guy guarding the forest!" Draco was extremely dissatisfied.

"Don't worry, Hagrid knows a lot about the creatures in the Forbidden Forest." Gloria clapped her hands softly, "I'm looking forward to what his first lesson will be about."

With her starting the applause, the other Slytherin students followed suit, so there wasn't a dull moment.

The welcome ended and Headmaster Dumbledore officially opened the banquet.

The golden plate was immediately filled with food. The sound of knives and forks clinking could be heard. Gloria saw the wild mushroom cream risotto and scooped a spoonful onto the plate.

"Potter--" Draco whispered to Harry.

Harry, who was enjoying delicious food with his friends, turned around blankly and found that it was Draco who felt something was wrong.

"I heard your girlfriend shout that you fainted on the train. Is that true?" Draco asked with a sarcastic smile on his face. Crabbe and Goyle beside him chuckled and pretended to faint.

"Shut up, Malfoy!" Ron couldn't stand their expressions.

Draco raised an eyebrow, admiring their annoyed looks, "You fainted just by seeing the Dementors. You are worthy of being the famous Potter."

Harry's good mood because of Hagrid's appointment as professor was instantly ruined. He turned around angrily and ignored the voice behind him, without even thinking about who Draco was referring to as the girlfriend.

Gloria went back to rest after the opening party. When she woke up the next morning, she found it was still raining outside.

The first day of school has two elective courses in the morning and afternoon respectively.

When he tidied up his school robe and went out, Draco was already sitting on the sofa waiting for him, along with Zabini and others.

The looks in these people's eyes changed, no longer inquiring or scrutinizing.

"Lori, let's go." Draco extended his hand to her, Gloria took it, and nodded to Zabini and the others.

On the way, Draco said that he wanted to publicize the news of Harry's fainting. Daphne and Pansy didn't dare to talk to Gloria, so they could only follow behind and listen.

When they arrived at the auditorium, since the professor was not present, they laughed even more unscrupulously.

"How long are you going to make fun of me?" Gloria said helplessly. She was tired of hearing the same thing over and over again.

Draco said with a wicked smile: "I won't let go of a whole school year--"

She smiled and shook her head.

Just as Harry and the others arrived at the Great Hall, Draco saw them immediately, "Here comes the Potter who fainted when he saw the Dementors!"

Several people chose to stay away from the Slytherin table and ignore whatever they said.

The first class in the morning was ancient runes. As soon as Gloria sat down, she took out books such as "A Simple Introduction to Ancient Runes", "Dictionary of Runes", "Magic Consonant Table", etc. Some of them were her family's collection.

Professor Bathsheda Babbling was a woman with long black hair and a wrinkled pointed wizard hat. The brim of the hat was too long to cover her eyes, so only her mouth could be seen moving.

She spoke a little quickly. "Ancient runes are mysterious words with rich symbolic meanings. A long time ago, wizards used this kind of words for magic. Only by learning it can we better understand the magic and ancient books of the past."

Gloria opened the book "Easy to Start" and found a page that showed the symbolic meanings of animals divided into 0 to 9 based on their abilities and characteristics.

In the manor's library, she had studied with a painter who was good at this, so she did not find it difficult to understand what the professor said.

Crabbe and Goyle, who had chosen this course just because of them, were already drowsy. The hypnotic effect of this class was similar to that of History of Magic.

Fortunately, Harry did not choose this course. Draco was very quiet in class, flipping through books and discussing with Gloria from time to time. Although this course was difficult, it was quite interesting.

While he was concentrating on memorizing the meaning of a rune, Gloria raised her head to relieve the pressure on her neck. She saw a familiar figure in the corner of her eye and when she tilted her head, it was really Hermione.

It was strange, because when I came in for class, the seat was clearly empty.

Feeling her gaze, Hermione also looked over and mouthed: I also chose this elective course.

Gloria lowered her eyes suspiciously and wrote a note: I didn’t see you before class, how did you get in?

While Professor Babel was writing on the blackboard, she floated over to Hermione's desk.

After a long while, Hermione passed the paper back, and it said: I used a time turner. I have too many elective courses, and some of them have the same class time. I have to do this to avoid missing them. Please keep it a secret for me.

Gloria remembered that there was a time converter in the manor, but it had been sealed for a long time. The portraits always said that the thing could at most allow people to see more different scenery at the same time point. If too much time flows back, it is easy to get lost in the past.

Gloria wrote back: When using this thing, it is best to adjust the time forward and take a break, otherwise the constant rush will make you irritable.
